Tamesaint Posted 3 May, 2009 Share Posted 3 May, 2009 This afternoon goes to show how desperately we need Size. It was 1-1 when he went off & Lancashire replaced him. 10 minutes later it was 3-1. Lets just hope that we keep hold of Size - or at the very least find a suitable replacement. I can now say that I have seen Gasmi play!! With a bit of luck I will not see him again in a Saints shirt. Arizona Posted 3 May, 2009 Share Posted 3 May, 2009 My similarly titled thread vanished pretty quickly into obscurity. Think I was a bit premature... anyway, here is my posts again FWIW: "Well done to all those that went. It was a pretty good turn out and atmosphere considering it's a 3 hour drive from Southampton for a relegated team with nothing to play for. Some good chants. We did our best to make Rupert feel welcome and there was a good mix of songs. Every time Forest scored, we had a disco in the away end. Weird to see all 4 sides of a ground singing and dancing after a goal goes in. Was also good to here Marian Pahars' chant get thrown in randomly a couple of times. Song of the day: "Stand Up if you've got swine flu!" Saints looked the better side throughout most of the game, but it just seemed to fall apart at the end really. Story of our season I guess. Our goal was pretty well taken by BWP, who looked pretty lively. I honnestly didn't see any of their first as I was looking at the home fans at the time. Their second resulted, surprisingly enough, from poor marking at a set piece. By the time the third went in it was pretty much 3 Forest players against Kelvin as the rest of our lot were halfway down the tunnel. Size, James, DMG and BWP looked like our best players for me. Size and DMG in particular looked well up for it."

whitenred Posted 3 May, 2009 Share Posted 3 May, 2009 Good day out, despite the result. Our fans were superb some good gallows humour going on and outsdang the Forest lot easily (although they were pretty poor). Think we were def saying goodbye to a few players at the end, hence the shirts etc being lobbed into the crowd.

Think we were def saying goodbye to a few players at the end, hence the shirts etc being lobbed into the crowd. That and the fact that those shirts will never be used again and are as such completely worthless to both players and club. Was interesting to see Killer hoofing a few of the training balls into the crowd before kick-off. They could have been used again.
Griffo Posted 3 May, 2009 Share Posted 3 May, 2009 Well pretty much every player lobbed a shirt into the crowd so I can't see that meaning they're all off. Seaijs was outstanding again. Bradley looked quite good. Was good fun celebrating their goals and having loads of 'disco's throughout the game. Singing along to Chelsea Dagger was good as well. Sure we'll be back, support was top today.

david in sweden Posted 3 May, 2009 Share Posted 3 May, 2009 I keep saying it but Saeijs is THE most important player in the side and essential to any sort of promotion effort. it all seemd to fall apart after the subs....was Ollie Lancashire involved at all? or to blame for either goal, I do feel sorry for the lad, he had a terrible first season, but is he one for the future? Bristol_Benji Posted 3 May, 2009 Share Posted 3 May, 2009 I plonked this in another thread, but worth putting here as well: Just thought i'd copy and paste some of the comments from forest forums about the saints fans today. We were awesome, a good atmosphere, and in good humour! 'fantastic applause for Billy and the Boys and Southamptons supporters did their team proud' 'Also fair play to the Saints fans, even dancing when we scored our 1st, 2nd and 3rd.' 'The 3 goals and banter with Soton fans has proved too much for my throat. Credit to the S'oton fans they took it on the chin, was a bit dissapointed we didn't give them much support after the game but we did clap them for a bit in LB.' 'Southampton fans 10/10 or should that be -10/-10.' Crap result, crap season, but we can still have a good time and show what good fans we are

georgeismyname Posted 3 May, 2009 Share Posted 3 May, 2009 Yeah, it brought a tear to my eye when the Forest fans clapped us off at the end and a Forest fan on the upper tier in the corner near Block W said "Come straight back up" and pointed up as I walked down the steps. Support was fantastic but the defending was poor without Saeijs. Shame the players threw all their shirts etc into the bit behind the goal and forgot us lot is the corner area . First time I've ever seen the away fans celebrate a home goal and the away fans be applauded by the home fans. All in all a good day out despite the result which didn't matter. Andy_Porter Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 Quality weekend, probably the best away of 2009, just a shame we couldn't hang on to the lead. McGoldrick and James where both stand out performers for me. Think the main problem as usual was not getting the second goal when we where winning, Euell is never going to score enough goals as a lone striker and the two wide men don't take enough chances or get into the box enough. We really need to sign a proper goal scorer next season or change the system so we play two up top. Gillett had a good game but the Forest midfield over run us at times and Schniederlin got shown up again, he's a good footballer but not suited to the league at all and I can see it being even worse next season. The defence untill Size got injured was playing well and looked quite solid even with Surman at left back going forward at every chance. Once Gobern moved to left back and Size got injured we seemed to struggle though, Perry can't do everything on his own and Lancashire doesn't look ready at all. Really looked like Davis was saying goodbye to the fans at the end, he looked really emotional as he walked the length of the pitch and then he went round quite a lot of the players individually before throwing his gloves, captain band and shirt into the crowd. Surman stuck around for a while longer than the other players as well so I think those two have probably played their last game for the club. Block 5 Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 Best away game of the season for atmosphere. Did any one notice Euell after the game? My mate was sat with Forest fans and said that when all the other players came over to applaud us Euell walked in the opposite direction, back to the tunnel. On the way he passed Wotte and totally blanked him.....
CB Fry Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 I've had a look but couldn't see any mention of Leon Crouch and Mark Dennis in the stands with us, about three rows back from me. He didn't seem particularly amused by everyone bouncing up and down to the Fratellis when Forest scored their second and third. Possibly the gallows humour a bit too close to the bone. Great atmosphere throughout, I had a little tear in my eye especially when the Forest fans applauded us. The getting on the pitch nonsense was a bit unneccessary though, but no major harm done. Oh, and not completely sure of her legality, but Leon's (I think) daughter is definitely worth one.
