MOSaint Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 Lambert all day for me. Does much more than simply score goals as evidenced by the chances created. Also not entirely convinced by some of those statistics, for example the official PL website credits Lambert with 7 assists and Benteke with 4 (not counting cup games). http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/players/index.html?paramSearchType=BY_STAT¶mSeason=2012-2013 (select assist from drop down menu)
Appy Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 Everytime I watch Benteke, he gets praise from all over the press, despite missing countless easy chances. The chances he missed at Villa Park against us were crazy. Don't rate him at all.

Pancake Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 The fact that other teams are putting 2 men on Lambert creates chances for others in our team, so whilst points for goals and assists are all well and good, the bits like that which are not quantifiable also add to his value to the team. tajjuk Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 More misses and less chances created stand out for me. Ricky is priceless to me. What stood out for me as well, clear cut chances missed 7 for Bentek, just 4 fo Lambert. Things like that make the difference between staying up and relegation, plus it's clear that Lambert is creating far more.
Kingsland Red Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 Is this thread instead of a Lambert v Ali Dia thread, as that would be another no brainer. Lambert = quality and composure. Benteke = barn door and banjo QED.
CWD Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 Of course Rickie is the better player right now, but Benteke is far younger. I think honestly Benteke will be a far better player than Lambert in 6-8 seasons. Mostly because he'll have had the benefit of playing consistently at the highest level, which RL has sadly missed out on.
Thedelldays Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 Rickie now But benteke is going to be a very good player. And would not say no to him as a lambert replacement in a year or two

Andre Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 What's the point in that chart? It doesn't really show anything either way. Lambert is better, that's for sure. Such an all-round talent, and a clinical goalscorer.
rudi7s Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 Lambert for me all day long, the guy makes almost everything he does look easy. But people saying they don't rate Benteke are wrong imo. 22 years old, so strong, got good feet, brings others into play. Settled quickly in the PL with 11 goals already, I've been mightily impressed.

Thedelldays Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 I have no idea But how many goals has benteke scored this season? After all, he is playing in one of te worst teams I have seen at this level for years Benteke will be a very good player in the near future. More so by playing in a better team But lambert for now

Lallana's Left Peg Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 Benteke could progress into a really powerful footballer but I doubt you'll ever seen one who looks as confused as he does on the football pitch. Sometimes it looks like he is trying to remember what his name is.

Bearsy Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 yeah he does. I've seen a fair few villa games cos they're always on at my local. I think benteke is v.good. And would not say no to him as a lambert replacement in a year or two Mate, based on your predictions this season we'd already be down by now, bottom of the table with a record lack of points and record number of goals conceded. If you say that he's going to be a very good player, the likely hood is that he'll be a Heskey mark II

Wes Tender Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 Where does this £6.6 million for Lambert come from? I thought that it was only £1 million. Presume that's therefore a valuation, but whose? But otherwise the telling stats that are of more significance favour Lambert as the better player. Benteke might well improve in the future, as he is only a youngster, and then so might Rodriguez. But the comparison is between the two of them now. redder freak Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 I think it shows that Rickie Lambert is competing at Premier League level. A lot of people said he wouldn't be able to cut it in the Championship last season, having never played there before. So many people are wrong. We don't really have a clue what's going on around us. A quality player and has more potential than Lambert. but I'd have Lambert EVERY time. He does so much for us that go beyond the stats listed. His touch, countless knock downs and holding the ball up well. So important for us.
AussieDog Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 Different types of player playing for a team with different styles of play. Would Benteke score more goals playing in our team? would Lambert score more goals playing for Villa? At the moment my money would be on Lambert coming out on top. However...playing Benteke alongside Lambert - that to me would be a mouth watering prospect (sorry Jay-Rod). Benteke is worth more money because he has potential to improve and has 10 years ahead of him, barring injury. Straight choice this season or next though, I'd rather have Lambert if I had to choose one.

Lighthouse Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 If Villa go down I wouldn't mind nicking Benteke off them. The chances he missed at Villa Park against us were crazy. Don't rate him at all. I have said before, he is a little while away from it at the moment but he certainly has potential, reminds me of a youngish Drogba. Good technique, good in the air and both feet but needs a little sanding at the edges. Some of the goals he has scored shows he is clearly good enough. Its hard to judge him right now playing in a faltering team, devoid of experience and confidence but I have seen enough to know he will be a player. Fwiw Id rather Lambert right now BUT if/when they go down Id love to try and nick him

Yeh because that's what I said Everyone is getting all excited about Benteke except at times this season he's looked awful. The Villa fans probably say the same about Gaston. Yeah, missed a boat there though, he still reminds me of a young Drogba, pace, power and technique. He will be spurs bound IMO, leads the line well and everything thst Adebeyor is not. Shame, I would love him in a Saints shirt. Lukaku is a beast aswell, how chelsea can overlook him next year is beyond me
