S-Clarke Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 I've just been watching Pard's preview on SaintsTV...quite interesting. He wants 3 more players signed before the end of the window and 1 in before Saturday (we all knew that..) Priority is still CB...but what I found interesting is what he said about this. We're running 5 lines of enquires...it's very hard to get the right player - but He's looking to get a CB in that puts pressure on all the defenders at the club and raises the game for the team. If not Jaidi...I wonder who? Sounds like it could be another ''high profile'' name. Also mentioned that he could have signed a ‘younger’ striker for the same kind of Fee as Lambert. Possibly Tom Craddock at Luton? He made the right decision tbf.
SuperSAINT Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Interesting... Any clues if he's going to go for another striker? I can't imagine Saga will stay (and that's IF we're lucky enough to keep Rasiak). I wonder if he is targetting Whitbread @ Millwall? I know he wants a higher level, but then you would've assumed that about Lambert too. Then that just leaves the mysterious midfielder....

I think we'll lose 1 of the Poles and with the news i heard today that we've accepted a bid for Greg - it may be him. I agree, if one of the Poles goes we need another striker - i think Pard's will realise that too. He didn't mention about that in the interview though, just that both ''Poles'' have got the motivation to leave. I think it's 3 signings with the squad as it is atm...but if we lose 1, we'll replace. I still have the hunch that the midfielder is Racon, although it could be a certain Matt Holland...

northam soul Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Well if we are going to have someone who can play saturday they will have to get a move on so we should be expecting an announcement tomorrow morning. A new face in tomorrow especially if he is of a decent calibre would give a huge boost for the game on saturday and then away again on tuesday. Come on Mr Cortese hurry up its been a few days now since the Lambert signing.

If we lose raza, we'll definitely replace - if he's not happy with 3 CBs, no reason why he should be any more happy with 3 forwards. Cant see us getting less than 500K for raza and as Pards refreshingly said since we're no longer in the business of replacing good players with ****e, it'll be a challenge to bring in comparable quality . In theory, we still havent replaced DMG, BWP, Stern, Euell -Lambo is as far as we've got. Hard to see what options if we currently have on the bench to change a game let alone have someone step in if there's an injury.
SuperSAINT Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 I'd say jump straight back in for the younger striker S-Clarke mentioned in his opening post. It'd be a huge ask for Patterson to play the full season.
The Fat Controller Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 I've got a feeling we will sign Sol Campbell, my reason for this is he is a free agent, probabaly lives in the area (within 40-50 miles), and has a bit of experience at Centre back. More importantly we can probabaly now afford to offer him a decent contract Who thought we'd have landed Lambert?

I think we can sleep soundly that if/when Rasiak does unfortunately go - we will replace him with as good a replacement as possible. I think Pard's is building a team that can take us through the leagues, rather than just 1 or 2 seasons. If you build around the likes of Morgan/Lallana/Harding/Lambert - then add 1 or 2 a season then you're always going to be improving.

Raziak will have to take a pay cut if he wants to move. I bet when push comes to shove a transfer fee plus his wage demands will put off CCC clubs. Saganowski probably the same. Why should we take a paltry offer from them just because it's lil' ole Swansea? They're a division above us and Rasiak has been a Premiership player as well as an International. We hold his contract and don't have to sell him because we're short of cash. It's not like the Dyer deal where we were desperate for money to stay afloat. We're not a charity and it is in our interests that teams above us who cannot afford to buy decent players, get relegated as part of the natural order. If they believe that Rasiak could score enough goals to secure their place in the division, then they had better pay an amount commensurate with the success he might bring them. The question is, would we be able to buy a player of his stature with the money we might get for him from somebody like Swansea? If not, then we might as well keep him, even though it's generally not a good idea to keep players who don't want to be here. But I suspect that Rasiak would understand that we ought not to let him go for peanuts and would stay and play with us if the manager had him as part of his plans. I think Pard's has been playing this deal down just to keep his profile low. It's been well known (Well from what i've been told anyway) that he's been training with the team and has been around staplewood for a few weeks. No one else has been rumored to be close to signing him, which means him and his agent must be keen to close the deal here. He really would be a cracking signing and backs up what Pard's said in his preview ''he wants to sign a CB that raises the game for the entire team...'' Professor Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Yea would raise the bar for thomas and perry, lets just hope and if he's been trianing with us then should fit in quickly In Wayne Thomas we already have £1m CB, and coming back after a year out injured, his return is the equivalent of a new signing. Thomas is aged 30, 14st and 6ft2 so a very dominant CB at the peak of his career. Perry, on the other hand is 36, 5ft9 and 11st. We do need another CB, not to raise the bar for Thomas but to pair with Wayne as the first choice pairing. Perry and Lancashire are the support. What AP said was (paraphrasing): 'If we are offerred the price we are looking to get, which may happen soon....' Of course, if nobody comes in a aceptable bid by the end of the month for Rasiak (or Saga for that matter) it need pointing out to them that have to cut the mustard and score the goals to stay in the team so that a better bid might be made in January which could then see them paying in the world Cup next year. Either way, if we use the money gained to buy a suitable replacement, we should be onto a winner.

I wonder what Pardew has in mind as the price we are looking to get? Personally, I would love for Swansea to make their feeble offer and have it rammed down their throats and told to either be realistic, or stop playing games. It rankles that they got Dyer for a relative pittance and here would be a chance to get something extra to compensate. As you say, if there are no serious offers, both Poles would have the best incentive to produce some goals to put themselves in the shop window for moving up before the World Cup. .comsaint Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Agree Wes. Swansea 'nicked' Dyer off us when we were down & out - not a brass h'apenny to scratch our arse with. Since then however - Mr L has come along & pumped a few quid into the coffers for Pardew to spend as he sees fit. We aren't desperate enough anymore to have to go cap-in-hand to Swansea in order to pay wages - so either pay the asking price for Raz of eff-off. For what it's worth - I don't think we should just 'give' Raz away - irrespective of whether he wants to go or not.

dune Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Rasiak played his part in our relegation. If he's not man enough to stick by us now then he can go **** himself. As Alan Pardew says we are a big club and it's not for him to pursuade players to stay. I agree. If Rasiak isn't 100% comitted then he's a hindrance to the team as a whole. Personally i think he's lazy and loves himself. A good player on his day, but he strikes me as being a mercenary. Lambert is a better player than Rasiak imo and he comes across as being more of a team player. We've signed him for £1 mil so Rasiak is not indespenseable, far from it.
