Schneiderlin

Am i the only one thinking he is not the same player he was in his first few games for us?

I don't mean to jump on the guys back but i can't help but feel a bit dissapointed in the lad. He started so well for us but has in all fairness looked a shadow of what he did in his first few games. He seems so dis-interested and has been that way for sometime now. Nobody can deny the guy has potential but i don't think we see it as much as we did. The same could be said for a lot of players but if your midfielders plays like he has been playing then things don't go so well. Maybe time for someone else to be given a chance?

Waste of space. Not a defensive midfeilder, not an attacking one either. contributed nothing at all today. Some nice skills and some decent passing. That's it. never gets forward enough to create a goal / have a shot and can't tackle for sh!t. Propaganda player. wehen surman plays in the middle he's not much better either though he at least breaks forward occasionally.

We lost the game largely because we lost the midfield , Schneiderlin (and to a lesser degree Surman) must carry the responsibility for this . The original post is perfectly correct - this player's performance has deteriorated noticeably as the season has progressed and the time when he and Gillett looked like a promising combination seems long gone now to be honest .

This is the fundamental problem with selecting so many young players , you don't know what you'll going to get and even when they do play well they often struggle to maintain that standard over a full season . He's still young and he may well turn out to be a good player in the long run but we shouldn't be surprised when youngsters don't turn out to be instant match-winners .

We will ultimatly spend £1.2m (virtually our entire transfer budget) on this one player in the hope/gamble that we'd unearthed a star in the making who we could transfer in the future for a healthy profit . With not very much hindsight that money would have been better spent trying to persuade Safri to stay or on signing an experienced defensive midfielder - not some ageing journeyman such as Wotton on a 'free' but someone still good enough to be worth actual money that is .

IMHO (and I do have some snippets to back up my opinion), the signing of Schneiderlin was nothing more than an investment, a gamble that we could move him on quite quickly and make a profit.

He is nothing more than a commodity, with this decision being driven by others than the manager.

As you say, considering this was the majority of our transfer budget (even if we have only paid a part), it was a pretty poor use of some very limited funds.

Schneiderlin has been excellent most of this season, okay he was poor yesterday but its no coincidence that nearly all our wins have come when he is playing.

The problem is Schneiderlin/Surman combination. Very lightweight and yesterday they both got a bit lost.

I would go with Gillett and Schneiderlin as they worked well together at the start of the season.

I think Schneiderlin has been royally screwed around since he arrived as it appears that Arsenal may be his eventual target and Lowe has preserved him, whilst JP has failed to motivate him.

He is definately playing much worse than when he arrived. No doubt in my mind at all.

Don't think we really should be judging any of the players to be honest. When we have such a clueless nice but dim head coach, completely out of his depth, players will not be playing to their true potential. Thats why Spiderman is not looking as good as he did. JP has completely lost his way(if he ever had one), has lost the confidence of the players and the downward spiral will continue. They don't know what to do, have no proper leadership that young players need (especially when Perry gets subbed). I still believe that with a proper motivated English manager and one, maybe two experienced loanees that this squad could be mid-table, then you would see some of these players playing to their full potential.

The amount of times Donny were in space between our midfield and defence was pretty shocking yesterday.

I'm not sure if this was down to lack of concentration or laziness from our CMs or whether there was some tactical master-ploy at work that didn't quite pay-off, but it was bad.

its simple really - both Surman and Schneiderlin are creative midfielders - surman is slightly more attacking and Schneiderlin a bit more of a playmaker

we need to play a hodling or defensive midfielder in the middle with one of them - it should be Gillett/Wotton/Pulis and Surman or Spiderman

I'd play Gillet and Spiderman in the middle with Surman on the left of a 4-4-2

or Gillet, Surman and Spiderman as a midfield 3 in a 4-3-3

The midfield in general was a joke. A left midfielder on the right side, a striker playing on the left. Schneiderlin is over rated and very poor, Surman is also guilty of misplacing a lot of passes. Attacking teams just go straight through us because neither stand up to them.

Schneiderlin completely ****es over every other midfielder at our club but yesterday wasn't his best game. He was the first off the pitch after the final whistle and didn't acknowledge anybody on his way off. I don't think his heart is in it but I'm unsure if it ever was, he must resent being here. He is a much better player than our current situation really deserves.

Last week at Barnsley once we had the lead he held onto the ball really well and helped the team grind out the win, I have seen him play really well several times this season and when he plays well we don't end up doing what we ended up doing so much yesterday and hoofing the ball when under pressure and invited the pressure back upon ourselves. I hope he stays long term but I think he'll be off as soon as a better offer comes along.

however crap the manager, however poor the support, however daft the tactics, however awful the chairman, however inexperienced the player, ALL the players are paid to give 100 % in matches. Sneiderlin really didn't look like he was doing that yesterday.

If so, its inexcuseable.

Well, we are truly screwed this season then. If our creative midfield score as many goals between them as that pair have, then there is very little hope we will win many more games.

the guy clearly has ability on the ball but he reminds me very much of Ballack in that he strolls around and never seems to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. He made one tackle on Saturday - his 5th all season and not once did he sprint to hussle an oponent. I haven't seen him get on the ball and get moves started either nor any of his decent longer passes. Very very poor display. IMO a defensive central midfielder is a must. Wotton and Gillett are not good enough so we need to get someone in quick sharp.

to be fair though, him and gillet worked so well together at the start of the season! When did they last play together? Fact is, spiderman and surman are too similar.

Agree both Surman and Schneiderlin are good passes of the ball but they need someone to do all the donkey work, close people down get stuck in and I think Gillet does that really well, technically he isn't as good as the other too but we'd be better off with Schneiderlin or Surman with Gillett.

Mind you the managers selections are a complete joke, left winger on the right and striker on the left is just stupid and then taking off Holmes instead of Wright-Phillips was a bit of a shock. Perry coming off was just stupid, especially as James can't really defend!

Unfortunately, I think we all know where we are heading and it isn't pretty, the manager is just one of the many problems we have with this club which needs a total clean sweep of everybody. Lowe, Wilde, Cowan and David Jones etc....
