Rickie Lambert vs. Christian Benteke

Lambert all day for me. Does much more than simply score goals as evidenced by the chances created.

Also not entirely convinced by some of those statistics, for example the official PL website credits Lambert with 7 assists and Benteke with 4 (not counting cup games).

More misses and less chances created stand out for me.

Ricky is priceless to me.

What stood out for me as well, clear cut chances missed 7 for Bentek, just 4 fo Lambert. Things like that make the difference between staying up and relegation, plus it's clear that Lambert is creating far more.

Of course Rickie is the better player right now, but Benteke is far younger. I think honestly Benteke will be a far better player than Lambert in 6-8 seasons. Mostly because he'll have had the benefit of playing consistently at the highest level, which RL has sadly missed out on.

Lambert for me all day long, the guy makes almost everything he does look easy.

But people saying they don't rate Benteke are wrong imo. 22 years old, so strong, got good feet, brings others into play. Settled quickly in the PL with 11 goals already, I've been mightily impressed.

They aren't wrong.

It's their opinion.

I know a lot of people who share mine.

Everytime I watch Benteke, he gets praise from all over the press, despite missing countless easy chances.

The chances he missed at Villa Park against us were crazy.

Don't rate him at all.

This all day long. Not even looked at the stats but when Lambert gets chances he takes them. Does much more for the team too. Can drop back, ping balls around hitting a six pence etc which Benteke just doesn't have.

Well. That true

Lambert missed a few at OT

Missed a few sitters/easy chances in other games

Lambert is better but benteke has scored the same amount as him in a team that is just terrible

Rickie now

But benteke is going to be a very good player. And would not say no to him as a lambert replacement in a year or two

Mate, based on your predictions this season we'd already be down by now, bottom of the table with a record lack of points and record number of goals conceded. If you say that he's going to be a very good player, the likely hood is that he'll be a Heskey mark II

Can't remember Lambert having many chances at OT, can't remember the team having any real clear cut chances, despite our possession.

Where does this £6.6 million for Lambert come from? I thought that it was only £1 million. Presume that's therefore a valuation, but whose?

But otherwise the telling stats that are of more significance favour Lambert as the better player. Benteke might well improve in the future, as he is only a youngster, and then so might Rodriguez. But the comparison is between the two of them now.

I don;t see how people can't rate Benteke. He has been a beacon of hope for Villia. A quality player and has more potential than Lambert.

but I'd have Lambert EVERY time. He does so much for us that go beyond the stats listed. His touch, countless knock downs and holding the ball up well. So important for us.

Different types of player playing for a team with different styles of play. Would Benteke score more goals playing in our team? would Lambert score more goals playing for Villa?

At the moment my money would be on Lambert coming out on top. However...playing Benteke alongside Lambert - that to me would be a mouth watering prospect (sorry Jay-Rod).

Benteke is worth more money because he has potential to improve and has 10 years ahead of him, barring injury.

Straight choice this season or next though, I'd rather have Lambert if I had to choose one.

You clearly weren't at Villa away.

What striker, good or bad, doesn't miss chances? Can only remember the one gilt-edged chance Benteke missed in that game anyway. RL missed 2/3 against Everton at home

Sorry, I could also list the 6 or 7 other games I have seen him play this season where we has missed countless chances.

Quite. Even Robin Van Persie miskicked when clean through on goal on Wednesday night. If every striker scored every chance they ever got they'd be worth £500m and be the best player of all time.

Lambert missed a couple against Everton.

Remember a few sitters he missed at home to Fulham

Truth is, all strikers miss. Benteke may have missed a couple but he has scored as many as lambert in an utterly terrible team despite being a donkey??

I have said before, he is a little while away from it at the moment but he certainly has potential, reminds me of a youngish Drogba. Good technique, good in the air and both feet but needs a little sanding at the edges.

Some of the goals he has scored shows he is clearly good enough. Its hard to judge him right now playing in a faltering team, devoid of experience and confidence but I have seen enough to know he will be a player.

Fwiw Id rather Lambert right now BUT if/when they go down Id love to try and nick him

Correct. it's only the ones that play for us who are guarenteed to improve, my mistake.

Yeh because that's what I said

Everyone is getting all excited about Benteke except at times this season he's looked awful.

The Villa fans probably say the same about Gaston. Most young players have deent potential to improve with age and experience. But some like Heskey don't.

So, would anyone change their mind ?

Personally at the start of the season, and even half way through my choice woild have been Rickie, but if you offer me either for the start of next season ?

Well, I would pick Benteke

Never mind next season, I'd have Benteke right now.

He'll be gone to a big club in the summer. He's unplayable when he's on his game, which is getting more and more regular.

He's already at a big club, although under performing. He'll probably stay if they stay up..definitely going if they go down though..to Spurs perhaps?

Yeah, missed a boat there though, he still reminds me of a young Drogba, pace, power and technique.

He will be spurs bound IMO, leads the line well and everything thst Adebeyor is not. Shame, I would love him in a Saints shirt.

Lukaku is a beast aswell, how chelsea can overlook him next year is beyond me
