You'll either get Saints fans saying that it's not a big enough budget, or that's so big we shouldn't really be spending that sort of money. For me, Guly and a winger/striker crossbreed is all we'd need to win this league.

And while I do not dissagree with those who say our squad is good enough to win the league, the worst thing we can do is rest on our laurels.... We havn't even fully earnt them yet. We must keep fighting for everything we can.
gammon cheeks Posted 3 January, 2011 Share Posted 3 January, 2011 this squad is good enough to win the league No its not, we need a striker , a winger or two and a central midfielder , so only then will we have a squad BIG and GOOD enough to win the league. lethallee Posted 3 January, 2011 Share Posted 3 January, 2011 We have no obvious replacements for lallana and Ox if either got injured. At mo Dickson and richardson are only options from bench. NickG Posted 3 January, 2011 Author Share Posted 3 January, 2011 if we add - great, and sounds like they are trying, however - our form since Adkins has been here, and the fact that our forwards on our bench are better than everything Brighton can offer, shows we don't need, to strengthen - but yes please! adrian lord Posted 3 January, 2011 Share Posted 3 January, 2011 We DO need to strengthen - in anticipation of challenging for the Championship title next season. There's no way we are good enough to win that yet and go straight up to the Prem, which is what we want, and will be expected to do.

Lighthouse Posted 3 January, 2011 Share Posted 3 January, 2011 A mill or so for Guly? Two mill for Charlie Austin? Hope it's not that much... Christ I hope not. £1m is the going rate for a top end, 30 goal a season, League 1 striker, i.e. Lambert, Fryatt. Guly is NOT that good and there is no way Austin is worth £2m. Plus the fact Austin is a bit of a pr*ck by most accounts and may sour the dressing room. I wouldn't sign him at all TBH. I'd offer £500k for Guly and find another striker for closer to the £750k area. We don't want to get held to ransom here.

Guly has a better strike rate than Lambert so far and looks to be capable of doing a decent job in the Champ. I would say a mill is top end sort of price for him but 500k would be pretty cheap. benjii Posted 3 January, 2011 Share Posted 3 January, 2011 6 goals in half a season? When we signed Lambert he'd just scored 29 for Bristol Rovers. This season. Compare minutes on pitch. I'm not interested in arguing about who is better but we're not picking up a lower league domestic bargain from a cash strapped minnow we're talking about someone owned by a Serie A club. Anywhere between half a mill and a mill would be a good price.
WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 3 January, 2011 Share Posted 3 January, 2011 Substantial bids means the likes of Austin,Le Fondre,Danns,Stock and Woolford could be being bid for? I think we will try and bring in another striker, winger and possibly another centre back and central midfielder aswell as Guly permanentely.Exciting times and we couldn't have timed our good form better as it will be easier to persuade the type of players we want sitting in 2nd place than 11th that we were 3 games ago!! More important is not losing Lallana,Chamberlain,Fonte and Lambert

Saint_clark Posted 3 January, 2011 Share Posted 3 January, 2011 You're quite serious, arent you ? Jesus... To be fair, if everyone stays fully fit then it is good enough to win the league. But we need a few more players to ensure that when we get the inevitable injures/suspensions we have quality back up to take the mantle.
