S-Clarke Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 http://www.southlondonpress.co.uk/tn/Sport.cfm?id=30544&headline=Stern%20John%20hits%20back%20at%20Saints%20boss%20Pardew CRYSTAL Palace new boy Stern John has hit back at Alan Pardew - after the Southampton boss slammed him for not signing a new deal with the League One outfit. The 32-year-old striker recently penned a 12-month contract with the Eagles, despite continuing to train with the South Coast side over the summer. But John says that if the Saints wanted to keep him they shouldn't have dragged their heels over putting a deal in front of him. John said: “He [Pardew] knows the truth and I know the truth. They talk about players being loyal to clubs but I was there for two seasons and after the first one - where I really kept them up - they told me they weren’t going to play me at all. “I told them I wanted to stay but they never sorted out a deal properly and when I came and spoke to the manager at Palace he changed my mind about everything. I still have a lot to give and I wanted to play at the highest level.” Don't miss Friday's South London Press for our interview with John - part of a 16-page supplement kicking off the new season for our clubs. Sounds fairly agreed from last years ''push out'' and you can kind of understand it. Not so sure about his comments about us ''never sorting a deal out properly'' though - maybe he was just being pushed by his greedy agent to demand more? Not so sure about his comments about us ''never sorting a deal out properly'' though - maybe he was just being pushed by his greedy agent to demand more? He knows the truth aswell that last season was down to Lowe because he was one of the high wage earners and that Lowe wanted to get rid of him. As for this season he was offered a new deal after saying he wanted to stay and decided to join Palace. I don't have a problem with a players right to reply but Pardew wasn't here last season and he should get his facts right. Sounds like sour grapes to me. Boris Karloff Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 He does have a bit of a point about being shoved out last season. But I don't really believe the point about no contract being there. I think it was probably there all along he just chose not to sign it.

I feel sorry for Stern. TBH he was treated badly last season when he should have been given the chance to stay. He could have stayed this season though but I understand his reasons for going. I would prefer Rasiak anyway if we can keep him.

Arizona Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 Does come accross as a bit of a budgie in that, but he does raise a couple of valid points. As arrogant as it sounds, his goals did keep us up last season and we repayed him by forcing him and all the other experienced players out. Don't know who he thinks he's kidding though. He left for more £££ and CCC football.
Pancake Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 Talk about taking a quote out of context. if that can be made into a dig at anyone, it is Lowe and the previous board. The season he "kept us up" was 07-08 no? OK, so teh season after when he was told he "wasnt going to play" would be 08-09, last season, when we didnt play a lot of senior players that were on a high wage. He was loaned out. He comes back when we are in a state of Administration and wonders why he didnt get a contract offer straight away? Idiotic quote taken out of context. Still makes SJ look like a tit though, no matter how you dress it up. Not APs (nor MLs) problem at all.

Fact is his goals did keep us up to a great extent. On top of that he wants to play at the highest level, i.e. the highest level he can attain, and at this stage in his career thats clearly CCC. **** people about (not AP or ML's fault) and you don't get loyalty in return. Stern John is just like the rest of them, a greedy bastard! He was one of the top goalscorers in the CCC that season and scored 20 in 50 odd games for us. Fans are so fickle! He is better than L1 standard and has secured a contract to play in CCC on more money (we presume) which is what we would all do. Nothing to do with greed, just personal ambition and motivation. The fella owes us nothing and you are forgetting football is his job and he has every right to move for more lucrative terms when out of contract. Arizona Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 Do you know what the deal was that he had offered? What if the terms of the deal were derisory? Would that not be reasonable grounds to look elsewhere? Swiss billionaire ... derisory contract offer. Kelvin seemed happy enough with his deal and he had offers from West Ham. I doubt he'd be offered more than we'd offer SJ. Just to clarify, I don't have any beef with John for leaving, if he wants to play at a higher level that's his perogative. It's the way in which he did it that p*sses me off. Coming back to Saints to get fit, knowing we were in delicate financial times and it might be a while, if ever, that we get round to offering him a new contract. Then turning down the offer, going to Palace and claiming it's our fault.
