Right,

I know that we're below you in career terms. But, you're a legend here. We would be flattered and honoured if you'd return as our manager. You'll be listened to by the fans, have backing and if you appeal for patience we'll give it to you.

Gordon, you're a Saint. Please, we have a wonderful opportunity and so do you to give us back our pride. Come and manage Southampton FC instead of Southampton Leisure Holdings plc FC. Fans are the same - leaders are not.

You're our choice. By a country mile given the indications on betting sites and on here.

Please. Come and join the fun!

Come on wee man... you're a Saint.

... Anyone else agree..? :)

Saint Markus... whatever it takes, it'll be worth every minute of the ride!

Scu- FYI

I am at home now and can see your Avatar thru Chrome.

Yeah i sorted it...

I am pleased to announce that using the Save for Web & Devices function in Photoshop my Avatar will now display for users in IE. Which should please everyone i'm sure...

Still i'm looking to distance myself from the whole hearting Fry situation now...apparently hearting the entire nation of Switzerland is where it's at now...so i''ll follow the sheep over to incorporating some hideous national stereotype into my avatar when i can be arsed to change it...

PS. you'll always be a Steve to me!

He's my second choice. He'd be okay, but not quite as good as my first choice - the hugely underated Tony Adams. Adams has the drive, personality and footballing brain to unite the fanbase after a few good results and show that in the new era of our club, we will not turn to the past, we will not hold irrational grudges against those who have worked for our footballing neighbours and we can look forward to a brighter, successful future. Saints have been granted a second chance. We owe it to Tony to grant him a second chance too.

(P.S. I don't believe any of this)

Nah can't see it, sorry. There is some weird betting patterns emerging imho. Know then, who is itk who likes a flutter and might want to send people off the scent? Not Tony Adams we know that from the other thread. But then again. ;)

Wee Gordon Strachan, if he came back we would be a CL side within 4 to 5 years, I have absolutely no doubts about it. He's a class act, the bees' knees!! What better way would there for the man to prove his managerial prowess than to take a Div 3 side all the way to the CL!!

I'm with the 99% of others on this thread with the same sentiment Robbie.

HOWEVER; what if .....he won't come? Thought about that?

What will it be like for another worthy candidate to take the job, say Mr. X ?

Will it mean that fans are going to set up an " ANTi-Mr. X " thread and start criticising the guy before he's bought a player or chosen a team , just because we can't get WGS ?

I fear that the hysteria surrounding this appointment ;e.g. no Tony Adams (I'm also agreeing with that BTW) and the " please come and sign Gordon brigade," might make it very hard for an eventual third candidate to get acceptance from sections of the fan base. I'd like to think that WGS would make a sensible decision about this ; for himself and the club, but if he doesn't want to come - what then ? ..PLUS... Is it only the bookies who have stirred up this betting hysteria over WGS ..and it was never going to be Strachan ..even from the start?

Let's hope we're all happy ..and he does come, but if not ...don't let's make life harder for the eventual new man. COYR !!!!

WGS was always "quirky"

He had a rough time in his later days at Coventry, came here (with some reservations from the fans) but proved himself.

He then went on to manage "a BIG club" with a degree of success.

Where does he actually go from there?

The PL is a bigger stage than the SPL, but would he settle for mid-table mediocrity in some mid-table English town or City?

To manage at the same level as Celtic in the PL he has to look at one of the top 4, or at worst Villa/Man City. Is it feasible any of those would hire him at this point in time?

So the sales pitch is there - the unfinished business, the lifestyle of Warsash and not having to commute, all of which in the real world get tempered with "Celtic & CL to L1" - you're having a laugh, never go back type comments.

It makes sense, it is do-able, would he work in a DoF continental structure? Could our supposed DoF ever be as experienced as the wee man? Would the wee-man be looked at as DoF acting as mentor for Svennson or another young coach?

It works, the timing is right and it really really really could happen

I have some reservations about the DoF position but I don't believe for a minute that we'd be where we are if we'd had a decent one for the last five years.

Too many key football decisions were being made by what were essentially non-football people.

We face the same danger now, even if we're much richer.

I think WGS would shine in that role.

If he doesnt come we'll get someone else, hopefully not TA! But, I thought this thread would hopefully continue to express the desires of the fans for the new owner and also for WGS.

Dream come true if he came. But, I admit a dream come true.

I think it would be a great appointment, with the proper money he could get a team together in a good physical shape able to meet the challenge of the league. There would be little pressure on him as he is still loved by the majority of Saints fans. Although unlikely I would love to see him back, an appointment on a similar scale to WGS would be a brilliant end to what has been a great week!

The Bookies have stopped taking bets on this market as it seems like the deed has been done and the new Southampton manager is going to be Gordon Strachan. Gordon has recently parted with Celtic and this looks another tough assignment for the Scot but no better man. All of this comes in the wake of the new buyout of the club and it seems that things could be getting better for the southern club.

Sky Bet's Mike Triffitt said: "Strachan is the only candidate that customers have wanted to back since news broke of Wotte's sacking yesterday. "We took a steady stream of decent bets from the Southampton area at odds against last night and this morning we had several requests for four-figure bets at 8/13. We are close to suspending the market as, if the money is to be believed, Strachan will be making a return to St Mary's."

sounds promising

I don't think that having spent +/- £15 million on buying the club that ML is likely to be influenced by the actions of a bookmaking firm !

To say that Strachan WILL become manager BECAUSE we've stopped taking bets on it ..is no indication of the frame of mind of the owner. Bookies are there to take the punters money, and it's not so often we get it back, I think it's a scam by the bookies firm.

Although indeed I would like to see Strachan appointed (certainly before many of the names I've seen mentioned so far)... I don't think I'd react to the frenzied betting storm, even if it was generated by our faithful fans.

I previously posted that ..much as I'd like WGS to become manager...let's be prepared for another decision.. otherwise there will be some bitter words for whoever (else) gets the job, if it's NOT Strachan.

My feeling is that Strachan will be DOF, with a talented young (but experienced) manager or coach in charge of the team.

Or that, he will be given the manager's job and in couple of years move up to DOF.

You have to say that Strachan is the perfect choice. Not just because he's a hero round here already but because of what he will bring to the team.

Strach would install fitness, motivation and organisation. His sides play at a high tempo with a strong work ethic, combine that with strong financial backing from ML then getting out of League 1 in 1 or 2 years shouldn't be a problem.
