Pardew must go...

Mouldy Coat

....out and get a wing wizzard. Someone in the mould of Neil McCann or Stuart Ripley...ok seriously now, maybe not these one trick ponies but someone with pace on the wing.

What was evident last night was the Swindon player who looked remarkably like Nathan Dyer on the wing, caused us a lot of problems. Great signings Pardew to date, Harding looks a good player, Lambert - good player, Hammond - proven at this level.

Get a commanding centre half and then someone with a bit of craft, creatvity on the wing.

Everyone is concerned about our midfield options and too many central players, we really do need someone with pace.

Can't we get that Swindon player from last night, who was he?

How about Lee Holmes, or Kayne McLaggon when he's fit?

Award for the most misleading thread title of the year goes to...

I thought you were going to suggest a 'guest manager' situation for a second, like Have I Got News for You, a new manager each and every game. Interesting... :)

I think it's pretty obvious by now who we need. First and foremost, more than anything, is a CB!

The current team is nearly good enough, just needs confidence.

Lee holmes is going - well he is subject of enquires from clubs and we're considering them.... but McLaggon is a great option when fit

Hadn't heard that. He's had some great games for us ... but of course he's missed so many. Is he simply never going to be really fit, or does Pardew just not rate him? (as seems to be the case with Gillet).

I think you refer to Anthony McNamee. I saw him play for Watford against Cardiff City a couple of years back and thought he had pace but bu gger all else, but he certainly has developed and gave our boys problems all night.

Makes me wonder if the Pinaccle fiasco hadn't delayed our takeover, if there might have been a chance of persuading Dyer to stay because that kind of pace was sorely missed last night.

Whilst Holmes is a decent option and offers a good cross, I think the word "pace" was mentioned. Something he, Thompson, James and most of the squad seem to lack!

Thompson has pace

his problem is that he doesn't know how the **** to use it.

Thomson is one of the fastest players I've seen. And for those drooling over Macnamee, consider he was facing Lloyd James starting at Right Back for the first time since last season, and the defensive midfield support for him was... well... non-existent.

The problem is motivation and effort. It might be possible to get the current crop to realise it, but it might just require a clear out.

Swindon ran everywhere and closed everything down. We stood around and waited for everyone else to make a move. Bad teams react, good teams anticipate.

Thompson does NOT have pace. To use it, you need to run...quickly! He can't even put the ball past his man and beat the defender to the ball. Or, he puts it past, then gets a mediocre shoulder barge and pushed off the ball/falls over (like most of our young players).

Have you spent your time watching midget football or something?! To make the statement "Thomson is one of the fastest players I've seen..." is, frankly, absurd. Unless you truly have only watched over 60s football/Saga league or some sort of midget league in which players could look fast compared to say...a tortoise. Thompson constantly gets pushed off the ball or tries to round a player, failing to get back on to the ball in time (against slowish full backs - happened in the Hearts game amongst others).

Motivation and effort is a severe problem from the games I've seen. However, your natural pace doesn't drastically change all that much and we are known as having a squad without much pace. Simple as that. We ball watched, had no desire and were like statues but that's digressing. Thompson is slow, like many of our players. Worryingly, many of them are young so they should be at their peak for speed, slowing with age. Doesn't bode well.

The 9 & S-Clarke. I'm the doofus! I owe you both an apology after my sarky tirade. I got completely muddled with players & meant Joseph Mills the slow one (right wing), not Thompson. My bad! Too many kids. All blurs into one. Did think it strange with the quickest player comment. Sorry! *bows head*

Lee Holmes is a class act and definitely has the potential to play in the Premier League. However, he's had a bad time of it and Im' not even sure if he's fit enough yet. But when he is, oh yes, get him in at left wing.

Always liked Darren Currie, though he is getting on a bit now. Still, he's one of those timeless, leagueless players - he can probably still do it, like Holmes, in any league. He's another left winger.

Andy Robinson, Leeds - excellent right winger: tricky, combative and has an excellent shot. I would imagine he won't be going anywhere though.

Arron Davies, Notts Forest - goalscorer, pacey, tricky, out of favour at Forest. Ex-Saint who has so far semi-fulfilled his potential. Was excellent for Yeovil, if anyone remembers?

Others worth mentioning: David Martin (Millwall), Cleveland Taylor (Brentford), Jimmy Smith (L Orient), Gary Roberts (Huddersfield), Simon Whaley (now Norwich though :-(), Stuart Green and Matt Phillips (Wycombe), Jason Puncheon (Plymouth, now MK), Albert Adomoah (Barnet), Jeff Smith (Darlington), Le Fondre (can play ST too, Rochdale)

.... And whatever happened to Andy Welsh, ex-Sunderland winger? Always thought he looked quite useful.

Seem to recall McNamee played mostly on the right up against Harding, who frankly had him in his pocket for most of the game, given that he had little support from our MF. Unless I am mixing him up.

But all the evidence suggests Pardew doesn't want to play wide at all!!!!!

Everyone is crowded into the centre third of the pitch!

We should play Holmes or Gobern on the left and Lallana on the right.

Just my HO.

I think Gobern is capable of having a good season. McClaggon and Thomson are capable of having a big impact from the bench.

We need to sign another right winger as an alternative to Lallana and a speedy forward.

We also need at least one good centre back.

I'm pretty sure Pardew knows this and I'm putting last night's tactical patheticness down to a blip.

Was looking for a 2nd opinion could of been a one off ;).

I reckon he is just the type of winger we need, quick, skilful, can put in a good cross and is not shy of a tackle. Never seen him play before so I'm not the right person for a second opinion, but judging by the way he played against us I reckon he could definitely do a job!

should get fabrice out of retirement he was a legend

He certainly was legendary at running round in circles. Beating his man then giving him the chance to tackle by taking it round him again. Agree with the person that said Arron Davies. I think we are desperate for someone who is gonna hit the by-line and cross the ball back. I'm sure thats the sort of service Lambert would thrive on. Not sure if Davies is that player but would certainly be better than what we have at the mo

Problem was he kept on wanting to beat the same man - back and forward round & round ooopppss I've lost the ball!

Haha, criticising Fernandes. Have you not seen the dross we've had over the past three or four years?????????????

yes he could hold onto the ball, create many goals for beattie, and score a few himself...in the premier league. why on earth would we want him.

Sorry I think you'll find I was criticising the player when he played for us in the Premier League at a time when we had a strong side. Very quick to jump ship when things started to go bad and not heard from him since.

matt jansen had a horrible motorbike injury, and never recovered enough to be a good footballer again. Having lived in Derby I never rated Christie that much, though Chris Riggott was good, I played against him at schools level. I think Middlesborough has a bad effect on players (dont know if riggott is still playing anywhere though)
