Anyone else had the email from the club warning about going on the pitch after the Arsenal game?

Shame, I wanted to run on and celebrate the amazing 12 points this season.

What a load of fucking thick idiots they are.

If anything, I bet they've just put the idea in to some heads. I doubt anyone was even considering it until that email! 😅

They secretly want fans to invade the pitch so they have a valid reason (and blame the fans) to cancel the traditional last home game of the season lap of…ahem… honour.

Could be a bit embarrassing for them in a near deserted stadium with a handful of happy-clappers and another small rabble of spotty ‘erberts screaming foul-mouthed abuse.

Remember when we got relegated to league one at home to Burnley there was a pitch invasion followed by a protest on the pitch. It's not beyond the realms of possibility people try it.

I suspect they used the wrong batch of email addresses and this was supposed to go out to the players.

They don’t need telling not to run on the pitch pal

It was more than a protest, Saints fans went to the Burnley end and a quite a few missles were exchanged. Kicked off a little bit IIRC.

my favourite ever pitch invasion game at the end of one season when the Northam were chanting “on the pitch” for the entire second half when people did at the final whistle they chanted “wankers” At those who did 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

What year was it at the Dell where everyone invaded the pitch and chanted for the players to come out onto the balcony, and then when they did everyone dug up the turf and pelted them with it? I would have been quite young but the way I remember it, it wasn't just one or two troublemakers, it felt like pretty much the entire crowd did it. It was mental.

Pretty sure I remember seeing Tim Flowers throwing some back so must have been late 80s/ early 90s?

I have a memory of this happening. I think I'd gone with my brother, so it may have been maybe 1985 / 86, but I wouldn't rule out 84...

yeah it was, i remember it. It was quite a few but it was all pretty good natured from what i remember, We'd had a pretty crap season but the players seemed to be laughing about it. It was made out in the Echo that it was fans pelting the players in the stands expressing their anger but i dont remember it being like that at all.

Pitch invasions at the end of season were a regular thing then, they were always good natured but that put a stop to them.

Main memory of the Burnley one was a load of young lads thinking they were really hard and then the old bill brought the dogs out and they legged it towards the half way line.

Think it was late 80's? Maybe 87/88? Remember Ruddock throwing it all back onto the pitch as it was being lobbed up to the Directors Box. Pretty sure Cockerill got a squinny on about it in the paper or something. Surre it was the season where we didn't win for about 20 odd games, then had that last minute penalty against Newcastle, which Ruddock of all people took.

I thought it was later than that, I’m thinking it might have been Nichols last season. I was there with mates from school in the 87/88 season I was still going with my dad. Remember that run though 90th minute penalty when Rod Wallace got fouled by the Newcastle keeper, a minute or so after we scored Le Tissier smashed the ball out of the ground over the wall at the back of the Milton which drew almost as big a cheer as the penalty

I was in the front row of the family centre for that game. The foul on Rod Wallace was right in front/ below me. I can remember perfectly watching Wallace sliding along on his front after being taken out by the keeper and it was obviously a pen. Then the unbearable tension of waiting for Ruddock to take it. Then him just smashing it down the middle. Then Ruddock doing his little dance in front of the Milton in the midst of absolute bedlam. Can visualise it all like it was yesterday.

Not quite, there was a lot of pent up anger that day, we were relegated or about to be relegated to league one, administration, club in turmoil, I remember a bloke appearing in the away end in a Skates shirt, it all boiled over really , Paul Wotton still on the ground injured i think , I remember the year before we invaded the pitch celebrating Championship survival against Sheff Utd that was much more good natured.

Here's some highlights from the Burnley game

Sounds about right, just beaten Man Utd? It was good natured but got a bit too rowdy for the club I think

It's a funny email, i'd have liked them to add an asterisk in the small print

*however if a last min winner is scored by the Loch Ness Drogba with a Van Basten style volley please feel free to hop over the boardings and celebrate briefly on the pitch

Yeah I remember the skate fan which seemed to be the trigger point.

I missed the Sheffield United one sadly so had to wait for Walsall for my first joyous pitch invasion.

They should let the away fans out first, then let fans on the pitch. It's a major achievement if we get 13 points let alone 12. Let the players get off the pitch then clear later if back out. Or don't sell the first 10 rows away end with netting. We end up getting on the train back via Eastleigh, Winchester with away fans and never any police when trouble occurs.

Yeah I was there!! I was 17!! ! Fantastic ending. Another game where Newcastle couldn’t get a win at our place. How times have changed.

By the looks of it, I reckon the team were given this email at the start of the season, because I don’t see many of those frauds running on it.

Surely they arent going to do a lap of honour?  Maybe Rasmus would like to get on the mic and thank the loyal fans who have been subjected to this shitshow all season.

No but they might want to do a lap of dishonour and be booed and jeered all round the ground

Players should all do a walk of shame to the funeral march whilst self flagellating with a soggy copy of the Goldmine Effect.

The title of this thread....Don't run on the pitch... I'm assuming this refers to our players? ☹️

Can see a half empty ground when the players come back out.. don’t think I’ll bother. How can anyone applaud this seasons effort… when there hasn’t been much effort.

Half?! Hardly any, I'd say. I might go and give some custom to The Guidedog which I used to visit on the way to the station when we'd won. Haven't been there for a year or so..

Knowing how tone deaf this club can be, they probably will.

They should certainly scrap the ‘lap of (call it what you like)’ this season and just group up in the centre circle on the final whistle and collectively applaud all the fans (remaining) to show some appreciation of the commitment shown by supporters selling out home and away every wretched week. It’s been horrendous.

Wade you’ve gone off on one haven’t you?
The email you are referring to was one sent to all the players before start of season. And you’ve even misread it.

The original email warned our players not to run ON the pitch.  I think they’ve done a pretty good job of that this year despite all the criticism.
Mateus nearly ruined it towards end of season and there was a patch mid season when they had to have a stern word with Tyler but, on the whole, Saints players have complied with the not running on the pitch instructions very well this year.

An e mail to run on the pitch needs to be sent out for next season to the players. It's a dilemma for new manager as it's unlikely players who like slow walking passing football will be able to adapt to high press running football.

I'm genuinely tempted to reword the email slightly and send it to the club FAO the first team.
