simo Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Maybe we could have a poll set up to see what everyone thinks? Kelvin , Bart , Tommy or a new keeper?
Smirking_Saint Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 New keeper, as much as i respect what Kelvin did (though i suppose some will say its not that great, good money and 1st team footie) i just think to push on and move up in the championship we need a more well rounded keeper. Southampton FC have always had a good man between the sticks.

dronskisaint Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 We're lucky to have Bart as excellent cover for KD - both well capable at this & Championship level.
Smirking_Saint Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 I wouldn't vote for deadline day swoop either. Davis is fine until Summer, at which point we need a new keeper. And why is it for Tuesday ? I thought the thread was asking for an answer to the long term keeper problem.
Mowgli Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Davis is good #1 at the moment and Bart will become regular in due course. Both make mistakes but SKD - with some spectacular saves has gained us more points than he has lost. Bart yesterday a bit flat footed for first goal (but so would most) and I thought he was partly to blame for not getting down for the second but in fairness he did get a touch which was so nearly enough to push it onto the post
Scudamore Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Keep Davis in for now. New keeper in the summer. Really don't rate Bart at all. Don't understand what everyone sees in him.
Badger Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Viewing longer term I think we need a new GK with potential,(Lewis from P/boro ?) so why not now ? If not, then Kelvin should remain No 1. until the summer.
Saint_Jonny Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 I clicked bart by accident when i actually meant to click Davis. Not done nearly enough wrong to warrant being dropped.
st alex Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Forcast? hadn't realised he was still here. I'm indifferent when it comes to Kelv & Bart, wouldn't complain with either one playing. I do like Bart at bit more after seeing and hearing him play at Barnet in pre season, shouting to the players and being very vocal, which for me put to bed any suggestions that he was shy and lacked confidence, he seemed to have no trace of a Polich accent either. Papa Shango Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Definitely Kelvin. Some people have short memories. Kelvin has saved us countless times. Remember Sheffield Wednesday away? Brighton penalty etc?...
simo Posted 30 January, 2011 Author Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Imo give bart a go to prove himself (he held his own as a kid in the prem) if not a new keeper in the summer ! We should be looking to improve ALL areas of the team .
S-Clarke Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Definitely Kelvin. Some people have short memories. Kelvin has saved us countless times. Remember Sheffield Wednesday away? doughnutman Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Davis/Bart are more than good enough for this level but I don't think they can do it at a much higher level than this. Would love to see us swoop for Smithies from Huddersfield.

Griffo Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 There was one shot from Nani yesterday that was hit hard and bounced right infront of Bart with two of their strikers a metre or so away ready to tap any spill into the goal. He managed to hold on to it really well.
Bridge Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Davis only looked good in that sh*t team we had the year we got relegated. Now we have a good out field team Davis looks the weakest link in the side and must go go go!!! What is Richard Wright up to these days? Great goal keeper for this level. Short-term deal at Sheffield United which, if I remember correctly, should be expiring soon. Don't think he's really played for them.
Tac-tics Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 if we could bring in Alex Smithies, Joe Murphy or Joe Lewis then I'd be happy with that. Next season I think we should have a crack with Bart, always wondered how Bart eould of turned out if David Coles got to work with him
Nexstar Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 If we were looking for a new keeper it should be Richard Lee - has been outstanding this season

He managed to hold on to it really well. Yes, that was very good hands. There's no doubt he is talented in many respects but it seems evident to me that he is likely to make amateurish mistakes on a fairly frequent basis. I certainly think he will cost us many more goals than Kelvin and I think Kelvin is probably better at the snap reflex saves. Given that we control a lot of matches, KD is the sort of keeper we need; someone who can pull of a "worldie" when they've had bugger all to do for 80 minutes. astrasri Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Haven't voted (yet) I'm not sure it's as black and white as that. Bart put in a good shift yesterday, didn't seem over awed at all. OK he made a bit of a cock up with a clearance but so has Kelvin and many many other good keepers. He plays a different style to Kelvin, who may or may not have kept the two goals out, but what matters is that he did a good job on the day. What was mentioned during the game by us behind the goal was that, judging by some of the balls played by the backline across and to Bart they must have been quite comfortable and confident with him being there. That has got to be a positive for the whole team and it's spirit. I can't think of any precedent for tactical selection of goal keepers, the choices are they play well and keep their place, play poorly and get dropped or play rubbish week in week out. But I see possibilities in the tactical selection of one of two quality keepers in the same way where the selection of outfielders could be tactical depending on your opponents strengths/weaknesses. Not rotation - don't agree with that - purely tactics
