revolution saint Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago 2 minutes ago, Chez said: strange to read a story that says a player has tuned down a move. When players turn down a move you tend to not hear about it. If we called his agent and asked if he fancies the move and the answer was "thanks for the call but he doesn't want to leave Lazio" you'd imagine that was the end of it Perhaps it was along the lines of "come back to us in a few weeks once we know what Lazio's plans are for him" and then when we did the response was "Lazio are going to give him minutes so now is not the time for a move". I guess maybe it could be quibbling over wages or playing time? Does seem strange to go back in after a refusal (if that’s what has happened)

Does seem strange to go back in after a refusal (if that’s what has happened) Sure, but you'd (the agent) just continue to talk not say 'no' and then tell the world about it. Its the agent's job to liaise with clubs, keep negotiations going and options open, not embarrass them by putting the story in the press. Also, if the first answer was a flat out no, why do we call back? The first answer was more likely "call back in a few weeks once Lazio decide what they plan with him" - with the agent leaving the player options open. If we then call back a few weeks later and the answer is a "no, because he was on the bench in the cup game", then no problem. Edited 6 hours ago by Chez

Line up the replacent(s), and have them ready to go on completion of a deal that meets our valuation. Or tell them to fuck off. In an ideal world we’d ship out Quarshie on loan or whatever and find a more competent replacement for him, as well as a THB replacement if Villa put their hand in their pocket
Chez Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago 1 minute ago, hypochondriac said: Still no indication if they are getting both of them or not. Lindelof and Torres are first choice at the moment in their four man defence. Mings was on the bench on Saturday and came on. They also have Modu Cisse (21 years old) who they signed in the summer for about £4m, who started pretty much every game for LASK who won the double in Austria. 1

Another transfer window nears it's end. Another chance for MLG to desperately try to be relevant while repeating the core information already posted by others. I remember the time you were desperate to post first. You were repeatedly beaten to it. Then claimed that your sources were different/had greater validity/were the true source. As you continued to get pipped to the post, you went off in a passive aggressive sulk. That was years ago, and you've not changed a bit. 2
goodymatt Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago The Birmingham Mail reporter seems to suggest they are progressing with Ordonez due to our valuation of THB. It would be interesting to see if they do try for both, especially with the loan an obligation for Ordonez leaving funds available. From a Saints perspective it would be great it a move doesn’t materialise for him but fail to go up and it will be a big problem as his value next summer will be much less.

Chez Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago 1 minute ago, Pierre2 said: If we're still looking for a holding midfield player Oussama Targhalline might be wordt a punt. Probably to expensive for us... A big yes from me. He looks a good footballer. Earlier on this thread I was describing the need for another Jander type that 'loves' the ball. Not a one touch passer, a guy that holds onto it that little bit longer, giving everyone one an extra second or three to get into space. Not sure we are looking for a holding midfield payer? But is he one anyway? With Bragg and Downes more deep lying, I think maybe a midfielder that gets up and down is probably preferable, although I'd hope the criteria is simply "a bloody good footballer" 1

Not sure if it makes any difference at all how long they have left, but if you don't want a player, having to loan them out for another three seasons is not going to be ideal. Ramsdale 2028 BBD 2028 Sugawara 2028 Archer 2028 Downs 2029 Quarshie 2029 Bazunu 2027 I suspect we have been holding out for a fee for all of them, but with a week to go you start to accept that isn't going to happen and you start to consider loan offers. 2

I agree his value will drop next summer but I wonder how much by in the event we don’t go up? If Villa’s first offer was £18mil I could still see a prem side paying £15mil next season. My hope is THB respects that the club are holding a reasonable value and it’s up to Villa to meet it. 2

AI says it usually takes three months before you can play again, so it might only be a month. How long before fully match fit is another thing. 1

We aren’t being unreasonable asking for £25m with add ons up to £30m, in this market. He was bought for £20m plus you’d assume we paid a loan fee for the first season. Since then played for England and scored, has some (questionable) PL experience but has developed into a better player with potential still to realise. I hope you’re right and THB understands we aren’t blocking his move for a silly fee but he’s very likely to be fuming if this doesn’t go through. From CL football to sticking in the championship. The players motivation will be a concern if he stays. Of course as a Saints fan, you want him to stay and help get us up. 5

When you see the fees banded about now and combine that with knowing how much Villa have recouped in sales this summer the reported offer is derisory. I agree THB would probably be gutted not to make the move. It’s a fantastic step up for him and there is an opportunity to establish himself as a first choice centre back for a prem side playing champions league football under a top coach. Hopefully if Villa can’t make a sensible offer he’ll grumble but get on with the job at hand. I think he could be fairly confident that after next summer he will be in the prem either with us or somebody else as we won’t be able to let him leave on a free if we don’t go up (I think!) 2
