SNSUN Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 Irrespective of which set of fans you think you come from, downbeat or keeping the faith, we have a welcome break from the League thanks to the League Cup. So what do you reckon of this game? I'm actually quite looking forward to testing the team against Prem opposition. I genuinely think they'll raise their game. Keep the first team in place, don't take the competition lightly, a win here could be a major confidence boost. My team would be: Davis Musty (or James if not fit) Thomas Trots Harding Mellis Hammond Morgan Lallana Lambert Saga I wouldn't play Paterson as i think one of the Poles could have more of an impact against Prem opposition. I couldn't possibly make a prediction, it's near impossible to predict, but i think'll it'll be closer than it is on paper.

derry Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 I read posts like this week in week out. Players are named in teams that have been injured, are long term injured or like Trotman not available as cup tied at Preston. Hopkins Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 Trotman is cup tied. So it will be Thomas and The Rash at the back. Have a feeling we will go 451. No idea who on the left but I have this little feeling Lallana will be playing off Lambert. Also got a feeling Wotton will play ahead of Morgan. No idea why. Just can see Wotton being stuck in there to kick the **** out of everyone and anyone to give us a chance. Hope I'm wrong though.

REALISTICALLY, a Div 1 Team is not expected to beat a Prem Team ........ and as we are not playing as a Team (YET) ......... I fear that (another) defeat will only sap the Team's confidence even more Hope I am wrong of course, but I think playing a Prem Team NOW is not quite the right time IMHO

West End Saint Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 As pointed out Trottman is cup tied which is a shame would be nice for us to get another game with all the new players to give them a chance to gel I think we should stop playing Lallana wide either go 1 up front with lallana in the hole (the only position he can play for me) or drop him to the bench. This is a game were we have nothing to lose everyone expects Brum to win easy so if they do so what but if we can turn them over it would help with confidence hope they take us lightly and play a weakened side who knows it is likely to be more of a footballing game nad we won against them last season playing the kids played very well as I remember so lets have a go at them and see what happens anything that can get our season up and running would be welcome. ExSt Peter Saint Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 I'd go for: Davis Murty Perry Thomas Harding Thomson Morgan Gillett Mills (if fit) Saga Lambert James in for Murty if not fit but then you need someone better at tracking than Thomson. I'd go for Gobern on the left if Mills and Holmes aren't fit. Lallana on the bench to come on for Saga if he's not doing well.

saint lard Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 Looking forward to this one,not overly confident of a positive result however. If,and i mean if, we were to win i think it may go someway to excorcising this lack of belief that we can secure a win,and instil some positivity throughout the playing staff. Posting a proposed team with two ineligible players shows they haven't been using the threads to gather information. My apologies for not knowing about the cup tied players, i'm greatly looking forward to every game at the moment and got carried away. That said, i don't have full internet access at the moment as i don't actually have the internet at all, i use my phone which is extremely limited in its usage and means bigger sites like the OS are inaccessible to me. Heck my phone bill has more than doubled since the Pinnacle proposal, as i eagerly log on to here to check out takeover updates and signings. In future i will wait until others have been ridiculed before i post, saving me from the embarrassment of having it done myself. I hope this makes things better. It wasn't you particularly but it amazes me the number of teams on the build up threads that include players that have had long term injuries such as McLaggon included last week who probably won't play until November and Mills who is still not match fit. It just appears that not a lot of thought is going into those favoured teams especially when the information is available here, on the OS and on the media sites. ART Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 One year ago Jan's nippers ran Birmingham off the park with a 2 nil win. It was definitely Jan's hour of glory. Interesting was the team he put out that night and the one that will play tomorrow night. Pardew better have a young rabbit or two to pull out of the bag. Jan's team selection August 2008 SOUTHAMPTON: Bialkowski; James; Thomas; Cork; Surman; Schneiderlin (John, 57); Gillett (Mills, 60); Wotton; Lallana; Holmes; McGoldrick. Subs: Forecast; Dyer; Lancashire; White; Wright-Phillips.
