What's he up to this season?

 

Last night was just the sort of game that was made for him to come on and break the deadlock. Wish we'd have kept hold of him.

 

Last night was just the sort of game I wouldn't want Papa Waigo anywhere near. We were clearly playing a very tactical, defend from the front type of game. Guly came on and just picked up what Barnard had been doing no problem. Papa Waigo would've come on and shown zero intelligence as per usual and ruined the gameplan.

 

Anyway, to answer your question, he's back with Fiorentina and he's made one substitute appearance where he played 22 minutes, and completed 7 of 9 passes. He had 1 shot, which was on target, and 1 cross which did not find a teammate. He made two tackles, won one, lost one. He got caught in possession once, and Fiorentina lost the game he played in. No stats on this, but considering he played 22 minutes, I'm assuming he was offside at least 10 times.

which all begs the question as to why he didnt stay with us - I think he was a valuable member of the squad, not necessarily first 11 - but was a real impact sub. Who knows how he would have played yesterday if we had ben able to bring him on for the last 30 mins? On a good night, he would have added the energy and direct running which AOC didnt have yeterday, and his worst he would have been offside 5 times . I personally thought he got better for us as the season went on - and is still a big miss.

I think you mean that AOC ran out of energy when he got cramp. He was doing pretty well up to then (despite having two markers).

 

I also wish we could resign Papa. He always was fast and direct and frequently got into the box to score despite rarely starting. His special ability is being alert, quick on his feet and able to turn sharply, which is why many of his goals were scrambled in tight melees. Exactly what we wee missing against Brighton.

I know he's not coming back, but I'd still give my left testicle (the droopy one) to re-sign Antonio. (The fact that we won't get him mean my bollock is safe, but it's a price worth paying to see him back here.)

 

Stupid Reading.

 

Another player who's stock has SOARED now he is not in the team.

 

Oxo is a lot better than Antonio will ever dream to be already.

 

If we got him for under 500k i would have him, but any more is foolish.

Rubbish.This was overplayed by the media at the time,and continues to be. It was a poor header,weak and without real direction. Davies or Beattie,possibly an inform Lambert would have burried it. I accept heading was not really one of Waigo's strengths but lets not overplay James save.

 

As for PW,I'd have him back in a shot.

What scoring more than the opposition? If you want to blame some one for the pompey loss prehaps it should be James for making some top class saves, or our defence for being to old and unable to keep up with the blistering pace of the pompey front men. The idea that Papa is in some way responsible for us losing to a team to divisions higher than us at the time is a bit silly really

Oh Papa Waigo... He's always offside! I would love him back if only for the chant.

 

On a serious note though, he would give us another much needed wide option, especially with Holmes constantly picking up injuries and the risk of over playing Chamberlain.

If Cortese wants him and Adkins is convinced of his value to us, it wouldn't surprise me if they buy him. Now that Pardew is gone he might change his mind about wanting to play for us again.

 

wouldn't surprise me. He wasn't happiest in his time here as AP didn't seem to rate him.

Ricky (God bless him ) isn't a patch on his former self and we need some big alternative front men who can put themselves about..

 

Latest (agent) chat suggests that he is a pawn in a political game between clubs / directors / and Owners ?..

might solve a of of short term problems if we get a second chance with him ...

I was surprised to know that he was Markus's favourite player. I rated him as well, but we didn't have the game for him then, and we don't have now. He belongs on the right hand side of a front three in a 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation. From there he can also bob up in the goalmouth for his little cameos. He could score goals. Since NC has said no, and that Fiorentina would want too much money for him I think we have to realise that he won't be coming back. And let's not forget all the moaning about him.

It could be that Fiorentina think there is interest out thereand are trying to auction him, but not playing him isn't going to help get a big fee for him. If we are the only bidders, along with our ability to write a cheque out, providing Nigel Adkins is convinced, it could be that we would become a possibility. His agent is obviously trying to get him a new club and I suspect he is talking to us. He would be a great signing even with a right sided 4-4-2 in mind.

I thought he also had a cracking game at left midfield at home to MK Dons - he never gave a pass away and his pace down the left caused them problems. Playing deeper meant he wasnt always offside either ;-)

We may have negotiated a good price at the time he came here, but with the Premiership interested, whether true or not, and if NC doesn't consider him a regular starter, then what they would like to get for him might not make financial sense.

 

You know what I think of him, Dave, so if he turned up, with NA's blessing, I'd be delighted.

I think that the writer mixed up N'Doye with N'Daye. I think he would be exchanging one bench for another. With us if Adkins rated him he would be playing and that would be all important.
