This is for those films that everyone and particularly critics are unanimous in praise for but you can’t abide.

I’ve already mentioned Apocalypse Now in the Robert Duvall thread but I think it’s really turgid and dull.

Mulholland Drive - to be honest I could put almost everything by David Lynch but this one will do. God knows what the plot is but I couldn’t figure it out. Cinematography is great and Naomi Watts and Laura Harring both get their tits out which elevates it a bit.

Raging Bull - couldn’t even finish it. 
 

As always, completely subjective, no right or wrong and no justifications needed.

Not overly shit and watched it again recently but cannot fathom why many people list The Shawshank Redemption as their favourite film.

I dont know anyone else who have ever seen this 😂 The weirdest film ever, watched it about 5 times and still none the wiser as to what it's about. The birds in it are fit though

Fellini’s Satyricon. Released in 1969, the critics raved about it and it was the cool film to see according to my peers at school. Still don’t have a clue what it is about.

Last Tango In Paris. Boring.

Betty Blue. Boring and depressing.

Saturday Night Fever. Hated disco. Disliked The Bee Gees and John Travolta. Not sure why I went but wish I hadn’t.

Dumb and Dumber. Irritating and not remotely funny.

La La Land. Fell for the hype. Wish I hadn’t.

A Clockwork Orange. Stylistically brilliant but the casual violence is disturbingly portrayed as a bit of a lark.

I only watched it again just recently and reminded myself how utterly brilliant it is. I keep meaning to read the book but never get round to it.

Agreed, surprised at Whelks comment, Shawshank is my favourite film of all time, I watch it every time I’m on a long flight.

The problem with critics is that they spend their whole lives doing nothing but watch films so always end up wanking over films that are a bit different to the norm, just because they are different.

Yeah, they definitely have a different criteria than the rest of the population.  You can see it to an extent with all the awards ceremonies, all the films are either different or worthy kinds and anything purely commercial finds it hard to get a look in. Nothing wrong with worthy films per se but I wouldn’t rewatch them much whereas I have a load of superficial popcorn films that I find much more enjoyable.

I’ve never seen Star Wars. My wife and her family claim it’s the best trilogy (the original first three films) to exist.

At which point I started reeling off other ones that are way better like Back To The Future etc.

Oh, Lord Of The Rings I’ve never seen, never been interested in watching films about fairies or magic pixies or whatever it is.

How do you know they are way better than Star Wars if you've never watched it?

When I was at school there was a massive buzz about the film Caligula, a couple of mates managed to get in to see it. Always wanted to see it and finally did when it was recently released on Amazon Prime, my God is was bloody dreadful.

Not sure they fall into the everyone loves category but the Rise of the Foot Soldier series dear me! First one was okay but from the third one on just laughable, they seem to be having a competition as to how many times they can say cunt in 90 minutes.

Yep, shockingly shit imo. Just don't get the appeal, apart from the female casting. On the whole I don't like ridiculously far fetched or cheesy stuff, and Bond movies fall into both camps.

Bond films are a mixed bag. Some are utterly ludicrous, like Moonraker, Die Another Day and No Time to Die. Others are gritty, believable and well made, like Goldeneye, From Russia with Love and Casino Royale.

Out of the nine core Star Wars films, only three are actually decent, which isn’t a great success rate.

The ones I've tried have been so bad it's put me off them all. The only time I've ever walked out of a cinema is during a bond movie. The sad thing is, I love a decent spy movie or series - Tehran at the moment is class, for example. That's what I see as believable, not Bond.

I’ve never walked out of a cinema during a film but I came close with Deadpool 2. If I’d seen Deadpool 1 I wouldn’t have gone.

Deadpool & Wolverine (Deadpool 3) was decent, it’s the only one of those three I’ve seen

I'm not a massive Bond fan either although I didn't mind the first two or three Daniel Craig films (mostly) which seemed a bit more grounded and tended to have a plot rather than a collection of set pieces tacked together.  Still prefer the Bourne films though.

Another vote for Apocalypse Now. Only got around to watching it recently for the first time. Some great scenes for its era, but plot-wise pretty dull, to be honest.
