Honestly I am staggered how you lot all didn’t notice this last season, it’s UEFA changing format that caused the change. Not some fucking conspiracy. Fuck me Reforn are going ro win the next election

yes, they will as they’re the only party worth voting for

Not sure what that has to do with the Carabao cup being rigged though

What a shite fucking draw that is. I know we not gonna win it but it’d be nice to draw someone localish, or a team we don’t play that often to change things up a bit.

I’m not being obnoxious - or certainly not trying to be - but how does the change help accommodate UEFA comps? Is it to do with set schedules for midweek games or something? I have a vague memory of staggered games last season but if honest I can’t say I paid too much attention outside of our own cup games.

Exactly. Literally played them every season for 12 or 13 years now.

I’m trying to work out when this will be scheduled for. Assuming it will be week commencing 22nd, as if I’m not mistaken, there is a UCL fixture the week before?

By complete chance, I am in England for the first time in a long time and I happen to be up North, flying in on the Tuesday night.

Fingers crossed for a 23rd Wednesday fixture, shouldn’t have trouble getting tickets…

It really hasn’t. Try reading up on it. Do you think the league met and said right we need to fix this draw?

Whelk, I fully appreciate that the EFL needed to do something because of UEFA's decisions but there are other options which would at least enable the chance for 2 CL or 2 EL teams to play each other. It's the way that they guarantee the 'top 8' are kept apart that sticks in the throat.

Not only that, they don't even enter until round 3.

Which when you think about it makes no sense as none of them have even played any European games yet.

They need a rest though after playing tons of overseas friendly games for more $$$. Bless 'em.

Feel free to explain why a Europe team playing another Europe team causes more of a fixture issue than a Europe team against a non-europe team.

Relax guys.

Will Still's about to Belgium the fuck out of Liverpool 😏😏

Also - its an absolute disgrace that these European sides get special ceded privileges in the cup draw.

They get significantly more prize/TV money (which is locked away from the other EFL clubs) as a reward for playing in Europe and which allows them to build bigger squads to compete - they also have to play the same number of matches regardless of whether they play each other or another team. This is an absolute fix and should stopped as it's frankly the anthesis of English cup football.

And damages the integrity of the Premier League since these teams will have a midweek rest for the first few games of the season.

They could just change which week they play in in Europe. And continental football shouldn't trump domestic football. Greedy corrupt shiesters at uefa 😡

And yet when they do get to play their sympathetically arranged fixture the likelihood is they’ll use a load of fringe players and U21’s.

Load of bollocks.

Learning how the draw is now rigged robbed the league cup of any remaining interest. Hopefully we play complete reserves/b team against Liverpool.

Agree. I'd be in favour of boycotting the game , complete fix

Just devalues the whole competition. Pointless.

Hasn’t that been the case for many years though, even going back to when Saints qualified for Europe in 2003 ?

Last time we were in the championship we got Liverpool away in 5th round of fa cup that was also midweek,  took 5500 up for that, can't see many going this time

A friend just reminded me they lost to Plymouth last season so you never know

Even so, I've got my "that was a good thing, actually - we can concentrate on the league now" post all ready to go.

If still can match PSG, he can put out a team to cause a problem for Liverpool's reserves 🤞

Agree, I always hope for an away ground we haven't had before (or certainly not for a while), if not that then a lower team at home.

We've played Liverpool away every season for past 12 years and it's usually a crap away day, I'm sure will appeal to some of the half and half scarf brigade. We've got loads of travelling around then, away to Hull, Sheffield United and Derby  all much more important games and better trips.

So it's essentially because UEFA is hugely greedy

It's only a problem if a Champions league team drew a Europa league team. Just have a normal draw, if Nottingham Forest or Aston Villa drew a Champions league team then redraw that tie, otherwise no need to keep the 6 champions league teams apart to stop them drawing each other

We should have drawn with them at home in this comp last season, and also did well away in FA Cup under Martin despite us playing a weakened team with Lumley in goal if I remember correctly
