Viking Warrior Posted 4 October, 2010 Share Posted 4 October, 2010 Well done kevin. It was a real shame we never kept hold of you and that a particular manager of ours had no faith in you. Gemmel Posted 4 October, 2010 Share Posted 4 October, 2010 Absolutely deserved and earnt. For those that are saying we shouldnt have let he go, he was in a right mess and playing awfullly. It was the right thing for him and the club and all credit to him for turning it around.

Junction 9 Posted 4 October, 2010 Share Posted 4 October, 2010 Is that what preparing the England team for the Euros is about now? Giving servants of football "recognition"? He won't be taken to the tournament so this is a waste of time, nothing at all against the fella but I'm sure he's thinking the same.
Graffito Posted 4 October, 2010 Share Posted 4 October, 2010 Kevin Davies' performances at Bolton have proved Strachan was wrong about him. For a "midfield player" he turned out to be a pretty good striker. I'm pleased he's been recognised by England. It will be interesting to see how his robust style goes down with international referees.

Arizona Posted 5 October, 2010 Share Posted 5 October, 2010 Fully deserved, although you can hardly say it was a mistake releasing him. He looked lazy and overwreight and was probably on big wages. Add to that he only scored 5 goals in his last 2 years at Saints and it really was a sensible decision at the time. Agree about Heskey too. Useless donkey. How on Earth can successive England managers see something in him. How he kept Beatts out of the England team in 03 I'll never know.
Ken Tone Posted 5 October, 2010 Share Posted 5 October, 2010 I remember being devastated when we sold him (for £7 million?) and said at the time "it may seem a lot of money now,but when he's playing regularly for england as the striker alongside shearer we'll regret it" Ah well, I was nearly right ! ART Posted 5 October, 2010 Share Posted 5 October, 2010 Nothing gives me more happiness than to see big Kev prove them all wrong. There have been few players across my lifetime that I've believed in than Kevin Davies. It broke my heart when he finally parted company with the club, a club that he genuinely loved. Everyone goes through hard times in life, but few were so abused and rejected at a time Kevin was crying out for our backing. When people like Matt Le Tissier lay their reputation on the line and back Kevin, a few more people show have rallied round and give the guy a break. Well done Kevin. Now go on and show everyone what England's been missing all these years. And just to end I'd like to say I hope that Keving will one day make it 3rd time lucky and return to end his career getting this club back into the Premiership

Art, KD's head was screwed, he had to move on and credit to him finding a way back, but he wasnt prepared or in a position to commit to the team in the way that WGS wanted. His performances reflected that and he was of no use to us at all. The best thing for all concerned was to release him. I echo your congratulations and in his earlier Saints days his talent was there for all to see, but your doing the club a diservice if you think he was let down. I echo your congratulations and in his earlier Saints days his talent was there for all to see, but your doing the club a diservice if you think he was let down. I'd say it was Strachan's head that was screwed. I think most of Celtic's supporters would agree with me. From 2 games before the Cup Final onwards, it was all downhill for the team, the players. Strachan turned the team into headless/Spineless chickens. In my books Strachan had a huge role to play in what happened to the Saints in the next few seasons. Kevin only needed a couple of months in the sun before Sam Alladyce gave him back his confidence, the one thing that Matt LeTissier very clearly stated was the only thing between Davies at the time and becoming a great player. Matt was 100% right and it's also to Matt I'll be turning for backing Kevin and knowing he would one day make it again. Strachan's screwed many a players head. He's made nobody's believe they played like Zidane and star players think they couldn't kick a ball.
