Dare I say it, Adam Armstrong is exactly the sort of player they were lacking, with an instinctive eye for goal. Thankfully Rob Edwards took him to Wolves instead ...

Come on I felt for him, taking Southampton so close is the greatest night of his career. You can understand him being emotional.  From five appearances in the Swedish 3rd division to leading Southampton at St Mary’s for 35 minutes he’s had an unbelievable journey, it might be as good as it ever gets. I’m sure over the next few weeks he’ll look back with huge pride rather than sadness. Don’t be sad it’s over be glad it happened Kim.

I don't get the love in for Hellberg. They were second (1 point behind Cov) in Feb, they finished 5th behind a side who were 15th give or take at the same time. 

Apart from the first half at their place - where adrenaline carried them, and 10 mins down here, I though they looked really poor across both legs and very unfit. 

Unless they're willing to spend big to have a squad big enough to rotate (as we have done to be fair), I don't think his system is sustainable across a season in the championship.

Sparing a brief thought for Matthew Targett, not much has been made of his previous connection with us but he was a boyhood Saints supporter who apparently turned down Liverpool and Chelsea when he was in our academy. Sold only because we had a better prospect in Sam McQueen coming through the ranks and we needed funds to bring in Che Adams.

Some of the media reaction has been insane, I've said it before about the standards of local radio but we are lucky to have BBC Solent providing some genuine balance and measured viewpoints as opposed to the utter dross other parts of the country get (and dare I say it, encourage)

To be honest they looked unfit last night, so I'd have them in for Pochettino style double sessions for the next week between the suit fitting at Matalan ready for Wembley.

Agreed. I think Nathan Wood had a similar experience the other way round - 'Boro lad, got to the first team with them, then loaned out a few times and eventually sold to Swansea. 

Thought both players put in massive shifts for their current employers over their home teams.

Funny how he was fine about it all before the first leg, and then once they failed to break us down at theirs and it was obvious they'd blown their big chance he started crying about how evil we were, almost like he was trying to distract from the fact that he'd managed them from 2nd to 5th and then blown the play-offs. Fucking gimp.

Boro should be docked points for being crap. I am now suspecting Boro didn't want to win game as they know they ard shit and likely to lose. That keeper is shit he needs binoculars to see a slow cross from miles out come in.

That defender tried to score own goal header.

Boro players fitness shit, rolling around with cramp.  Why didn't manager field a fit team with decent subs, even Saints can do that.

Two red card tables and off ball incidents all point to Boro not playing football,  and play to lose to get Saints kicked out.

The writing was on the wall after about an hour of the game up there. They demolished us with a multi-player, highly intense version of Pochettino-ball. We couldn’t get out of our own half. But they didn’t score and then they ran out of gas, and everything changed. They were never going to recover in time to do it again three days later.

This is probably why they lost momentum after Hellberg took over. They weren’t fit enough to play his style, and we know how hard it is to improve fitness mid-season.

So, they didn’t lose because of some minor spying shit within 72 hours of the game. They lost because they weren’t good enough to win.
