benjii Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 What a great prospect. Confidence, touch, speed, strength, maturity, delivery. Much more ability with a football than Antonio or Papa, probably Theo too. If he keeps developing we've got a hell of a player.

JustMike Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 yep, very impressed with him, especially with his age, 16 still i think! Need who ever comes in as manager to look after him and tell Arsenal to fook off when they come knocking

Chez Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 What a talent we have on our hands. Not quite as pacey as Theo but a better touch and much more of an idea what he wants to do with the ball. He looks full of confidence too. Lets hope we can get into winning ways soon so none of that is lost. Our youth system seems to have done its job perfectly.

CaptainWill Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 He was fast and took players on, but he often lost the ball after trying to do too much with it - reminded me of Fabrice Fernandes. For 16 years old though, he's looking fantastic, and there was one chipped pass he made through to Butterfield that would have been masterly had they been on the same wavelength. Pokerchampion Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 No disrespect , better than Papa , no , Papa was a class act for this league , and he could finish for fun and could find a killer pass . Chamberlayne is a long way off that , he is very pacy , but his distribution is still a bit wayward , and thats his first really good game v a very average league 1 side . Raw talent indeed , better than Antonio hmmmm again he has better ball control for sure , Antonio was an out and out speed merchant again that could finish , i have them two down as 50/50 but Papa is alot better at this present time . He has taken back to Italy what he learnt here and is now playing in Serie A would Chamberlayne be playing in that league , not yet maybe in a years time if he progress's. Not slagging the lad , but he is certainly not better than Papa as an all round player

RonManager Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 Connolly was woeful! He was having to take the ball time and time again off the ground and with his back to goal, so was immediately closed down (Lambert too for that matter). Give him a ball he can run on to and attack and you'll see the DC of last season.
benjii Posted 5 September, 2010 Author Share Posted 5 September, 2010 Connolly played pretty well IMO. When he plays we play nicer football as he demands it to feet. Unfortunately he looked a bit rusty in front of goal. Yesterday was so frustrating; so many "nearlys" - we actually played fine.
benjii Posted 24 October, 2010 Author Share Posted 24 October, 2010 Well, I am clearly a good judge of a player. AC is class. I hope he stays under the radar of bigger clubs (we should continue to use him from the bench for now anyway).

saintsub Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 What sort of contract is he on? in terms of years remaining He is 17 (not 16 as someone said above) and has just signed a 3 year contract. I see there are a few doubters above - he is the REAL DEAL....call up for england U18 next mayue? But he has something extra special about him ...yes mabye a bit raw but jesus he is 17 - the big boys must already know of his talent and must already be sniffing around. Well done AOC great match yesterday......
saintscottofthenortham Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 Who the f**k needs Antonio!? He was awesome yesterday. Scared the pants off the aildham defense and so nearly had two goals. Has everything you could ask for in a 17 year old and he can only get better. ericb Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 he does look superb but i really don't think we should rush him in, let him come on from the bench at the end of games when defences are tired. That way he get time to learn the game, as well as get confidence, then slowly bring him into the side. Damn shame his second half run wasn't ended with a goal yesterday though, since that would've been one of the best solo goals scored this season without a shadow of a doubt. Spot on ....I am pretty sure from the post match interview and the fact he uses him as an 'impact player' NA knows he must not over play AOC. he will, I am sure start a few games but not a regular starter. Nice to see the academy has done a great job on him and he does not look 'over coached' and has a good football brain. He will get better....god we will need to get promoted or lose young talent like this.
Smirking_Saint Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 Agree with the two above posts, he is a great great prospect that could either be over played or could gain a big injury and put his future in doubt. I really hope niether of those happen. He is however a fantastic impact sub and in all honesty could be utilised in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Punch, Ox and lallana playing if we could, i think we would look very good in that situation. All in all though, one of the best young players i have been privaliged to witness.

Dead right, such a shame the 2nd didn't go in. I think NA will use him wisely. He looked to me, as if he has bulked up a bit, not a bad thing. Well played young Oxy. SFKA South Woodford Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 He was absolutely brilliant yesterday, if he keeps on like that he'll be in the top 5% of talent in any league in the country including the premier league! He has pace and his close control while dribbling is better than Theo's is now, let alone at the same age, in my opinion he is more exciting a prospect than Theo. He's showed that he isn't just good on the wing but can also play through the middle on the counter attack and will scare the c*ap out of anyone who tries to stand in his way. I just hope we can hang on to him for a while, but he has already hinted that he woud like to play for Chelsea one day as they were the team he supported as a boy, and if keeps getting better at the rate he is, an under 21 cap will soon be coming his way regularly, attracting more admiring glances. Still if he does leave, it will only be for a seriously large amount of money.
Saint Mikey Posted 25 October, 2010 Share Posted 25 October, 2010 Lit up a dour game yesterday. Hope we get to see him play for at least a few seasons established in the 1st team, does look like an excellent prospect. Let him learn by watching, so he can identify the weaknesses of those who will mark him when he comes on. My only fear is that very soon he will acquire an agent, and we know how they spin things and work the oracle for their 10%.
iansums Posted 25 October, 2010 Share Posted 25 October, 2010 Composure... ... that's the word. He showed it with his goal, it was brilliantly taken. It's a shame some of our other players cannot show it in and around the box especially Morgan, his shots on goal were pathetic.

Sorry, I know we have to be partisan here as Theo "deserted" us etc etc, but to compare the OXO kid with Theo is as ridiculas as those that compare Barnard with Lampard! Let's put things into perspective, Theo was wanted by Real Madrid, Barca, Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal, his Dad chose Arsenal due to Wengers assurances he wouldn't be rushed. He was, by a distance, the biggest prospect in Europe for his age group (he broke Rooney's records for youngest cap/ goalscorer at England U16, U17, U19 and U21. I remember going to see him play for our all conquering Youth Team at Upton Park in the 1/4 finals when he was 15. The lad was a mile ahead of everyone else on the pitch and there were scouts from all over the world watching him. Who also forgets the buzz every time he got the ball in the 1st season we were relegated. In my mind he was the only bright point of going to games at the time, the lad was clearly something special and I was proud we made him what he was. Since then he's left and scored a hat-trick in Englan'd best performance of the last 9 years, run rings around the Barcelona side that are the best in Europe, scored in cup finals and has matured into a key player in the Premier League's best footballing team. For that we should eb proud of the part our youth set up played, if Oxo can achieve 1/2 of that I will be proud but come on - a little perspective eh? I wonder what standard even Rangers and Celtic are compared to English leagues. Perhaps I am being arrogant but I would rate the old firm rivals as middle CCC at best. Do you think Barca, Real Madrid and Man U would still be willing to pay top dollar for him now? And a "key player" for Arsenal? Really?
