Play off final at Old Trafford

Hopefully we'll avoid the need for the play offs, but it's just been announced that the League 1 and 2 play off finals will take place at Old Trafford this year. I think it's because the Champions League final is at Wembley and the dates clash.

Even more reason to go for automatic then. Imagine us and Bournemouth travelling up for the final.

Edit; I realise we'll all be heading the same way for Wembley anyway, but at least it'll be a much shorter distance. It'll just mess up South West trains rather than all across the country.

they'll only need 7,000 tickets, 63,000 Saints fans desecending on Manchester will be some sight, it'll be a top weekend up there as well.

I'd imagine if it was, say, Saints V Charlton or Saints V Brighton they would probably move it to somewhere like the Emirates. There would be uproar otherwise!

No, not really. No different than if 2 nothern teams reach a final at Wembley.

The difference is that Wembley is the national stadium which is the normal host of the playoffs, whereas this year its not available (through ridiculous EUFA rules) so the replacement could be anywhere, so it makes sense that its moved if both teams are from the south coast.

Personally I think the Play-Off Finals should have gone to Cardiff as Wembley is unavailable although from an Albion point of view we should hopefully not be involved...As interesting as South Coast Derby as a Play-Off Final will be, if we drop into the Play-Offs now it would be a disaster...

If the Champions League final is on the Saturday, why is Wembley not available for the Sunday? Wembley normally manages to stage three finals in three days.

I believe it's a UEFA stipulation that they have the stadium at their disposal for a 'wind down' period after the game. I can't remember where I read that, and it doesn't make a huge amount of sense, but i'm pretty sure it's a UEFA rule that the stadium can't be 'released' straight after the final.
