Song for Gabbiadini

To the tune of That's Amore ...

There were no possibilities

back in old Napoli

for Manolo

Come to St Mary's

Said Mr Les Reed

to Manolo

Now he scores goals with ease

then he slides on his knees

that's Manolo

.... needs some work

I think you're on to something...

First verse:

They preferred Higuain

Back in old Napoli

Poor Manolo

Come to St Mary's

Said senior Les Reed

Please Manolo

then your chorus repeat x2 with the the refrain

That's Manolo

That's Manolo

Might challenge a few though with the subtle Dean Martin pitch shift :-)

Manolo is magic

He wears a magic hat

And when he came to Southampton he found the fuc*ing net

He's scoring with his left foot

He's scoring with his right

And when he scores/scored at Wembley

We'll sing his song all night

Delete as applicable. Ignore after the final if he doesn't score/we get battered.

It's a shame Manolo is one syllable short of Graziano - in light of Saturday's performance we could have used the "Ho ho ho it's Magic" song. Perhaps an extra word could be found from somewhere?

Failing that, 'Radio Ga Ga' has a very easy rhythm and syllable pattern:

Our Manolo Gabbiadini

Gabbiadini

Gabbiadini

Manolo what's new?

Manolo, score and we'll love you

(not sure about the last two lines)

Gabbiadini's magic

He wears a magic hat

He could have stayed at Napoli, but he said no **** that

He's scores them with his left foot

His arm, his head his right

He's taking us to Europe

To sing his song all night

Delete as applicable. Ignore after the final if he doesn't score/we get battered.

Slight amendments made - rather keep Wembley out as only applicable for 1 game potentially.

Personally think this is a winner, easy to remember, sounds decent when everyone is going for it and doesn't mention Pompey.

What is it with some Saints fans? They seem more obsessed with telling everyone they hate a tiny nothing of a club down in the fourth tier of English football instead of just properly getting behind our players. We don't care about Pompey so stop singing about them! Maybe you should just think about this: every time a Pompey fan reads about us making songs about their tin pot club they must feel an odd sense of affirmation that their club must be something special because Saints fans are still singing about them! Why do people want to give them that pleasure?! Stop, think and get behind Saints instead of spending your lives worrying about them!

As for a song, it would be great to have something a little different like Stone Roses, etc. but the reality is that we all have widely different tastes in music and lots of these songs will be unknown to many fans. So we must choose a song that just about everyone will know. That doesn't have to mean all the same songs that are used over and over and over again though! There are plenty of well-known songs that are not widely used.

I would therefore like to suggest a few songs on which a theme song for Gabbiadini or some other player or manager could be based. Some of these may have already been used; others may not have been used or have not been used recently:

* Yesterday - The Beatles

* It's a Kind of Magic - Queen

* It has to be perfect - Fairground Attraction

* What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

* Come on Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners

* I still haven't found what I'm looking for - U2

* Help! - The Beatles

* Somebody to Love - Queen

* All you need is love - The Beatles

* Light My Fire - The Doors

* Every time we say goodbye - Ella Fitzgerald

* I'm a Believer - The Monkees

* American Pie - Don Maclean

* Hotel California - The Eagles

* Feel - Robbie Williams

* Wish you were here - Pink Floyd

* Bridge over troubled water - Simon & Garfunkle

* I will survive - Gloria Gaynor

* Imagine - John Lennon

* Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin

* Wonderwall - Oasis

* Stand by Me - Ben E King

* I heard it through the grapevine - Marvin Gaye

* We'll meet again - Vera Lynn

* Dancing Queen - Abba

* God only knows - Ther Beach Boys

* One - U2

* The Boxer - Simon & Garrfunkle

* Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen

* Everybody Hurts - REM

* Somewhere over the rainbow - Judy Garland

* Unchained Melody - The Righteous Brothers

* Let it Be - The Beatles

* Yellow Submarine - The Beatles (OK this one probably has been used quite a bit!)

* It Must Be Love - Madness

* Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney/Wings

* Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey

* Waterloo - Abba

* Shout - Tears For Fears

* Fast Car - Tracey Chapman

* Happy - Pharrell Williams

* Beneath your beautiful - Emeli Sande & Labrinth

* Blank Space - Taylor Swift

* Hello - Adele

* Fix You - Coldplay

* Hotel California - The Eagles

* The Hall of Fame - The Script

* Stop in the name of love - Diana Ross & the Supremes

* I love Rock n Roll - Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

* I wanna know what love is - Foreigner

* O sole mio (Just One Cornetto) - Giovanni Capurro & Eduardo di Capua!

er... ok... gonna stop there! There are absolutely loads of course(!) but my point is that with so many songs to choose from it must be possible to create something original using a well-known song that everyone will know!

So, to end with how about these for possible Gabbiadini songs:

Fast Car - Tracey Chapman

We've got Ma-nolo Gabbi..

Man-olo Gabiadini!

We've got Ma-nolo Gabbi..

Man-olo Gabiadini!

He's gonna score a goal for us; he'll get another and Saints gonna win!

He's gonna score a goal for us; he'll get another and Saints gonna win!

(repeat)

Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Ma-no-lo Gabbiadini, Ma-no-lo!

Ma-no-lo Gabbiadini, he's gonna score a goal.

He'll score from the left, he'll score from the right,

He'll shoot it long, he'll shoot on sight.

And then we'll sing loud...

(Repeat)

O sole mio (Just One Cornetto)

Manolo Gabbi, Gab-yadini

A goal machi-ine, from Italy!

He shoo-oots, he shoots some more,

Gabbiadini, he's gonna score!

Great post for anyone that missed it - surely the threr in bold are crying out for a Tadic, Bertrand and Gabbiadini number. Nothing major with multiple verses but a better quick and easy singalong chant than the white stripes one being sung about every player on our books.

Edit: Also think

(if the link works, if not it's 'Follow The Leader') would be great for Maya Yoshida. Chelsea used to do it for Florent Malouda but arguably Maya Yoshida fits better. Edited by saintwbu

Agree that the big list of songs can help generate ideas, even if some of the ones in that list wouldn't work. And yes, as much as multiple verses on here can be amusing, there's next to no chance of them realistically turning into a crowd favourite.

It's also key that a chant doesn't try to cram lots of syllables into the line even if it appears to work literally when written down, and also the specific words help rather than hinder the line scan. Anything which requires fans to sing something quickly to get the words in will fall flat on its face. It's why I've suggested the 'Radio Ga Ga' one above, it's by no means a clever or inventive chant but the word "Gabbiadini" is easy to sing in that rhythm!

Bom bom bom bom badum ba ba ba bom

He was excited to come to Southampton,

He was excited as he could be,

And that's why he came over the ocean,

And he signed for us from Napoli

(2, 3, 4, tell the people who will score)

It is the itsy bitsy teeny weeny Manolo Gabbiadini,

Who will score for Southampton today.

The itsy bitsy teeny weeny Manolo Gabbiadini,

And at Southampton we want him to stay

(2, 3, 4, stick around we'll tell you more...)

Repeat.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRy5lO0rtZY

Go on mate, you start it we'll all join.

But all honesty, this best suggestion so far.

I came across this song recently and it's crying out to be used as a football chant - Heaven Knows by The Pretty Reckless -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHBxJCq99jA

How about

Oh Oh Here We Go

Another one for Manolo / Come on Saints and Manolo

Or

Oh Oh Manolo

He's a Saint just watch him go /

The song is great for a chant, just need the words to be right - and no Pompey references please!

Definitely one of the best known Italian songs and scans well with his name, either Manolo or Gabbiadini.

My effort:-

He's Saints star and he'll shine, scoring goals all the time

That's Manolo

When he plays like a dream, the star of our team

That's Manolo

And he'll sing, I'm marching in and I'll be in that number

Scusa me, I left old Napoli for the Saints now

Not sure this one would actually work as the song isn't catchy enough for a chant, but it doesn't seem to stop other suggestions so here goes!

"Genie in a bottle"

Well he came from Napoli

He scores goals home and away

Gabbiadini* in a bottle, you gotta see Manolo play

* (pronounced Gabb-ya-dini to make it fit)

In Prague, they were doing some sort of bouncy-bouncy to the tune from Kingston Town (UB40 etc.), the bit that goes:

dum, dum-dum-de-dum, dum-dum-de-dum, dum-dum-deee-duuum-dum

We could copy that.

Gab, Gab-Gab-bi-Gab, Gab-Gab-bi-Gab, Gab-iii-aaaa-diiiii-niii

If we wear some tight-fitting gym clothes and a bum-bag it will add to the spectacle too,

It's the guy on our bet

Gabbiabini

Then he'll curl the ball

In right over your wall

Gabbiabini. ......

Chants don't need to be scientifically and anatomically 100% correct.

I hate to break it to you, but Tadic and Graziano weren't actually capable of magic.

Nor Geographically correct either according to you. But still, now Caceres has signed, you can sing that he crossed an Ocean to be here instead.

Cracked it! For the old boys on here, to the tune of the old Ron Davies song:

Hi name is Gabbiadini and he comes from Italy

He takes the ball from Tadic and the rest is history

You always can rely on him to score the vital goal

And as for, (insert opponents name), Ibrahimovic you can stick up yer 'ole

La la la laaa, la la la lala, la la la la la la la lala, (repeat).

Let's here it from the boys!

Was listening to Radio 2 this morning when they played "We will Rock You" by Queen.

Realised that as "We will, we will rock you" fitted Manola Gabbiadini, (but Mano Gabbiadini slightly better), it seems a good choice, especially as it is anthemic.

Mano, you're the man, a really big noise

Playing for the Saints, gonna be a big hit today,

you got a smile on your face, you've got good pace,

scoring your goals all over the place

Mano Gabbiadini,

Mano Gabbiadini.

Opportunity for the wall bangers at the back to thump out the beat too.

Can't be bothered to find a video of the tune but it's a fairly common one in football, fast paced. Hope you can pick it up from the words. Keep it simple

He's come to us from Italy

His name is Gabbiadini

woah, Manolo

He's scoring goals at St Mary's

His name is Gabbiadini

woah, Manolo

LOVE IT!!

Maybe stick as close to the original Ron Davies song as possible with the 1st 2 lines.....

His name is Gabbiadini, he's the leader of the team,

He's the greatest centre forward that the world has ever seen,

etc etc

I agree but I thought, out of respect for Ron, it's early days. Either way it's a great sounding song,(in my opinion)

I've just been reading an in depth interview with Manolo from a couple of years ago off the Gazetta Dello Sport website.

There's some interesting snippets in there but what stood out for me was he seems to have a really savage dislike of Portsmouth Football Club. Does anyone think this would be something we should commemorate in a chant for him?

Read the same article, He really does dislike then doesn't he!

Monolo Gabbiadini

He hates Pompey

He loves linguine

Monolo gabbiadini

Clap clap clap clap clap

Monolo gabbiadini

He lived on the Amalfi coast

Would have Pompey on toast

I like the suggestion to simply chant (The Ramones) "Gabba Gabba Hey!", but for something more melodic it probably should be a Barry Manilow song ...

Gabbi we love you come, come,

come into our ground

Let us see some wonderful goals from you

Gabbi we want you,

now, now, now and score one fast

Could this be the magic at last?

I'll be honest, for an old post-punk fan like me I'm going to struggle chanting a Barry Manilow song :-)

Surely something by The Fall can be shoe-horned in ?

(I realise I was championing a Dean Martin tune earlier on in the thread)

Some may be a tad optimistic if they think our fans these days are capable of anything unique and more than a couple of lines long.

The "magic" song is a possibility using a bit of artistic licence

"They're magic, you know,

Tadic and OUR Manolo"

or

"They're magic, YOU'LL SEE,

Tadic and Gabb-ya-dini"
