"who thinks it's gonna be another last day relegation fight?"

Nah....Don't be daft....we'll be down long before then.... ;)

Joking aside, how long do you think lowe will stick with poorvliet? we all know how good he is at admitting mistakes ;) I suppose there's no way he would consider another change..... then again

I don't think that, even if Lowe wanted to, the club is in a position financially to be going through a managerial change at the moment.

So basically all we can do is hope Lowes latest experiment comes good

no alot on here have us relegated by xmas ,when we went 4 games unbeaten we had the other view,me i expected us to lose some, win some this season and build for next season.

I was hoping for the same but unforetunately cannot see it. We have some very skillful players who knock the ball around nicely and it's all very pleasing on the eye. BUT the two most important skills in football are: 1) Being able to put the ball in the back of the net when you are attacking and: 2) Being able to keep it out when you defend. Unforetunately we can do neither. To miss 2 penalties is pretty p!ss poor but to concede 3 goals against a team that didn't create a single chance from open play in the first half, is unforgiveable!

The difference this time is that we have a crap keeper who is stuck like glue to his line, and last time had a manager who was free(ish) to bring in experienced defenders and a top keeper. As long as we have Davis and the two not-even-half-full backs, we're going down.

As before, sadly, if any one of Barnsley, Doncaster or Forrest can come good then we will drop.

We do not have the wherewithall for this division whilst we provide no backup to the younger team members. We need a couple of big tanks in the back row who will talk the lads through a game, who will coax, chide, encourage and (if needed) bellow at them!

(From another thread) This experience will not make men of the boys, it will ruin some careers.

Once again it's Saints hanging on the performance of others.

It's going to be tight, that's for sure. I think the big advantage we have is that we can change things. Jan could decide to stop messing about with his Total football formation and go back to 4-4-2. We could play some of the more experienced players (John, Rudi, Euell) and that might improve us.

Doncaster and Forest look to have set their stall's out and what they have on the pitch now is what they have to offer for the season.

It's not looking good at the minute and we seem to be making some elementary mistakes, but I don't think it's definitely all over yet. I'm going to Swansea on Sat, hopefully we can at least be competitive and start to look like a professional side

I don't think it will go anywhere near the last game, this current team will be down with 2-3 still to play IMO.

Last year we proved beyond and doubt whatsoever how valuable experience is when it comes to the pressure of a relegation battle. This bunch of kids can't handle the pressure even when there is no pressure.

I'm guessing people won't be satisfied if we do finish just above relegation.

I believe that we are right to expect more than that. Last season was certainly not a success and we shouldn't be satisfied with the same this time. We don't want to bumping along the bottom of the division for the foreseeable future. For a club of our history, pedigree and fanbase we can reasonably expect to be in the upper reaches of the division. Anything else is incompetent management and an insult to all loyal supporters.

Current form, last 6 games is usually good indications of where teams are heading has us 13th.

None of the bookies have us in bottom three.

League table doesn't have us in bottom three.

we are without Schneiderlin and Holmes and Euell

Do you think the supporters of the other bottom clubs are thinking saints will have one of the places sown up before end of season.

Relegation is guaranteed by Christmas if things don't change fast. This is a different league to last year with a much clearer delineation between the good teams and the poor teams. The gaps are already beginning to open up and soon it'll take more than a couple of wins to move us to safety.

if things don't change is it not safe to say the current trend will continue? Which, based on current form puts us firmly mid-table. Maybe they will change as I guess other teams around us do not have some combination of Schneiderlin, Euell, Gillet, Thomas, Svennson and Skacel to return.

Gaps opening up? We are 3 points clear of relegation zone -not a big gap, but 3 points the other way takes you to 16th -and interestingly Watford -but for a poor ref decison in first 5 mins could have been so different.

A further 1 point takes you to play offs.

We do not need a couple of wins to take us to safe position -we are there.

A couple of wins in this division, contrary to what you say, with small close gaps is more likely to have you looking towards a play off position.

sorry to quote myself -but wanted points all together. I think we will be safe and have explained why. Why do the several posters who think we will be relegated before the end of the season (quite unusual) think that?

It sounds crass to say except the three goals etc but the defence urgently needs sorting -but even with that we are no where near relegation before end of season form

I admire your optimism, and I too would be optimistic if I felt that Lowe might change things, but his stubbornness will at least see him sticking to the current plan until end of the year. Unless things change I think we will be already relegated before the last day. Sure, there are 4 teams currently below us which suggests their form is worse than ours. But then look at our fixtures so far, and who we have beaten. My forecast is based on the supposition that we have not yet faced many good teams - we certainly still have to play Wolves, Sheff Utd, Reading twice. Who have our victories been against? Derby, had not won a game of a year, they have since and are now 10th in the table. Norwich, who thankfully are 1 place below us still and also deeply in trouble like ourselves. Doncaster, still finding their feet at this level, but I would suggest likely to turn it around once the threat of relegation becomes real. I know we still have to play Forest, but on the evidence of Saturday I think we would struggle. Watford were the worst side I have seen, they had a wobbly defence, and a suspect keeper, but we failed to pressurise them, and they clearly decided in the 2nd half to conduct a defensive training session in preference to increasing thier goal difference. To be given 2 penalties, and still not be able to take advantage, is a huge confidence and moral threat.

We have also won only 1 of 6 home games, if that is not relegation form I don't know what is. 2 big defeats on the bounce, and with tough games to come. I agree the form book shows us 20th, but you have to look further than that, is there a trend emerging? I guess we will not know until a couple more games, maybe the lads will shock us by getting a result tomorrow, but I won't hold my breath.

There is still time to change things, and of course it goes without saying I hope we do, but I walked out of SMS on Saturday feeling that I had seen the worst team ever and thoroughly dejected. To hope that the return of Euell will be our trump card is to be honest clutchin at straws. I hope I'm wrong and will be the first to pat you on the back (metaphorically) if you are proved right.

fair points thanks.

I would say I have seen many worse performances that Saturday -we had possession and chances but let ourselves down badly at both ends. Would have been even more depressed if we had not had any chances and they were all over us creating chances. Putting way penalties and basic defensive heading should! be achievable to sort.

Things do need to change, that team/performance I agree is not good enough to stay up.

a season going how bookies predict would not really be up there with healing lepers!

In my book it is.

Some Red Sea pedestrian curing lepers is nowt compared to a cloggy getting kids to play like a team.
