StuRomseySaint Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 Will the skates be around when they are due to play us? The winding-up petition is due a few days before and I notice that 2 other creditors have attached themselves to the winding-up petition. This could well be the start of the end for the blue few, even their website has been taken offline due to non-payment. ( That's going to make their ticket selling mighty awkward ) Would you prefer them go bust before and we get a bye, get beat by us then go bust the next day or find a buyer and get beat by us? Turkish Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 find a buyer and get beat by us. I dont want them to go bust, just suffer as slow, painful descent back to their natural position of being a league below us as possible. I want them to feel as much pain as possible, to really, really hurt but not to die. Just to keep stuttering on, in their **** little stadium, in their **** little city with their **** little fans. StuRomseySaint Posted 28 January, 2010 Author Share Posted 28 January, 2010 The more I look in to their situation, the more I think there is a real possibility that Portsmouth might not exist as a football club by the time we play them. Oh well. Who does everyone want in the 6th round? I would like an easy home draw, we are only one win away from Wembley, so we gotta start thinking about that. JRM Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 I don't understand this at all. has the website being down got anything to do with non-payment? Who are the other creditors attached to the winding up order? and how does this add up with them having the embargo lifted ????? Are the next wages due tomorrow? Surely if these are not met the FA will have a lot to answer for , the embargo should still be in place. surprised they have not sold more players so far. The Kraken Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 They could be in huge trouble even before then; if they fail to pay their players on time this month hte players are entitled to give 14 days notice and then sign as free agents for other clubs. StuRomseySaint Posted 28 January, 2010 Author Share Posted 28 January, 2010 it depends if they find a buyer of course. Why on earth would anyone buy a business in that state with absolutely zero chance of running at a profit in the next 10 years. It won't happen. I would say it's 50/50 whether they survive at the moment. Their best and only hope will be one of the other creditors putting them into to administration, then they 'might' find a buyer. They seem to have p!ssed quite a few creditors off going around buying players instead of paying bills, so expect more to jump in on the winding-up petition. St Landrew Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 We've had this question, and a poll on it, before Stu, only weeks ago. Most people would rather Pompey go nto administration, as they almost certainly will, get themselves relegated, as they almost certainly will anyway, and live to fight another day. With at least 3 creditors now applying for them to be wound up, there is a very real chance they won't be in business by the time our fixture comes along. I dont understand how they can be so much in the crap and still not be in administration though. We were no-where near the state they are now in and the bank pulled the plug and we went into admin the same day. Is it because they are in the prem and the FA are keeping the banks off there back as they dont want a prem club to fall? Or is there enough proof to suggest there is money tucked away somewhere by this arab market stall owner and its just a case of releasing it? To answer the question though, I dont want them to go pop or if they do I would like them to come back as a new club some how. Just look at the excitement the FA cup draw has created to see how much derby matches mean to us. With them gone our derby match would be with bornmouth which doesnt carry the same level of interest. Nice to see them suffer and will be much better when we are back on top but would be a shame to see them gone.

Mister Neil Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 Can't understand why any players would sign for them if they are not going to get paid! Was thinking about this last night. If loan players were to be paid (either all or most of the monthly salary) by the lending club, ie the lending club were doing it for the benefit of the player to give them first team experience, then it's reasonable to expect any player who is not getting a regular start would go. However, if Portsmouth have to pay (most if not all the salary due to) the player (which I believe to be the norm) then the only reason that I can think of would be to put the player in the 'shop window' for next season. It must be depressing being a skate right now!
JRM Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 serious question - tickets for the cup game on the 13th, we've sent them 4k tickets at £28 a go which we are trusting them to sell to their fan base, at what point does Portsmouth Football club have to hand that cash over to Southampton football club for those sales? Do we also become a creditor?
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 All this talk about us getting a bye if they go out of business- I was talking to some Sunderland fans on Monday and they claimed that if Pompey go bust, Sunderland go through to the next round and therefore we have to play them instead. VectisSaint Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 I don't think for one minute that Pompey will be out of business before thr Cup match. They may be in administration but thats different. Even if the winding up order is agreed, there is an appeals process that will prolong the matter. oxfordshire_saint Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 It's a joke, how were they able to sign Quincy Owusu-Abeyie on loan yesterday if they're not going to pay any of their staff tomorrow? I know the embargo was down to them having not paid transfer installments due to other clubs, but surely if you can't pay your current players (or even the web administators!) then you shouldn't be allowed to add to that squad? WhitmonSaint Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 It's difficult to say on the website cost thing. Someone mentioned that Pompey's ticket sales were done on another website, so if they didn't need secure servers to do things like process payments for tickets then it would cost less than if they did it themselves. They may have employed a couple of members of staff to maintain their website. However, they wouldn't take their own website offline - even if they were in administration. It's more likely that they pay a company to host and maintain their website and due to non-payment, this hosting company has pulled the plug - and rightly so, clients not paying is a right pain in the Gary. Pay up Pompey, Pompey pay up!
