Holmes_and_Watson Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Brilliant half from England. Portugal set up to be compact, and take advantage through the centre. England straight out the blocks, beat them on both flanks, with Hemp turning her marker on a few occasions. Portugal forced back and to play out, which got them in lots of trouble, as defensive and midfield lines had so little space between them to get it clear. England's movement (from a team with lots of experience with each other and on field leadership), and one touch passing were things Portugal just couldn't cope with. Great to watch. Try to cope with Hemp just left space behind. Pushing up, meant England put direct balls over the top. Tuck in, and England were back to getting crosses in. Top stuff. At 5-0, Bronze was making lung bursting runs from wing back positions. They didn't let up and had far too much energy for Portugal. Cracking performance, with both sides missing some regular starters. Beever-Jones, only in because Russo isn't fully fit, involved in all 5 goals.

England's passing undid Portugal, along with their work rate, and positioning. Different class. Portugal would have been relieved to see Hemp go off, only for it to be Kelly coming on. England still have some good options from the bench. Always good to see a Le Tissier in an England shirt too.

Nope, no relation. The first thing I did when I saw her playing for Brighton, was do a Google search. 🙂 But every time I've seen her for England, I'm always going to think of Matt's internationals, always followed by a "stupid Hoddle" 🙂 1

Shameful.

Holmes_and_Watson Posted June 21 Posted June 21 Rachel Rowe was picked in the Wales squad for the upcoming Euros. I see Alice Griffiths, also picked for Wales, is now listed as not being with us, but will still look out for her too. A really tough group, with England, France and the Netherlands in it.
ant Posted June 25 Posted June 25 (edited) "Swiss outlet Blick noted that the match saw Switzerland's women's team use 28 players in total, with their third-choice goalkeeper playing for the U15 side in one half. Four players were absent, including their captain and Arsenal star Lia Walti." Sounds like it was also an odd format kickabout, broken up by multiple breaks. But yes, ha ha ha - women! 🙄🙄 Edited June 26 by ant 1 4
sledger Posted June 26 Posted June 26 honours are dished out to all and sundry,so devalued they might as well be got rid of.Dont sports people already get recognised by there own associations anyway.

Lord Duckhunter Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Dorking Wanderers manager has received a touchline ban of 6 games for a comment he made about women referees parking 😂😂. Obviously, there are more women referees now, so you have to pay a bit more respect. Do you know what I mean? You have to pay a bit more respect like… help them park.“ 3

It’s like you’re personally insulting them by stating the fact that women’s football is miles below the level of men’s, as shown by the fact that is now the women’s US and Swiss international teams have been well beaten by school boy teams all this nonsense about equal pay as they do the same job, well in theory a league 2 player does the same job as a PSG or Real Madrid player but you don’t hear them moaning they don’t get paid the same 1

Dont they understand that 10's of millions watch the mens game and what that generates compared to the womens game. Some female players use their sexiness to promote themselves on the pitch, which is a nonsense if they want to be serious in the game. The Swiss girl being the most prominent for that. 1

Holmes_and_Watson Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago (edited) Bruising first half, with England 2-0 down to France. Both evenly matched, when England had VAR rule one out. England worked hard in the move to keep people onside. Even the graphic 5 mins later looked onside. But that changed the momentum. England lost momentum after it was ruled out, and France dominating the midfield. From there, they opened space behind the defence. Carter is okay as a right back, but is a weaker link at left back, and was second best throughout. After good spell of pressure France got their opener from behind right back, getting a ball across for a tap in. But there was space on the other side, with Bronze pushing up. Bronze's outstretched touch, after 2 England defenders were bypassed, gave space for the second. After that, France have moved into being more compact, out muscling England, and keen to counter. England have excellent attackers. With luck, France will be compact again, giving England space in their half to get back into it. Edited 14 hours ago by Holmes_and_Watson sp 1
ChristopheVAFC Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago The start of the game was in England's favour with a goal that should have been validated (the VAR made a mistake for me), but France woke up around the 30-minute mark and scored 2 goals, sometimes with a bit of success it's true. I imagine the English players will want to play a better second half. Enjoy the game! 1
Holmes_and_Watson Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Right up until 85 mins, it was France's game. They were in control, and had the odd opportunity, without over reaching. England's passing was miles of their own standard tonight. England switched to a back 3. Considering the space they'd been giving away down the flanks, they could really have started that way. Toone, on as a sub, got some central pressure finally for England. That led to an excellent goal from Walsh. Then, England had a front two and caused France some issues, the best being a last player clearance a couple of yards from the line. France deserved their win. England can be much better, and will have to be in a tough group. Netherlands won, so that's already changing the group dynamic in a really tight tournament structure. 2

Eric The Red Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I enjoyed the game, France were deserved winners but i thought England stuck to the task and got some reward/encouragement at the end. I also watched a fair amount of the Wales Netherlands game and I think the Dutch would need to play significantly better to beat an England team even playing at tonight's level. As for the Welsh I'm sure they'll be up for giving their big(head) neighbours a game but I think they're main challenge will be to avoid conceding double figures in their next match. 2
