That a FL club has asked about Dowie's situation at Newcastle.

Interesting I thought.

MLT would know Dowie well. I knew him for a while when he played for us (went out with his sister in law), he's a decent bloke and I'd love to see him here.

He'd be one of the more realistic targets.

I think he would be an excellent choice. He is very innovative with lots of ideas (was one of the first to have those American football style Microphones) and is intelligent - didn't he have a degree in engineering.

I'd be pretty uninspired by Dowie TBH. I'm not expecting a bigger name than him...I just think there are better managers out there.

Also, I cant decide whether an incoming manager having a strong relationship with the chairman is such a good thing. Could friendship cloud a chairman's judgement over cerain things?

He's a strange one. He's shown ability in all his jobs, did fine at Coventry then harshly sacked, and very harshly sacked at QPR, but that club's a joke now anyway. Didn't get anywhere near enough time at charlton and anyone was going to fail after curbishley.

 

But he does now have a track record for failure. Not sure I'd be confident of him coming in and staying 4 or 5 years.

Perhaps 4 or 5 years is what he needs.............stability!!!......a word we have all forgotten.

Quinney and Keano springs to mind....Wasn't there sum Dutch guy at Southampton VERY close to a Chairman....

It's highly likely. Matt is a mate of his, and Dowie can have no certainty about what is going on at Newcastle. Apparently, they said at Coventry that his family were still living up north and this proved a problem, rather than his management ability. He will have to move them back south - this is a huge job that needs undidvided attention -travelling backwards and forwards to Lancashire won't be an option. Personally, I would prefer Paul Tisdale as Dowie's record is rather mixed.

I really like Dowie as a manager. Hope we speak to both him and Tisdale and work from there.

We are in the 3rd tier of the football leagues, we can't actually pick and choose who we want, we're not that an attractive proposition (yet!) we'll have to start from the bottom and move our way up again, if we get Dowie I think it would be a step in the right direction. Would still prefer Tisdale but I'm sure his stock is even better than a L1 club now, wouldn't be surprised to see him at Swansea.

I think both Tisdale and Dowie could be easily attracted here, depending on other offers.

These are the only names I can think of so far who are both realistic and fairly popular.

Think Tisdale would be a better long term option and may bring about more success.

Dowie would offer higher profile, attract proven players and may give quicker return.

I've always liked Dowie. He's got a good track record at our level of football and the one above, is an intelligent and articulate man, a former SFC player and is experienced in British football. He'd be a very good choice. His Crystal Palace team was perfectly set up to gain promotion to the Premier League as it was based around a fast attack with width, playing off a solid targetman, and had an experienced and physically powerful defence. I don't expect miracles next season, whoever is the manager, as 10 points will take some making up, but the season after that, a second-season team managed by Dowie could take some stopping.

By the time Tisdale has been around for as long as Dowie I expect his record will be 'rather mixed'.

Though to be honest dowie in my book would do a good job for us. He has shown he knows how to get teams promoted and given a run he could do a job for us.

As I said, Ferguson is unlikely. You clearly have a very negative outlook on life. I pity you.

Cant remember if Coppell has, but Ince and DF have already managed in League One so maybe the retard quip is more suited to someone who has clearly got annoyed over someones "wishlist".

IMO (and maybe I should PM you to get your approval first?) Saints are potentially going to be a very exciting project going forward (assuming everything pans out) so there WILL be huge interest in the managers job, that if it ever went public.

My belief is that if MLT is involved, the wheels will alrready be in motion.

Although I think its unlikely, I reckon Coppell would be the best choice. TBH he seemed pretty downbeat after leaving Reading so maybe he would enjoy some time away from the intense media spotlight?

Tisdale would certainly be the more realistic choice, and I would be over the moon should it happen.

That said I dont think Dowie would be a bad appointment. I wouldnt be jumping for joy but he does have the aggression and passion needed to get out of this league.

Also I dont think Ince is way out of the question - we have to remember he moved to Blackburn from MK Dons, and failed. I dont think a return to league 1 to continue learning his trade would be completely unrealistic
