Good half from us but the player in JWP's position has to impact our attacking game more otherwise there is no support for Pelle. Davis has had the opportunity to run the line several times and has decided to check back in. Perhaps that's the price we pay for being so defensively sound (i.e. unwilling to vacate his position). Take JWP off and Tadic or Long as we really seem to be struggling to get anything going in their half barring the first 5 minutes. Don't think we will be able to holdout if its 45 more minutes of pure rear guard action. The amount of times we have possession and we end up going back from their half to forster, who lumps it and we lose possession isn't good. Not bad as we are defending really well, but hopefully we see Long and Tadic during the second half and make some effort to score as I don't fancy us to keep them as quiet as that for another 45 minutes. Substitutions won't make that much difference unless we change shape a little going forward IMO. Koeman needs to tweak it a bit, and I'm sure he will. In one of our rare breaks just before HT he broke through, was 1 v 1 with their CB then just turned back into him. Got to make more of those type of scenarios if you are playing in that position on the counter. Does a good job for the team tactically but at the expense of any flair. It's not the sort of match for any new signing to really shine through - high tempo, delicate, quite physical. He's held his own, shown some nice touches, etc. Could perhaps do a bit more to drop back & support Bertrand in getting the ball out from the back ... but it's only been 45 mins.
