Kevin Lisbie - "I'd love to sign"

Kevin Lisbie told the Echo last night that a permanent transfer to Saints would appeal to him.

Asked if he would be interested in joining Saints, Lisbie said "Very much so. If they (Saints) are interested I am only on loan at Colchester, so obviously anything is possible".

i like him, i think he's the perfect player to compliment/play off lambert.

Not sure Ricky needs anyone to compl-I-ment him LOL

And seriously what we need is maybe someone who could cover for him if he's injured, not just complement him when he is playing.

For what it's worth Solent this morning quoted Pardew as dismissing the speculation, saying Lisbie was 'just a friend'

posted about solent at same time, I didn't think he was dismissing it at all - more adding to it!

I'm 100% certain he wasn't dismissing the deal.... He did say about them being friends, but he also said he wouldn't comment on it. Very good chance of this happening, i feel.

Would love us to sign Lisbie. My mate supports Colu so it would hack him off.

Lisbie, although 31, is still a good striker at this level. He has scored 10 so far this season and my friend says he doesnt always play either. Would work well as a little and large with Lambert too but I agree with Ken's comment below...

Another big lump of a striker (I appreciate Lambert is a hell of a lot more than just a big lump) would be a good option.

But to have the choice of a strike force of Lambert, Connelly, Lisbie, Saga, Pato & potentially Waigo (can be used as cover for strikers) would be immense.

Lisbie is a bit of a poor mans Peter Crouch in that for several years he was much maligned by supporters of clubs he played for.Think one club, either Palace or Charlton - possibly even Wimbledon,he has been around that long - had T-shirts of "I've seen Lisbie score" made.

There is no other Crouch comparison though and I'm not sure what Lisbie would offer us.

Would be what we need upfront, Lisbie has always reminded me of a more physical version of Stern John. I feel quite sorry for Lambert playing in EVERY game and still think against MK Dons in the second leg at home we should rest Lambert and play Paterson upfront.

Erm, NO.

And to answer my own point, I read somewhere that Antonio actually sees himself as a striker rather than a winger. Might work quite well one day when he's got more savvy. He's big and strong enough.

I've nothing against Lisbie (other than that he always seems to play well against us!) but isn't he another Connolly really?

If we could potentially get Barnard for just 200k why waste our time looking at a 31 year old fairly average striker?

I just think we're past the point of buying 'stop-gaps' and might as well look to buy players that are either going to able to stay with us for the long term or at least have a profitable resell value.

I mean look at Lambert, some people said a million is a lot to spend on a League One player but just a few months down the line and already he would pull in at least 500k profit were we to sell. That's good business sense.

Didn't he play under Pardew at Charlton?

I reckon he could be a very good signing at this level from what I remember of him.

and west ham I think

Lisbie has never played for West Ham.

apologies meant Reading - played on loan under Pardew there, so played for him at two clubs

I posted this on the transfer thread about Lisbie yesterday.

His pace and strength were the only things that stopped us overwhelming Colchester at St Marys, which cost us the win, especially when Izzet had been sent off. I remember him winning the ball off of one of our players just outside their penalty area during the game, and laying it off to the keeper and then bombing off down the wing to receive the ball from the goalkeepers kick deep in our half, all within a few seconds. He was a thorn in our side that day and came closest to scoring on either team with that great shot from the angle which hit Kelvin's crossbar. With the better service he'll get here, I think he'll score at a better rate for us, but he woud also not only be a good foil for Rickie but in my view has the strength to play Rickie's role when needed, and could work well with both Connolly and Papa. He is also available to play in the JPT as he didn't play in Colchesters JPT loss at Gillingham.

I think he would make an excellent addition to our squad.

Well that is at least an opinion from someone who has seen him play.

Spoke to a Charlton mate and he told me Lisbie once scored a hat-trick against Liverpool, for them. I looked it up and he did (back in Sept 03)! He said he was quick but a little hit and miss for them.

I guess if Lisbie has had reasonable success in the Prem and has good top flight experience, he'd be a good acquisition for any 3rd tier side.

I think Lambert will get a rest when it's mathematically impossible for us to get in the play offs.

He is one of those players that wants to play each game and will always give at least a 7 out of 10.

We should be concentrating on safety. If you look at the table we are only a few points off the relegation zone.

It's just occurred to me that another Ward/Seaborne situation could be developing here. We're monitoring (at least) two forwards: Lisbie is interested (like Ward)' date=' but may turn out to be the back-up deal if we can't get Barnard (Seaborne).[/quote']

Was thinking the same thing

Here's something from the Sky Sports Transfer Centre thing about Kevin Lisbie joining Saints:11.26 Ipswich striker Kevin Lisbie, who is currently on loan at Colchester United, has admitted he would be interested in a move to Southampton.

I am not saying that this is True but this is coming from Sky Sports which hardly get things wrong but we will see ;)!

COYR!
