Saint_clark Posted 28 December, 2010 Share Posted 28 December, 2010 Barnard would have buried some of those chances without a doubt, but don't forget he's a midfield player. He still linked up quite well, and looked better when running the channels IMO.

Turkish Posted 28 December, 2010 Share Posted 28 December, 2010 Fully justifiable, IMO. you must have missed his assists then. Some Saints "fans" are unreal, after a 4-1 win against on of our main promotion rivals people still single out players for critisism.

saintedwill Posted 28 December, 2010 Share Posted 28 December, 2010 In the first half he wasn't great at all - he missed chances (but as Adkins highlighted in his post match interview - Lallana missed three he should have buried) but in the second half I thought he made intelligent runs which made space for other players and led the line well. He laid the ball off well (especially in the area where he found players with some great passes) and created two goals by keeping a cool head where others may have lost theirs. I don't think he's a striker and would be better suited playing in the hole behind the front two but we don't use that system so it's a bit of mix and match with him

Singeon Sears Posted 28 December, 2010 Share Posted 28 December, 2010 lol - based on this criteria I assume Lallana had a nightmare too then Lallana and Guly both played well along with the rest of the team, which is why we won 4-1. I appreciate he should have scored but his contribution was excellent It's not Guly's fault he is played up front when he is a midfielder - some might have noticed how important he was in most of our attacking play including (i think) two assists. Maybe ask their centre halves what they thought of Guly (and Lambert, Lallana, and co), by about 70minutes they looked completely torn apart. Deppo Posted 28 December, 2010 Share Posted 28 December, 2010 He was very good today. He should have buried the header, but a number of the ones out wide were half chances and the Huddersfield defenders threw themselves in front of him well for the others. His positioning to get in those spaces was outstanding and he brought others into play throughout the game. If you think he was awful you might want to get in that taxi yourself. We could do without you. Pathetic.

Dr Who? Posted 28 December, 2010 Share Posted 28 December, 2010 Seems a little bit hit and miss, outstanding at times and then terrible and this is sometimes in the same game. jampot Posted 28 December, 2010 Share Posted 28 December, 2010 Its a shame that his misses today have overshadowed and outstanding performance to some. Had he buried 2 of them people would be raving about him. So, hopefully with a bit of shooting practice he will be an asset to the side when required.... carljack Posted 28 December, 2010 Share Posted 28 December, 2010 Must admit I was not impressed by his prowess in the 18 yd box but his height and touch combined with his vision gave their back four a nightmare, he has the knack of drawing men out of position which then leaves space in behind, this is priceless against the bus parkers who inhabit this league. S-Clarke Posted 28 December, 2010 Share Posted 28 December, 2010 He's being unfairly judged as he's not a striker, he doesn't have the instinct to pull the trigger like someone such as Barnard - he's an attacking midfielder, which is why he should be playing there. He gave his all today and worked his socks off for the team, if he does that every week and pops up with 2 assists I'm not moaning.

Guly will not play The way he draws players away and confuses defences, he was a bit of an unsung hero today in my opinion. Well involved in all good attacking moves, finishing was poor, granted, but he isn't a forward. His ability on the ball is above this level. Agree about Barnard though. Worth having a player like him though as he can change games when things are not going well. This is exactly my view too. Hit and miss which frustrates fans sometimes but the only taxi required here is for the original poster. Guly does pull the opposition about a bit and links play quite well, I just don't think Lambert is his ideal partner and kind of agree that attacking midfield is right for him although it's unlikely NA will play him in a midfield 4 as he is a little bit of a luxury in that sense and would unlikely do the necessary defensive duties required as well like Chaplow or similar. I guess Guly will be one of those players that you either really like or really hate. Personally I prefer Lambert / Barnard but can see Guly has some ability too. Viking Warrior Posted 28 December, 2010 Share Posted 28 December, 2010 Rory I agree with others on here you are totally clueless. Guly had a good game. He had chances that should have hit the back of the net but they didnt . The header he had early on was saved by the keeper from where I was sat in the itchen, another couple of inches and it would have found the back of the net, Im saddened but not suprised that some on here take great pleasure in slagging off players week in week out even when we win. I just think he is a bad player..and one who will spend more time out of the team than in after jan.. yes he does link up play..but not spectacularly or anything..he does a decent job in that respect his efforts of goal are simply woeful...and he quite often is very slow on the ball.. then...that is my opinion. Im glad that MLT retired a few years back as there would be certain posters on here who would be moaning about his ability. Patience is a virtue when it comes to watching saints. Take puncheon he is a good player who frustrates some of our fans but then goes to pastures new and is loved by his new supporters. labibs Posted 28 December, 2010 Share Posted 28 December, 2010 Thought he had a decent game today. Finishing could have been better, but his calmness in the box for his assists were great. Definitely an asset in this league, particularly when we face teams who will park the bus (which we will) Think he got 2 assists today, if Lallana hadn't hit the woodwork, would have been three. Why complain?

oxfordshire_saint Posted 28 December, 2010 Share Posted 28 December, 2010 He's a Brazilian who's come from Italian football, he's not going to give you 90 mins of workrate or go charging into tackles. He'll be anonymous for large spells but produce telling contributions. In the 2nd half I had some fickle morons sat near me bleating on about how "that number 11 is awful" or "go on, make amends for earlier", make amends for what?!?! He had 2 assists! Granted his touch was off at times and he missed a couple of shots but he contributed to the win and people should be grateful for that.
