Forecast & Pulis

Saint Mikey

Recommended Posts

Have there been two players signed by the club, that have made less of a contribution then these two? Obviously not including youngsters, but players we've signed to come into the first team at some point.

I know Forecast has been sub a few times, has he ever made a 1st team appearance? Has Pulis ever even made the bench?

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any that have made less of a contribution. I can also think of an awful lot of players that were terrible that made a lot of appearances!

To be fair, it's not the player's fault themselves, I'd take a contract if offered to me! What is so disappointing is that in this day and age, surely more than one person is involved in signing a player? Also at that time

we were skint and every signing counted. To be fair to Lowe at that time, at least he got it right when he signed Morgan...

Immants Bledilis is surely up there. His sole contribution to the cause was to come on at half time when we were 3-0 up, hardly touch the ball and help us turn that lead into a 4-3 defeat at Tranmere in the FA Cup, c2001. Pretty outstanding by anyones standard.

Yeah, I bet there's loads over the years

The difference is, in days gone by we didn't have forums to dissect every single player's contribution

Also, before the internet, I imagine the average Saints fan were less aware of squad players, or which youngsters were breaking through

Good call. Kleber Chala aka Delgado's mate would be another one...

Ahem...Neil McCann...hell I can go back to the days of Sergei Gotsmanov....Ken Armstrong...Keith Cassells...Andrei Kanchelskis....Lucien Mettomo...David Hirst...David Speedie...Kerry Dixon...Alan McLoughlin...

THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF WASTERS THAT WE WASTED THOUSANDS ON...

I take exception with Keith Cassells, if it wasn't for him we would never had Mark Wright playing for us.

Allaedine Yahia? I think 'arry signed him for something like £725,000 the season we were relegated and he never made a 1st team appearance. As an illustration of just how bad something must have been Jakobsson and Davenport were preferred to him.

Again i agree with you Jamie, this is become an all to common occurance.

they are not very good players...I suspect forecast is an adequate no.3 keeper...but at the end of the day they are not that good....just add them to the list of crud we have had/have.....

Different with the likes of Bledilis and Chala is they had careers elsewhere, they weren't completely awful, both were internationals. They struggled in a new country to get into a premier league team, but I saw both look alright in the reserves, and both did well after leaving. Chala especially looked very useful in Ecuador's midfield. Can't blame them as much for it not working out.

Pulis and Forecast are just frauds though. Pulis has chosen to sit around at club's he knows he shouldn't be a part of just to make some money off his dad's name. I have no respect for that. He good have a good career at non-league level, maybe even bottom of league 2, but that's obviously better than most of us could dream of. wouldn't earn that much, but again, more than many of us. surely playing 30+ games a season is the appeal? I know I'd choose that. I get the impression he's just not that passionate about football.

Forecast is either taking the **** or is the most deluded person to join the club. I've seen him quite a few times and he is truly woeful. It's shameful he's on such a long contract, I feel sick paying my money for tickets knowing some is going towards making a ***** like this wealthy. zero talent, nowhere near good enough for eastbourne, probably nowhere near pulis' level, I think he'd struggle at semi-pro level.

Wish we'd pay them off and get some out the club.

Isn't the OP talking about players who made zero contribution to Saints, regardless of where they were before or after?

Another one of those would be Scott Marshall, highly rated centre back signed from Arsenal, who made 2 first team appearances, scored OG's in both and we lost both games 3-0 and 4-0.

They didn't cost us any money, and are probably on lowish wages

They also haven't lost us matches or points by being involved in the 1st team

Andreas Jakobsson on the other hand cost us £1Million, and is the worst player I have ever seen in 35 years of watching Saints

TBF I don't think they've been given a chance and so we can't really judge them. The OP is needlessly picking on them IMO

they've been given a chance in the reserves in games I have seen, and Forecast was awful both times and looked totally out of his depth just in the reserve games.

Whereas Pulis was simply dreadful, and its quite clear he's only got where he has because of who his dad is. He's made 42 first team appearances in 8 years of professional football

Actually played quite a few games for us and did very well when going back up to Scotland. The point the OP was making is that these two players have literally done nothing, good or bad, for us in the time they've been here.

This. And people still blame Davenport :o

I thought Jakobsson and Davenport were as bad as each other, for different reasons. I've seen snails crawl faster than Jakobsson could run, as for Davenport he had absolutely zero awareness or concentration.

That was due to that twitchy cnt not knowing his arse from his elbow when he was here....Davenport was useless - Yahia never lost a header in the 7 or 8 games I saw him play. He was exactly what was needed then and no way would he of been bullied by Carlton Cole in one of the games that cost us our place in the Prem.

I think you'll find Ken Armstrong wasn't all bad 1983/1984 ?? Seem to remember quite a few appearances ?

Spot on Jack....I have seen them both a few times and they are abysmal - for a bloke of well over 6ft I cant believe how often Forecast gets beaten in the air by shots and crosses.

Pulis talks a good game....shame he can't play one.

It did not take long did it. It's not even seven days since we secured promotion and already people are finding something new to moan about. Wait a minute though - haven't we had this debate already??? Come on guys. Enjoy the summer. We're promoted. The only reason Pulis and Forecast look poor is that we have an outstanding squad to compare them against. A P*mp£y fan would be practically salivating at the thought of those two signings this summer.

At times, we were brilliant. Derby away

Yep, bit off topic, but we put in some excellent footballing performances at times that season, were just no-way physically or mentally strong enough to compete week in, week out in the Championship.

Funnily enough Yahia has gone on to have a pretty decent career in Ligue 1.

Almeida was Portuguese and got murdered by Henry when he came on. A bench of Parlour, Luzhny, Henry, Suker (and John Lukic), plus Bergkamp, Overmars, Ljungberg, Vieira and the usual back 4 on the pitch...

Ah, here we are : 18 Sep 1999 Saints 0-1 Arsenal (Henry 79)

Southampton

P. Jones, J. Dodd , D. Richards, C. Lundekvam (M. Almeida, 71), F. Benali, M. Oakley , M. Hughes, T. Soltvedt, W. Bridge (M. Le Tissier, 81), J. Beattie , H. Kachloul

Subs not used: N. Moss, P. Colleter, C. Marsden

Arsenal

A. Manninger, L. Dixon, M. Keown, T. Adams, N. Winterburn , P. Vieira, F. Ljungberg (R. Parlour, 46), G. Grimandi , M. Overmars (O. Luzhny, 84), N. Kanu (T. Henry, 71), D. Bergkamp

Subs not used: J. Lukic, D. Suker

Referee: G P Barber Attendance: 15242

I think the gist of the OP is that these players are dire at League One level, have never started a game for the first team (or even been risked in a nothing cup game) and have remarkably long contracts. They are not fly-by-night short term players, perennially injured, first teamers, untried youth players, internationals nor Premier League standard, which most of the others are.

What I find bizarre is that Pulis must have got an extension at some point, because his original deal was due to expire last summer. I'm assuming it had an automatic roll-over year built in somewhere.
