35000 40000 50000?

Or new ground?

Think our present location is crap.

Cheap option for Lowe.

Really depressing walk to St Marys

If for no other reason..it's the right historical choice, and parking is a little better option than it was at The Dell, but whichever way you look at it ....it's better than Fratton - don't you think ?

I can't see who we would sell st Mary's too though, too expensive to buy, knock down and build houses on. Location doesn't exactly showcase he best of southampton to visiting fans and tha ****ing bridge ...

Think they'll extend to 40k

I was just thinking that it was long overdue that we had a thread on the stadium, whether we should expand it or move. Heartfelt thanks and eternal gratitude to Horton Heath Saint for raising this on behalf of all of us. We need more posters of his calibre to express so eloquently in writing what we are all thinking.

Well done that man.

I really don't think it's that bad getting away from the ground. We got in the car at just gone 5 and was home by 6.30 last night, and we live in Weymouth. If they get the go ahead for the improvements around the ground then I think it will be ideal. It's walking distance from the station, short walk from town. Actually think its quite a good location.

I've always thought our ground should be housed on a man made island in the middle of Southampton Water. Lovely views over Netley Castle and Royal Victoria Country Park, and if the club could remove those monstrous chimneys at Fawley, that would be great. Quite what they were thinking building a ground in a city centre of all places, I just don't know.

Bristol Rovers used to have flower beds behind the goals at their old Eastville ground, that was a nice touch too :p

I think it showcases Southampton perfectly, in the perfect birthplace of the club, exactly where a football stadium should be in the heart of the community.

If it makes the opposition a little wary or intimidated on arriving then mores the better.

But I agree, get it up to 40k at some point and that'll do nicely. But put a better roof on the place, the acoustics are sh*te.

It's a great place for the ground. What else would be happening on that site? It's good for walking in from many parts of the city. The car travel from the M271 was made worse by the lights to exit IKEA, but getting traffic away from a football ground is always fraught. It's a bit odd that the work on the Redbridge roundabout was not left until May.

Did the West Ham fans saying that you live in a sh*thole make you sad? Where else can you suggest that's better?

I appreciated the irony of them saying that Southampton is a sh*thole when their place is such a dirty, run down dump, the unwiped backside of London

So what. St Mary's comes with our own water features and all the way to the city centre too (on days like this). It cannot be said that any stadium is more pleasing to the eye (except when West Ham are on the pitch). We do not need to relocate to Ocean Village.

Why do people expect to be able to drive and park directly outside the ground and get away promptly? Park strategically well away but near to your exit motorway, and walk to the ground, via the pub or a restaurant.

On capacity: no point in half-measures, in for a penny in for a pound. 100,000 to trump Old Trafford even of they extend their top tier all the way round.

Not been to many grounds that takes you through tree covered avenues with hanging baskets, of course we could move to Horton Heath , oh forgot Eastleigh council did not want us.

They haven't been to fratton then.

Or Boro - now that ground is in a proper ugly location, horrible.

The key with our ground and the future of it, is the purchase of the land and industrial units around it. If we can do that, which I'm sure we'll be looking to do, we could make every attractive looking complex. Location wise, it's good. Not far from the main train station, main bus routes and close to all the pubs and clubs. Not forgetting the potential to have a rail link right next to the stadium.

The last thing I want is a stadium smack bang in the middle of no where, ala Brighton.

Totally agree - the potential of the location is enormous if the club can get hold of the industrialised area around it.

Location yes its rubbish if you live out of town, took me over an hour to get out of town last night, but mainly I guess due to the roadworks. But that said its my choice where I live,

Far rather have an in city ground than an out of town ground with no pubs in walking distance, think Reebok, Boro as two grounds built at a similar time, if we'd been out at Eastleigh there'd be hardly any walking fans
