Markus Liebherr Tributes / Walsall Game Tribute

Hearing the fans in full voice today at Brisbane Road singing in honour of Markus Liebherr, it struck me that maybe there should be a regular time slot to dedicate to him?

The other week Barcelona fans dedicated the 22nd minute to applaud cancer-stricken defender Eric Abidal. Thought it was a nice touch and something similar would be nice at Saints for Markus.

Maybe the 62nd minute in relation to the age he was when he passed away? Or perhaps the 8th as he saved the club on July 8?

Maybe I am alone in this but thought I would put the idea forward.

Nice idea. I think we also need a song where his name can be more clearly heard. My suggestion?

To the tune of viva Ronaldo:

Markus Liebherr,

Markus Liebherr,

Our saviour and our King,

Hear the Southampton sing,

Markus Liebherr

HTH

Meow! As far as I'm aware, we don't have a single song to the "Viva whatever" tune! I like it as well, one of those that spreads and builds - and goes on for a while dominating any opposition chants. If you're going to have a go at songs, how about the "We're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen" one (and the like)? Annoying and moronic (and inaccurate).

Was thinking a few days ago, why not use the Walsall match to really show appreaciation for Markus, maybe with some banner of flags in dedication to him in what will hopefully be a sell-out crowd?

I tried to show my appreciation for Markus at the first home game following his passing. Tried to put my red on white WIFM banner above the stairwell, but got told by stewards that it could only go to the back of the stand, therefore not visible. Marvellous...

Be prepared for some over zealous killjoys.

Love the idea of recognising our saviour.

Take this issue up with Nicola Cortese - I'm sure he would be able to make sure all tributes to Markus will not be opposed, not just for one game but ANY game.

Glory Glory Markus Leibherr would sound good

This ...

and the Saints go marching on, on, on !

.

Simple and easy to learn. Now, that's worth trying! And if anybody from the family on the day of the Walsall match would like to offer me a place in a private jet from Switzerland to Southampton I'd willingly accept! Have to be back Monday morning for teaching Monday afternoon though!

I like this idea - would be good to see thousands of Swiss flags waved in tribute and his name resonating around SMS.

Why not sing it when the players have the pre match huddle? No danger of other team scoring and it may galvanise the team and crowd.

two good ideas, set up atmosphere and team spirit for start of the game

Part of another thread but...

The Walsall game looks set to be a sell out crowd as the last game of the season, and hopefully we'll have something to celebrate on the day.

The Leyton Orient game was a bit of a let down so the Walsall game is the perfect opportunity to pay a proper tribute to the man who saved our club:

Someone put forward the idea of getting Swiss flags in: http://www.theflagshop.co.uk/switzerland-flag-231-p.asp or ebay is also an obvious place.

Saint-clark has found Swiss flags for £3.00 on amazon.

For those with a more expensive budget: http://www.cultzeros.co.uk/southampton.asp?pg=6. Liebherr t-shirts can be found here.

If as a collective group, we raised money through the forum and paypal could do a massive flag: http://www.barmyflags.co.uk/flagdesigner.php

Anyway thought a sticky would be a great place to generate ideas. This video is from Liebhher's first game at sms, found on youtube:

Song Suggesstions so far:

and

Win It For Markus (repeat)

I want to hear that every game from now on... good thread, I'm sure the club would like to get involved in anyway they can also.

This plus SMS decked in red and white, whether it's sash or stripes.

A huge Swiss flag starting in the northam and moving around the rest of the stadium pre-kickoff would be a great touch. I'm sure if a paypal fund was set up alot of people on this site would contribute towards it.
