southbourne saint Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 We have been forced to produce a fantastic run of form just to see off a brilliant challenge from Huddersfield. Any other year they would have gone up automatically. I urge you all to post a few words of respect and wish them well in the playoffs. Many of their fans have been viewing this forum and there has been a lot of mutual respect. COYRs Champioship here we come.
sambosa75 Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 It's been an almighty scrap. Fair play to them. I hope they hammer Peterborough in the playoff final.
Cestrian Saint Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Really got to feel for them. The Play-offs should be scrapped. As I've said before, the league doesn't lie and this year is a perfect example of that. They're clearly miles better than the teams in 4th, 5th and 6th. I really hope they make it via the play-offs! I'd hate to be in their position right now.
Big John Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 mutual respect for sure but I want Bournemouth to join us, not just for 6 points but with the price of petrol nowadays it makes more sense.

Gorgiesaint Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 I do have a huge amount of sympathy for Huddersfield, to go on a run like they have and still miss out on automatic promotion must be heart-breaking for the fans. Much as I would like to have seen Bompey get promoted, they really do deserve to win the play-offs (and if that keeps Peterboghorror out & shuts Adrian Durham on Talksport up then so much the better!) Saints Fan Dan Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Massive respect to Huddersfield, they've had rotten luck over the past decade and I was extremely impressed when I went to the Galpharm last season, good set of fans too.

VectisSaint Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Would be a travesty if Huddersfield don't win the play-off final, they richly deserve it. The 2 best teams in the divison end up 2nd and 3rd. Play-offs should be scrapped, but Hudders will probably be pleased when they do win at OT, because then they will be promoted and get the financial pay-back for coming 3rd. Good luck Huddersfield. SNSUN Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Despite a few *****s on their forum, by and large they've been very gracious in defeat of second spot. They've really given it their all to try and overtake us, but we wouldn't be denied. Great form from both teams, and it's really lit up League One this season. Both teams better than Brighton IMO. (;-)) I said it before the season (I'd go back and try to find the posts if I weren't so lazy) that Huddersfield are the team I was most worried about. This has been proved. Form teams usually win the play-offs - they have form in BUCKETLOADS.
raucebysaint Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Huddersfield deserve to win the play offs, but we all know its never that easy.. They have had a great run and would normally be promoted, i wish them all the best.

Latheal Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 To go on the run they have gone on and still finish 3rd has got to be heart breaking. Absolutely loads of respect for them, they deserve to go up but don't agree the playoffs should be scrapped - reworked maybe but definitely not scrapped. Good luck to them and Bompey in the play-offs (whatever anybody thinks of the Cherries, what they have achieved this year is as commendable in my book). Lighthouse Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 I don't want to sound patronising, but it really is harsh on them. Assuming they beat the Bees that's 89 point and they still wont be promoted. They deserve to go up, no doubt, but I'd personally rather have Bompey. I know they aren't Pompey and we don't like each other, but it was kinda fun having them around this season (now that is patronising ). I think Udders will beat the Dons in the final TBH. Posh blow hot and cold and seem to have lost the plot at the most crucial time of the season. Bompey have been on a downward spiral for a while. CWD Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 SHOVE THAT UP YOUR ASS YOU NORTHERN B*STARDS! I joke of course, they truly deserve to go up and they seem like a decent lot. I did want Bournemouth to win the playoffs, but that would be an awfully unfair result on an NPC quality side that Huddersfield are.

Huntingdon Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 I'd be really disappointed for them if they didn't win the play-offs To win 89 points and not get promoted would be a virtual travesty They're a good club with good supporters, so all the best to them

This! Previously I would have wanted Bompey to go up but after the run Hudders have had, and the carp I have heard/read from Bompey fans this season, I shall only be supporting one team in the play-offs. Come on the Town!!! Mind you, if they do fail to go up I wouldn't mind taking Pilkington off their hands.
JackFrost Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 I know the 3rd placed team rarely wins the play-offs but if Huddersfield don't go up I will be amazed. They must at least be close to the record of total amount of points without getting automatic promotion. Their run of good results and their form just illustrates what a fantastic job Adkins has done to get us up

SO5 4BW Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Feel sorry for the Hudd fans as I know how I'd feel if it was us. This has been a tremendous fight for second - after we won at Brighton I thought that was it but they still came back and matched us - a truly gutsy team. Very much hope they go up in the play-offs - would be a travesty otherwise
SW11_Saint Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Respect to Huddersfield, it has been an almight fight, and their run is incredible. Credit to Lee Clark and his team - played great football, and have been incredibly mature and magnanimous. Check out this on their forum - they could have been bitter about it (like Mr. Poyet & Co), but they arent' - just congratulating us. http://downatthemac.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=56527&page=1 Am a Terriers fan for the play-offs. Trader Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Huddersfield deserve to go up and I believe they will. As for Bournemouth they will do a Swindon next season and go back to their true level - I hated all that bile and bitterness from them this season. Until now I had quite liked them but not any more. As for local derbies I probably wouldn't get a ticket anyway.

Junction 9 Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Completely agree about wanting Huddersfield to win the playoffs. A good weekend in Manchester and a trophy is the least they deserve after their efforts this season. As for those wanting to go back to Bournemouth, you can go back in the pre season friendly which will surely be back on now. We'll need to test out some of the fringe players before the season begins.

thorpie the sinner Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 If they don't go up after the run they had and after last seasons efforts, there is no justice in the world! I would normally plump for Bournemouth in play offs, but they have such a bunch of ****s this season, I would like the Terriers to join us! saints-cris Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Do have to feel for them, any other year they would be 2nd comfortably. Am impressed they pushed us all the way, and quite frankly surprised we kept winning. There will be no justice if they don't go up and I will definately be cheering them on. I genuinely think they are the only team out of the 4 in the play-offs that will survive long term in the Championship too. They are a club on he up, good stadium, decent fans and a young manager with good players. Bounemouth are over-performing as it is, Peterborough will lose theiur best players regardless if they go up or not (Boyd and CMS) and therefore will have no hope, MK Dons have no fanbase and I don't think they really have the squad to be able to cope in the CCC. I will be cheering on Huddersfield.
Crab Lungs Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 As I said on DATM: "Christ on a bike, what a battle! I'm delighted today (though it isn't "confirmed" as of yet) but do feel a slight tinge of sadness for you guys. I mean, 24 games unbeaten and still it isn't enough? It's crazy and any of the next 100 seasons it'll probably more than enough, but just not this one. As I mentioned on a previous thread, I've had the misfortune of interacting with a sizeable gaggle of Brighton fans who have been nothing but arrogant, smug and spiteful about Southampton (and ironically, something they've accused us of), despite receiving the best wishes of many Saints fans... Therefore, I'm pretty damn gutted it's not you and us really. Irrespective, the playoffs. It's hard to know what kind of impact it will have on your squad but you only have to look at your unbeaten run to see that you've got the mettle to see this through. Best of luck to you, Hudders, I'll be rooting for you from here on in." Nice to know that Brighton have another 8 page thread of bitterness on us! Johnny Shearer Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Yep heart wants Bournemouth but head says Huddersfield. Harsh on them, considering their unbeaten as they deserve promotion too. Daren W Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 I really can't believe people actually want Bournemouth to go up ahead of Huddersfield, seriously.... Bournemouth fans have been nothing but a bunch of ****s towards us, they're only in the playoffs because Orient and Rochdale imploded and ****ed up. From a football point of view and if for no other reason than the sheer guts and determination they've showed I hope Huddersfield storm the playoffs and stuff the cherries... Their fans are a decent bunch too... Come on Huddersfield...
