Smirking_Saint Posted 9 October, 2009 Share Posted 9 October, 2009 Just goes to show that form is temporary !!!!!!!!!! I rated him, he had a bad season last year but confidence through the whole team was down, that also affected Surman and Morgan. It's a shame we lost Surman as i feel he could have come back to his best this year. I have been wanting to say this to the doubters too clarky

Just goes to show that the Orange Order who were supposed to be great at working with youth had no idea, as they managed to make Lallana look very poor (and indeed he was awful even this season against Swindon for instance). But when you get good coaches, such as AP/DW and NP working with him he can be very good.

He was awful, missed about 5 one on one's.. The only thing you can take blame for is that old mantra (which is one of my bugbears) is that youngsters will be inconsistent AND need help and coaching after they leave the Academy. He'll have bad games again soon and the naysayers will be out, but IF he has good parents and a good agent he WILL become a top player in the PL. Latheal Posted 9 October, 2009 Share Posted 9 October, 2009 Probably a bit bias as a love the kind of player is but you'll see I've always rated him as well - this is not a "I told you so" post but do feel English football kind of stagnates this kind of player. Absolutely delighted to see him doing well at the moment, he will have crap games where he disappears but that's the trade off - Jesus, didn't MLT and Gazza do the same thing (and no, I'm not putting him in that class)? To me, at this level, he's a match winner. Don't care if he does sweet fa for 89 minutes as long as he does something to win the game in that 1 min of magic. He may go in January and to be honest, fair play to him if he does but I think he'll stay until the end of the season just to get a full good season under his belt. On a similar rant, is nobody else ****ed off at the way we treat creative players in this country? Joe Cole was the last, truly, exceptional world class teenager we had. Remember being at Southampton Uni and had a West Ham fan in my flat. He used to say how they played 5 aside in training and as soon as Cole was put on the other side, Ian Wright would kick up a stink saying the sides were unfair. I remember watching him in some Intertoto cup match at 16 where he beat 6 players and put in a 30 yard effort - he was simply amazing. Then Sven and Mouriniho got hold of him and said stop dribbling. Can you imagine if he was Brazilian?
Justin C Posted 9 October, 2009 Share Posted 9 October, 2009 I think he is doing very well for us and i would like him to stay. However, everyone will slate him if leaves for the PL. But who would not if they get what could possibly be there only chancy to play in the top league. As much as i have supported saints all my life if I got offered to go to the PL I would think about it. I don't think it is about money, I think it would be a manager (i.e Mick Mc Carthy and Surman) saying you could play against manu arsenal ect. I really wish we that we don't slate young people that want to leave. But I think there is away to go about it, for example compare Crouch and beatie. All they need to say is come out say they are moving for the right reasons.

Bailey Posted 9 October, 2009 Share Posted 9 October, 2009 I make no apology for repeating this, and I'll say it again now. Along with Schneiderlin, Lallana is the most technically gifted player we have at the club. His first touch is superb and his ability on the ball is second-to-none. Credit to Pardew and the rest of the management team for playing Lallana in his strongest position and building the team around him. He's a real flair player who can create, score goals and cause a lot of problems for the oppo. He's a proper number 10 who is finally starting to make a real impact at Saints, and long may it continue! Lets hope we can fend off any interest that may be forthcoming in the January transfer window.

We're at the very least 2 more likely 4 or more seasons away from a possible return to the EPL (if at all I must stress) so to ask a young player who may well be in the process of reaching that standard already to wait until he's 25/26 before achieving that full potential is too much to ask in my opinion . Like a loving parent blessed with a gifted child sometimes you just have to let them 'fly' away and fulfill their destiny however much you yearn to keep them close . The harsh facts of football life are that you can't hold them back in the modern game anyway , even if you were selfish enough to try .

Pleased to see him finding the net so often. His parents are very proud. ...as well they should be, (I would) ...Adam shows great promise. It's very difficult to make judgments on younger players, when they've only played a handful of games. I recall many players from yester-year who took time to adjust. Mick Channon scored an important goal in 1966 promotion season, but didn't get a real look-in till 18 months later. Likewise the many who recall 18 year old Alan Shearer's Dell hat-trick v.Arsenal (1988) may also recall it took him two seasons more before being regular, and he was really only "super-quality" in his last season before moving to Blackburn. Adam has hit a good patch, and if he's half the player we all hope for, he'll improve. As for moving clubs, he may take AP's advice and avoid transfers to (London clubs)... where he will only grace their Reserves, or get occasional bench spot. Hopefully he will play Premiership football in the future - with Saints, and for once we can tell those North London yobbos (one statement I liked RL for) ...where to stick their money....as Markus Leibherr doesn't need it to retain his liquidity. rallyboy Posted 10 October, 2009 Share Posted 10 October, 2009 no one needs to apologise for pointing out the fact that he was well below par last season but like all the tiresome recent history that's a different country now and should be left there, great to see him back to the player we all hoped he could be. If Surman had stayed and got back to his best as well we would be mighty formidable, there might be a career lesson in there somewhere.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 10 October, 2009 Share Posted 10 October, 2009 This is something i have said and agree with........... however, with his performances and goals it may just be worth the risk Indeed, it's always been a bit of a mystery of how to accomodate him best. He doesn't offer enough of an all-round game to be played in a normal central midfield role, but he plays too central to be a winger. Looks like AP is developing a good system though, it almost sounds like when we attack it's a 4-3-3 with Lallana on the left, Rickie in the middle and Papa on the right. At least when Lallana cuts inside we've got an overlapping fullback in Dan Harding.
Legod Third Coming Posted 10 October, 2009 Share Posted 10 October, 2009 You cannot be serious? No, I'm not, I was being sarcastic because from day one people criticised Pardew for his reliance on having Lallana in the team and have bleated constantly about us having no width for which they blame Lallana. I suspect we had as little width against Southend as we did against Gillingham - two games in which we scored seven goals and hit the woodwork and missed handfuls of sitters. I don't recall any of those magical bye-line crosses we so desperately needed? How strange... Now Lallana is scoring goals in a system that works for the players we have/have puchased, the manager has apparently 'turned Lallana around' or 'turned results around'. Niether of which hold water. The manager has done a good job of assessing the squad, working out their best positions, buying players to address weaknesses and training to remove our most common faults. Lallana always was a brilliant, technical footballer played out of position in failed systems. I genuinely haven't seen him do any better this season than last. Last season he was wasted in a team of losers probably working harder than he is this season. But now we have a manager who knows what to do with him!
