A football thread - Cardiff tomorrow

Anyone else a little more excited than usual about tomorrows game due to last weeks win? A back to back win is unheard of in recent times but should we manage it I guess we would be well within our rights to start dreaming of survival.

As for the side people say you should change a winning team, is that how everyone else feels? I think Schneiderlin could be fit, does he return in stead of someone or does he go on the bench?

Oh one more thing, should things go well is there any chance at all of Wottes name being sung? What would it take for that to happen?

It was a little optimistic trying to start a football thread, but then you added the comedy sing along moment which means this will of course get hijacked:o

Meanwhile where are those that had a funny feeling before last weekend's game - could do with more of that!

I am a horses for courses fan I think we should sometimes look at the oppostition and produce a side that counters their strengths and weaknesses.

Cardiff usually play with wide men especially Whittingham who ripped us to shreds in the away game last year so we need to be strong on the right hand side of midfield - trouble is neither Lallana or Schneideling are good tacklers or strong.

Yep looking forward to tomorrow - not sure if I'm confident or not (nothing unusual there then) depends a lot on the attitude of the team and of course how Cardiff line up and there attitude. Will Cardiff come for the win thinking that we should be a push over given our frailties etc or will they come for the draw (they seem to be draw specialists on the road). It would be good to see Saints get B2B wins at home and would give us the confidence to really push on and with a little luck keep our place in the Championship.

As to changing a winning team - not for me. I thought Gillett did well last week, certainly enough to keep his place. Schneiderlin should be on the bench. I liked the way we played last with McG and Euell swapping roles - I think if they do it again but actually swap more while the game is going on it will cause Cardiff problems as in general Cardiff go man to man. LLoyd James also needs to get his crosses in from about 10 yards further up the pitch to maximise his great outswinging cross.

I think we will need a win tomorrow B4 Wotte can expect to have his name sung out.

Every time its looked like we've turned a corner this season, its turned out to be a false dawn.

Why do you feel this time is any different ?

Being attacked down the flanks seems to give us our biggest problems week in week out. James will be exposed if he doesn't get the defensive support from in front so who can play in that role to give him some cover? It's clearly not Lallana's forte to play right-side but we've tried DMG and he doesn't give the cover either, Smith is injured and he struggled when playing this side. What's the answer?

I would suspect a 1-1 draw, but we so much need a win. MUST start with the same team and Saga/Euell in a 4-4-2 or 4-1-2-1-2 formation depending on Cardiffs wing play. Wotte has found a winning formula from a desperately lacking squad - if he changes it, he really does not deserve any further support IMO. If the lads can cut open their defence early we will have a chance.

My concern also as I think it is most on here and those that are not - last week I was going to the game expecting to come away disappointed. This week I've taken heart from the performance of last week (we played like a team) so will go tomorrow expecting to come away with a similar feeling as last week. We will need to combat their wide men and compete for everything to get the win but its not beyond the team that was fielded last week.

I probaly wouldn't change the team and certainly wouldn't bring Schneiderlin back as he's yet to prove his place in the team yet. I do worry about the lack of width we had last week against a very poor Preston team on the day. I do hope Chopra is injured come tomorrow as he is the real threat along with Jo Ledley, Ross McCormack & Paul Parry.

Its got a draw written all over.

I'm not sure I do feel anything is different, but as I said in the pre Preston game thread - I go into every game with hope. The difference this week is that I go into the game with hope and also the knowledge that we won last week and wins bread confidence.

If I had to put my house on it I'd say last week was just another blip in our relegation season but I'd rather wait until after the game before I confirm that.

Can I just add that we didn't play a great deal better than a lot of other games this season but there is a fine line between winning and losing in football and perhaps Euell up front, Seijs at the back and Saga finding his range is enough to tip the balance. Lets hope so.

Go on son, let your guard down for five minutes and actually hope for better.

I worry more about the strength of Cardiff wide men. Preston must have offered the least threat from their two wide players of any side we have played this season. I was surprised at how poor Wallace was considering how well he played in the televised FA Cup game recently.

Having no rigid left and right midfield leaves us wide open and we have been exposed time after time. Gillett actually covered the right side a lot last week - especially long channel balls. If they chose to pass it short but in wide positions I just wonder how he is going to be able to snub that out as well.

Isn't it amazing that we have no specialised right back or right midfield in the entire squad?

Hell freezing over.

Question for you Mr Nauseating little shyte,: IF Wotte keeps us in the CCC this season, then takes us on a promotion fairytale next season which ends in our Premiership status being reinstated, Will you still be spitting your bile? Or am I correct in my assumption that you are nothing more than a poor insignificant Skate, on a very boring and very dull wind up. Please answer.

I'll settle for the same result as last season..........a boring 1-0 victory.

I am with you I think a scrapy 1-0 will do the job Cardiff are a decent side

but a win is vital I dont know why I am getting myself worked up I had accepted relegation after the Donny game but a win tomorrow and I might start thinking we can survive.

The thing that has really p1ssed me off this season is our team/squad has the ability to be comfortable mid table you look at other mid table championship teams and what players of theres would you want in our team not that many our team has massively under achieved but if they pull off survival I will forgive them.

Looking forward to the game COME ON YOU REDS

Im glad im not the only one to see him as he really is. And as for him not answering to hypothetical questions, he seems more than happy to talk hypothetically about us being relegated and in administration.

As for tomorrrows game which is what this thread is about and also what Stanley has failed to have a view on. Im optomistic and genuinly think Wotte has got them thinking more in training and that has been reflected on the pitch. I think we are still week at the back but thats more down to nerves than ability and tomorrow will all be about staying solid at the back and taking our chances. We can really build on last weeks win with a good result tomorrow.

ill be back but cant get to the game but at least being in southampton ill be able to listen on the radio.

Let's just say that I shall be going to the game with a bit more optimism than previously. I still think that we're deep in the doggy-doos but with a fair wind, an early goal and a frenzied crowd screaming their support we're in with a chance.

ok, I'll settle for an early goal.

Fercrissakes be more specific, an early Saints goal!:-)

Saints have falsely raised my hopes too many times to raise my optimism very high, but it's a better state to be in than the opposite. Last weekend was good with the win and my Italian footie debut, so it'll probably be a loss by Saints and me not even on the bench. I still hope for both though, and scoring in my home debut on Sunday. We'll see....

I think its too late to try it now but I think having Immudia as right back and Lloyd right side would add a bit more pace and steel.

Trouble is Jeffrey hasnt really been tested at this level yet and we are not in a position to gamble.

I have watched him quite a few times and he looks a decent player - think Kenton but without all the falling over and injuries.

A draw or better will be a good result. We dont need to lose belief again by losing the game.Cardiff are a good side and to expect to beat them is beyond me.From little acorns and all that.Lets stop the ;losing win ,draw and then move onto games with a little more confidence. The fans have shown tremendous character in staying with the side, after saturdays game there was a belief starting to return we must notdash that with defeat, go for a win by almeans but if it is 1-1 after 88 minutes take the point this time.

i would like the club to look at Lutons right back, i have seen him play twice and both times he has been assured quick and comfortable on the ball.

How tall is Immudia?

The OS doesn't give individual palyers stats anymore

100% agree with you Nick but i think this has to go down as a must win game for us (they all are these days). But we only have 6 home games left, 5 after the game. The fixtures we have are a mixed bag with Derby and QPR,Charlton,Palace and Burnley. If we are going to stay up we have to say chances are we will need to win at minimum 4 of those 6 and hope we get some away wins. If we lose and then have 5 games i think were have to then win all of them, but i can't see us winning against Burnley. Maybe draws with Derby and QPR. Our away games are going to be very tough what with playing Wolves,Birmingham,Ipswich and Watford.

So a must win game or will make the remaining 12 games even harder. After this game we then have 2 difficult away games at Ipswich and then Birmingham. Meaning if we lost all 3 of those games we would probably be royally up the **** hole.

But i have a good feeling about tomorrow, i think we will win and avenge the loss we had on the 1st day of the campaign. A loss which was a bit harsh on us i felt. I got last weeks prediction score right and i'm going for another 3-1 to Saints this week :)
