Saint Lindford Posted 21 December, 2010 Share Posted 21 December, 2010 If we can get £1.5 - £2m for him as he has over 2 years left on his contract then all well and good. Means there is more to spend on a replacement who wants to play for the club.

There when Franny scored Posted 21 December, 2010 Share Posted 21 December, 2010 Completely thoughtless to have him out on loan at the moment. Firstly, I think AOC is off form at the moment. Given his age, he is better used sporadically and playing him for 90 minutes during a busy fixture period will do him no good. We have just lost Holmes for the season. Puncheon is contracted to play for us and is desperately needed at present. I would never want to play for supporters who booed me but If Adkins can talk him round then bring him back

Turkish Posted 21 December, 2010 Share Posted 21 December, 2010 this thread is mental. A player we signed for £250k, apart from the first few games has been critised and slagged off every week and is supposedly s*** and not as good as Antonio who cant get in at Reading yet now we think he is worth at least double what we payed for him and in some cases up to £2m, 8 times what we payed for him! There is no reason why we cannot negotiate a decent fee for him. We do not need to sell, he has over 2 years left on his contract. IF a PL team wants him then pay a market rate. Other players have gone to PL clubs from NPC teams for £3m+, why should we roll over and let him go for relative peanuts.

Turkish Posted 21 December, 2010 Share Posted 21 December, 2010 There's nothing real or sensible about football. Would an average league 1 player going to a million surprise you? I'm sure he'll go for less, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if some idiot overpaid. We paid 1.1m for Wayne Thomas, burnley valued him around 150k. Which is more stupid? We obviously added a 0 onto the end of our bid by mistake.

Okay 3 games on loan at championship level and 6 games over 2 year at Plymouth doesn't make him a championship player anymore than Carlton Palmer, Geoff Thomas and Keith Curle playing for England made them world class players. Until he has proven himself over a couple of seasons then and only then can you say he is a championship quality player. Come on admit it, you know that your £1.5m-£2m for Puncheon was a stupid thing to say, just admit it, there is no shame in being wrong. And just so you know i like Puncheon, i rate him and think he is just a victim of the whipping boy culture we have here. Check any of my posts on him and they are always positive so am not saying this as one of the 90% of imbiciles who dont have a clue, but worth £2m? You're mental. sotonjoe Posted 21 December, 2010 Share Posted 21 December, 2010 You watch; Puncheon will be another player deemed 'not good enough' for Saints who goes on to put in perfectly acceptable performances for a club above us in the league structure. As others have said, it's ridiculous that the Saints management cannot get Puncheon back here to put in a couple of professional performances until a replacement can be found. We're short of players due to injuries and sending Puncheon out on loan.
Window Cleaner Posted 21 December, 2010 Share Posted 21 December, 2010 I wondered if that was true at the time. I know a burnley fan who thought it was a joke and we'd actually paid 110k, which he still thought was a bit much. but they turned down 200K from Coventry for him, so we paid them 1.2 million. Burley probably threw a wobbly and rolled on the floor until he got his way.Perhaps this is the sort of strange dealing that Mr C was talking about. He said himself earlier in the season that he is fully aware of the boos and that it spurred him on to play better. I'm also of the opinion that Adkins would just tell him to man up if he came asking to be loaned out because of that.

Matthew Le God Posted 21 December, 2010 Share Posted 21 December, 2010 (edited) Dropping out of the first choice starting XI also played a factor. Chamberlain has been more effective, Puncheon 7 years older wouldn't like to play second fiddle. Holmes ( until the inevitable injury) and Dickson/Harding provide cover out wide for the small number of games between Puncheon leaving and the January window opening. Window Cleaner Posted 21 December, 2010 Share Posted 21 December, 2010 Personally I think the alleged bust up with Crosby gained a lot more credibility as soon as he was loaned out. Perhaps Crosby thought Punch wasn't doing enough defensively, defending as a team is one of his hobby horses apparently. Mind you given S****horpe's defensive record last season (and again this) perhaps he is not wrong.

Even if it was a reason like this there should have been a 'can be recalled' clause in the loan contract and he should have been brought straight back to do a job once Holmes wen on the long-term injured list. Why?? JP obviously came here with a move up to the Championship in view, we didn't make it, perhaps hanging around in this crap league was abhorrent to him. Oh right Kenny Jackett called on the off chance that JP would fancy a loan move to Millwall....rrrrright, as if such a phone call could not be engineered. I said it is a lucky chance for Punch at best.If the move wasn't engineered from Puncheon's side then it shows that vultures are always watching over us to see if anyone who can be snaffled up has been dropped.Punch had been on the bench forjust 2 or 3 games before Millwall snapped him up. saint1977 Posted 21 December, 2010 Share Posted 21 December, 2010 Best of luck to him if he does get a Prem move. I don't doubt his talent - he destroyed Leeds and Huddersfield and also was superb at Carrow Rd but his consistency and determination are what people would question. Let's hope we can get £750k or so, bearing in mind we allegedly paid Plymouth £250-350k for him, and then reinvest that in Ryan Harley - who was superb again for Exeter V Sheff Wed - and a winger with some flipping pace. Perhaps Pardew wants to bid for Morgan as well? If he does, Nile Ranger on loan until end of the season and £1m cash please which can go on Le Fondre and a nominal fee to Preston for Chaplow. saint1977 Posted 21 December, 2010 Share Posted 21 December, 2010 Would rather not take Nile Ranger back. Fair enough, his attitude was poor first time around. Newcastle must have other pacy, hungry young forwards on the fring of their squad that want first team experience? We need strikers big time, one upside to the postponements is that it gives the one striker (Barney) on our books who is vaguely on-form some recovery time. How we get Lambert back on song nobody seems to know and if we are going to get promotion this year we can't afford to wait to find out. A nice extra windfall from Puncheon would help Adkins, that's for certain.
