alpine_saint Posted 13 September, 2010 Share Posted 13 September, 2010 Team morale, connecting with the players, building team spirit. He has a decent set of players to work with (not quite enough for promotion, but first things first)
georgeweahscousin Posted 13 September, 2010 Share Posted 13 September, 2010 Wingers. Pardew's failure to replace Antonio, Lallana being injured and Puncheon being crap have culminated in us looking very poor in this department. O'Chamberlain is doing ok, but he is just a kid. opthomps Posted 13 September, 2010 Share Posted 13 September, 2010 Correct. Get the players to play with a little freedom, let them enjoy their football. Lets go on the attack and try to score a few goals in the process. Hopefully Adkins will have a coaching team with him that the players respond to well. His qualification in pschology might be a blessing too.

If he has anyone he might be able to bring in on loan to add a bit of pace/width, great, but I still feel we have the best squad in the division. Just need to get reorganised and back to that form we saw at Bristol Rovers.
West End Saint Posted 13 September, 2010 Share Posted 13 September, 2010 He needs to give them a kick up the @rse the last 3 games we have been going through motions tippy tappy play no desire no tempo to our play massive lack of confidence belief & conviction. The good thing is the players are good enough so he has something to work with I hope he is a good motivator and can get the confidence and spark back in our team. Cabrone Posted 13 September, 2010 Share Posted 13 September, 2010 Confidence. The only difference between the team that spanked Rovers 4-0 away and lost 2-0 to Rochdale at home is confidence. We have the players - we just need to get the performances out of them.

sadoldgit Posted 13 September, 2010 Share Posted 13 September, 2010 First priority ??? Change the strip back to a SAINTS Kit RED AND WHITE STRIPES I agree that it would be good if we looked like the Saints again, but it ain't gonna happen this season! His first hurdle is the same as Pardew's: to deal with the negativty and lossing mentality. There are some teams out there who never lie down and don't know their beaten. We are not one of those. We desparately need some loans, but if he can get the Lamberts and Puncheons playing as they can, that will be a start. He will also need to win over the fans and if he doesn't do that quickly and get points on the board he will find it a very long and hard season. I don't know anything about the guy but he comes with a ringing endoresment from Redknapp (not sure if that is good or bad!) but let's hope he does the biz. Pardew asked for 18 months to be judged and I think it is fair to give Adkins the same period. Unfortunately if we don't go up this year he might not make 18 months either. Give the team direction, expectation and freedom. Improve fitness. Get a win at MK Dons. Spot on. Width and pace is such a dangerous weapon as proved last year with Papa and Antonio. Didn't Duncan mention that Papa was still being lined up for a return ? He's been right on most things so far so hope is is right this time. The other thing Adkins needs to do and excuse the cliche, but he needs to hit the ground running or as now is the case sprinting. Another slow getting to know you routine will end any chance of auto-matic promotion.

Topcat Posted 13 September, 2010 Share Posted 13 September, 2010 What does Adkins need to address first? He has to start winning. From tomorrow he will need a win ratio of 60%. Explain to Puncheon, in simple terms, what the white posts are for at the ends of the pitch, (and I dont mean the corner posts) The two in the middle are there to hold the crossbar up and if the ball passes between those posts and under the 'bar then its called a 'goal', If it passes over the 'bar its called 'Row Z'
