Lloyd James

A very average player who I was glad to see the back of to be honnest. He is an average stop gap in many solutions, but I can't say he ever really looked good in any of them. We have better RBs and midfielders in our squad and we wouldn't be playing any better with James in the side.

Sadly he will get boo'd tomorrow if he does come on, because the majority of our fanbase is too fickle to actually realise when a player is giving a 100% for the shirt.

He was never anywhere near as bad as people made out either, considering the options we have at the moment I would much rather we kept him for another season.

Yep, this. Good player who always gave his all and was one of our best crossers of the ball. But fans didn't rate him and he will probably go the same way as other boo boys such as Kenwyne Jones, Ricardo Fuller, Rory Delap And Kevin Davies

... Jay Lucas, Craig Richards, Leandre Griffit ...

lloyd was at the Brizol Rovers game with Saints fans and a couple of mates in the tent at the end. Always gave 100% and from that still has affection for the club. He left before the end and had a quick word with Alex who was warming up. Guy should get a positive reception. Note he was top Saints player delivering crosses last season.

James's delivery was almost always woeful.

This seems to be one the sticking points when people would bash James, but I remember watching take corners for us last season, and on several occasions we actually scored from them, something that we have not looked like doing for ages before and since, likewise the same thing with wide free kicks, and you can't possibly say that our corners and wide free kicks are any better now.

Ironic really...James considered surplus to requirements, better than most in our team, Gillet deemed not good enough but starts every week for a top 7 Championship team whilst we are stuck in bottom 4 of League 1 and we're stuck with the c**p that was Pardew's pet (Hammond).

Oh how we could use a player who can deliver the ball from wide and a tigerish central midefielder who never gives up chases everything and gets stuck in. Tell me again why we let James and Gillett go in the summer?

Tell me again when you saw James deliver any kind of cross that beat the first man in the last 18 months?

Those saying James can't cross the ball should look at the number of assists he got for us last season.

He always tried to cross from just over the halfway line so the forwards were usually getting very poor service, if the ball actually reached them. I can't remember many assists? Defensively his postioning was very poor and he was also very slow. I can never forgive him for giving away that penalty.

7 assists from the guy that took most of our set pieces isn't all that impressive.

I'll struggle to forget the trip to Oldham last season when he just jogged casually back towards our goal as an Oldham player ran past him and scored. That, the Norwich penalty and several other instances of being too slow and or short have lead me to the conclusion that he isn't good enough.

I'll go with that

What a load of ********! Of course he is a very good player otherwise why would he be picked for Wales u-21's? Have you ever seen him play?

Not sure why I'm responding to such a stupid argument but...

Wales the 84th best footballing nation in the world, just behind Botswana. A quick glance through their U-21 squad on wiki reveals players from footballing giants Wrexham, Rotherham and Kidderminster. Sorry, but that level of quality just doesn't guarantee a possition in Saints first team IMO.

He took most of our set pieces for about a 5-6 month period. First ten games where Lallana = very poor service, then up until January it was Lloyd James = half decent set pieces, then he was out injured for the rest of the season.

Lets not forget he also got a couple of very important goals, the first against Exeter and equaliser against Brentford. Shame he got injured in that match when he was just starting to get a run of games in the middle.

He wasn't perfect by any means, too slow and not really tall enough to dominate wingers/strikers, but he gets far too much stick on here which IMO is down to the fact he's an easy target after the Dutch era...

I think he was played out of position at RB which was not really fair to him. In midfield he sometimes looked a lot better. Let's see how he gets on at other clubs before we pass final judgment.

Agree to differ! He was never going to the best RB due to lack of pace, a lack of positional awareness and a lack of a decent tackle but despite these obvious limitations he regularly DAJFU in that position, and on that basis I'm not sure Otsemobore was very much of an improvement. I never really saw him play particularly effectively in CM and saw him have some complete mares in that position (Leeds away was one). As others have said he had a decent delivery from a set piece and that is a specialism every side needs (how many corners have we wasted/hit straight out of play so far this season?).

Given all that he was an honest jobbing professional who was clearly committed to the cause, who improved massively over 18 months, and who the other players clearly respected, and who it was often commented on that the results seemed to go up in down in relation as to whether he was playing or not.

He was clearly not (yet?) good enough for the 'next level' (nor are we at the moment!) and he was probably not good enough to be a regular starter in our full-on 1st X1 but he def is/was good enough to be a squad player in this league. I would have kept him for one more season, he prob wasn't on big money and would be a versatile option from the bench, in terms of where he could directly come on and DAJFU or where he could come on and free-up other different players for the tactical switches that NA appears to want to employ.
