Next up is blackpool in fa cup what team should we play?

I think it could be an ideal match to play

if we win , prem team beaten,

draw would prefer out right result,

if we lose by odd goal oh well prem team & lets just go all out for title

next point

skates v brighton in ideal world, battle of brighton both teams lose all their best players due to injury & suspension

Brighton only need to drop 4 points between now & when we win at their place

We've got a squad big enough and strong enough to have a go at Blackpool, could get us a nice little (ie big) tie in the fourth round. Being in the draw for the next round of the cup is always a good feeling.

Keep winning, don't bugger about with the team too much, give players a different type of test. Carry on as normal Nigel and get us back in the papers and talked about. We can beat a Premier League team currently employing B. Ormerod and J. Euell.

Would have no problems making 11 changes for this game. Just wonder if the JPT cost us anything last year (as great as the day out was, I'd definitely swap it for promotion).

Can understand the keep on winning mentality, but don't think we'd lose heart if we put the ressies out!!!!

I've always been a huge fan of the FA Cup. Next Saturday is made for a Giant Killing.

And yet with the cancelled games to be replayed just for once I'm starting to wonder whether giving a few of the fringe players such as Gobern, Martin and having some of the promising youngsters o the bench may not be a bad idea.

Putting a weak team out and getting a tonking may harm the feel good factor in the squad, putting out a decent side and winning (or getting a draw and another game) may not be in our best interests, even with the depth of squad we now have.

Tough call. Do we give AoC a rest or do we give him a big stage to see what he really has? is just one of many sub-plots. Will Guly get it all together, tear them apart and get nicked by Chelsea? 8)

This winning mentality stuff is all ******, firstly if we play our reserves then the first team wont have lost their winning mentality because they would not have played. Secondly we are playing a Premier league side so will more than likely lose anyway.

The important game is Oldham on Tuesday, I would put a team out Sat with that in mind.

Funny thing is, our 'best side' depends on who we're playing... Adkins clearly changes things depending on the game and the opposition, and there is no 'first choice XI' anymore. That said, I still want and expect him to put out what he considers to be the best side available to take on Blackpool, and not rest anyone inparticular.

I love the FA Cup but I actually feel we should play a second string. The league must be our total focus now.

My team.

----------------- Barnard ------------ Connolly ------------------

Lallana ---------- Gobern ----------- Schneiderlin ----------- Dean

Dickson ---------- Martin ------------ Seaborne -------- Butterfield

-------------------------- Bialkowski -----------------------------

I am sure we will see a different defence again, perm any three to play with Jose it seems! Give Bart a game please too; and start with Barnard and Ricky, use all three subs for Ricky, a midfielder and Adam after an hour, can move others around to fit, bring on Alex when the game has opened up a bit, as long as theyre not 2-0 up and sat back!

I would rest a few players, don't want to risk injuries or suspensions.

The way that Blackpool are playing recently, we ought to try for loans on Michael Owen and David Beckham!

They are a good Prem.side at the moment and it would be a good test of our potential.

On a good day we can match them, if we play a weakened side ..we'll get tanned...might as well send them their 4th round place in the post !

Thought for the day:

When would we rather play Charlton, arguably one of our biggest promotion rivals , at home?

Get it out of the way as soon as possible (i.e. as scheduled on Saturday 29th January)

or....defer it to later in the season?

Personally, I'd rather get as many of these 'crunch games' out of the way sooner rather than later.

On that baisis, we ought to put out a weakened side on Saturday to give us the best chance of not making the 4th round....which happens to coincide with the Charlton fixture on the 29th January.

Bigger picture and all that....

p.s. of course, this wonderous piece of logic also relies on Charlton not winning away at Spurs on Sunday!

Put out our best side. Absolutely love the FA Cup and would love to see us have another good run in it. We have a decent squad that can handle the two games. 13k sold so far by the way.

Absolutely agree. Our squad is strong enough and if things are sorted quickly it may be even stronger by the weekend.

put out your best side..then chambo pulls a hamstring as he could have done withthe rest...or maybe the players are exhausted on the following tuesday after an epic game against a passing premiership team..

the team should be decided with the sole aim of having the best possible chance the following tuesday...any player in need of a rest (chamberlain, lallana) should be given that rest without question

See I would prefer to go all out and win every game no matter what the competition is. And ****** to this we won't win it anyway rubbish it was not long ago that Cardiff and Millwall and a few other clubs got to the final / semi's. If we got to the final against a team already in europe through the league then we can be in the Championship (I hope) and play in europe too.

Unusual situation this. The bigger club in all but league position are Saints. We do not need a cup run this season unlike Blackpool who could really do with it and given the luck of the draw could go a fair way in the competition. We now miss a league fixture for every round we are in, whereas Premier lge clubs don't and this would give us further fixture congestion if we were to proceed. This, together with the postponed games due to the weather would make the next couple of months a real struggle especially if we were to get a few key injuries (please, no!). The absolute worst case senario would be a draw. Most league 1 clubs would relish a go at a Premier lge team on their own ground. We do not need it or want it (IMO of course).
