Jack Posted yesterday at 14:07 Posted yesterday at 14:07 Such a frustrating situation. All the good work Spors/SR did in getting some decent players further up the pitch, gets undone by thinking Bazunu was going to be good enough. I get that we couldn’t improve every position, but if you’ve got a number of defenders who aren’t very good, and play a system that exposes them a lot, you need a quality goalkeeper. We thought we’d be fine with the worst one in the league, crazy. 5
bangkoksaint Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Some great GB goalkeeping from the Bournemouth keeper 😂

St. Ciervo Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago To be fair, his ability with the ball is not quantified in any way by xG. Macca would start -1 each game if it were. Baz is not a world beater. But he isn't as bad as some of you make him out to be. Too many on here thought Ramsdale wasn't up to task which was fantastical. Its easy to blame the keeper when the defense is crap. 3 1
Wade Garrett Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago 21 hours ago, hypochondriac said: I'm genuinely fine with that if it's clear he's backup, they get someone else in and move McCarthy on. Bazunu is perfectly fine as a number 2 keeper. The problem is when we have to play him so much. He’s not fine as a number 2 though. If you’re worried about playing him, he’s not fine. 6

Yep, if there is a functioning brain cell at the club in recruitment he's out on loan asap to swerve contract renewal. So fucking no chance. 3

Trying to think of a number two I was fine with playing for an extended period. Very few examples. Bart was crap, gazzaniga very poor for us, Paul Jones was decent backup tbf, Paul Smith? Angus gunn ? Truth is a club of our size will find it difficult to have two keepers on their books who are both very strong. I don't necessarily want Bazunu but given we've spent money on him and his attributes of being able to play out from the back I can see why the club may want him as backup. Yes but the reason McCarthy isn't getting in our team now is because he's less suited to the way we play. Also worth remembering we are a championship team now and less likely to attract certain keepers to sit on our bench all season. Not sure how I've got in the position of defending Bazunu I think he's crap! 2

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm no big fan of 2025 McCarthy either, despite him being so obviously better at stopping shots than Baz. I was just addressing your post about when did we have competent backup in recent years, and he did an admirable job that season. But that was seven years ago and he's surely going to be released in the summer (unless SR truly lose the plot and offer him another extension - I wouldn't put it past them!) 2

Yes so assuming he's off, given we will likely still be a championship club I can't really see us shelling out on a new first choice keeper, letting Bazunu go on loan with no return on our investment and then spending even more on a backup keeper. With funds tight that doesn't make an awful lot of sense. 1

AlexLaw76 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago What ever keeper we get will surely join to challenge for the No.1 position. Which, if that happens, should have happened in the summer....not as if it was blindingly obvious 1
Crab Lungs Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago There is literally no goalkeeper coach in the world who can elevate his game. Not now. This is it, this is the pinnacle. He’s shit and always will be. 5 1

Its easy to blame the keeper when the defense is crap. It isn't just opinion though mate. The stats tell us he is pathetically bad. He is just p1ss poor, season in, season out. He's indefensible. Never mind City being investigated for bending transfer rules, they should be investigated for fraud and fined 50 points for pretending this fella can play. He is by far the worst keeper to play for Saints (Forepast included) in my lifetime and possibly the worst in top flight football in my time too. He really is as bad as people make out. He has the positional sense, physical prowess and technique of a Christmas Tree. Only difference, the latter is useful for about 3 weeks a year. Granted, he can pass better then a Christmas Tree but if that is essentially your scouting report, whoever signed off on his signing should be sectioned and all those colluding in this continuing farce, should be critiqued equally. Get rid now. AM to deputise until we can get a young up and coming GK in from the lower divisions if necessary. A bit like a proper plan from a proper club and something that should have happened 3 years ago. 2
hypochondriac Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Whatever the answer is, I really thought we'd seen the end of endless discussion about what level of shit Bazunu is after the promotion season. The fact that not only did we not get rid but he became first choice again is another bad mark against Sports Republic. 1

CHDAJFU? Probably on a par with Long. Btw - just look at his career stats on that page. Tottenham -> Southampton -> Grimsby Town (loan) -> Eastbourne Borough (loan) -> Thurrock (loan) -> Bromley (loan) -> Gillingham (loan) -> Chelmsford (loan) -> Dartford (loan). Total appearances for Saints: 0. Total appearances for 7 mainly non-league clubs after leaving Saints: 34, with no more than 11 at any single club, even at Isthmian level. That's the player we agreed to part exchange for 7 x Footballer of the Year and 5 x Champions League winner Gareth Bale. I know we were skint at the time and got well and truly Levy'd but Jesus Christ I love this club, I really do Edited 2 hours ago by Midfield_General

He was on something like 15K a week for years. He knew what side his bread was buttered.

Joe Shields has done the club up like a kipper on that deal. Probably told them City see him as Edersons long term replacement but he needs experience, sign him and if he’s any good City will buy him back in a couple of years for 3/4x the price. Oh and while you’re at it buy Juan Larios too. Whats that? They’re shit? Ok I’m off to Chelsea then. 1 1

I knew someone who did some Saints players' mortgages and Ollie Lancashire and others were on about £1-£2k a week at that time. He was more likely in that bracket given his level of experience and the fact it was 2008. He also signed a 5 year contract (!) which, whilst mental - would have reduced his weekly wage but had more years than usual. We did a few contracts like that around that time. Paul Wotton was given a similar structured deal, less wages, more years. Don't get me wrong, it was good money for him at the time and a utter waste for us. But, he wasn't on anything like £15k a week. Edited 1 hour ago by Saint Mikey

The funniest thing about that image is anyone thinking that they're big time because they're in a roped off area of a fucking Pitcher and Piano 🤣 1 2

Baz tried it, but didn’t get much success, the chicks kept slipping through his hands. AM is fine as a number 2 at this level, I’m not quite sure we’d get any better . He’s experienced, and highly professional, exactly what you need. It’s a unique role, you have to prepare for every game as if you’re going to play, whilst the reality is you’ll get on as a substitute once every 40 odd games. My Son in law was a pro keeper , now coaching at a league one academy , he reckons AM is on 76k a week (he knows someone close to him from palace days).wonder what Baz is on.
