Would you be happy with this window if..

Chaplow signed

Guly signed

Lallana contract extension

Puncheon / Ox-C stay.

I would. If we lose the bottom two would at least expect them to be replaced but apart from that would see above as a very good window - anything else a bonus.

Way we are scoring from several players, including those coming off the bench, shows there is no shortage of fire power. The rotation for Blackpool was impressive.

Yes, I would be happy with that. Any improvements needed for the squad to progress can be made in the summer when we have more time and probably a larger budget. The squad we have now is more than adequate to get automatic promotion, and that's what we're headed for at the moment.

I would accept that scenario, but as well as Guly is doing at the moment, he's not a striker. With Connolly made of glass, we must bring in a striker.

Oh, and for me, Punch will leave, so a new winger too.

why isn't Guly a striker?

haven't we had this theme... several times before Nick ?

I'm not dis-satisfied so far, but we do need extra cover in midfield, when Puncheon eventually goes,

and another striker for good measure. We're still only 50% way through the season and a lot can happen before May.

I can recall a time a few seasons ago, when we had SIX injured central defenders...and when we signed Brett Ormerod, he was the only half-fit striker of the four we had on the books at the time (we had to use Jo Tessem as an emergency CF)

TWO more players please Nicola..then if we can't get up with that squad then we don't deserve to go up .

Theres a very fine line between strengthening the squad and spending for the sake of it .... theres also a very fine line between strengthening and upsetting the balance ...personally at the moment I think if we were to make more than about 1 more signing we would possibly upset the balance ...which nobody wants!

We have two big bids in but Nicola Cortese won't be held to ransome. Get those in and lose nobody we are nicely placed. Puncheon needs a three position quick goalscorer to replace him and it would be madness to let Chamberlain go without a complete replacement. It seems Millwall and Blackpool think they can steal him, well, as we have no need of the money, and as we are also clearing £500k+ from the Utd game they are living in cloud cuckoo land.

With several clubs still breathing down our neck and with us having played more home games than away games, I still think we should consider opting for quality signings if they become available. You can never have too many good players, especially in these days of squad rotation. A long term injury to the likes of Lallana or Chaplow could still stop 'the bus'!

We should only ever buy players better than those we have.

Right now we have the best squad in the league.

So it would take one hell of a signing to make it worthwhile...

agree. Much better than we have, or youngster with future potential. Can't see any holes in either first 11 or back up.

No I wouldnt because this is an oppportunity to get two or maybe three players into the club now ready for next season. NA has integrated Chappers and Guly no problem whatsoever so two or three more will be fine.

They should be better than we have though, and a striker for me is paramount. I know we look strong right now but we werent just 5 or 6 weeks ago and one or two injuries or suspensions to Lambert/Guly/Barnard and although the starting XI may still be ok, Championship winning teams are so because of the options they have in the squad and therefore the bench.

Another CM for exactly the same reasons and as he wants to go maybe we should put in an offer for Lewis, P'Boros keeper.

If Punch stays cool...but if he goes maybe a loanee young winger....Andros Townsend perhaps?!!

Was it really necessary to start another thread for the same issue ? Especially as a mod locked it.

You really love the sound of your own voice, dont you ?

If that was the outcome (eg keeping AL / AOC / Guly / Puncheon) then I think all fans would (should!) be 'delighted' - I certainly would be!

LOL at the comments 'Guly's not a striker'; no he's not, he's a 'footballer'! HCDAJFU in half a dozen different roles, including scoring five in four games (or what ever it is).

Not sure where a new striker would play without upsetting what we already have? RL seems to be back near to his best, Guly's on fire, and Barnard's battling for a place, with Connolly behind that and the midfielders contributing what level of striker would we have to sign to improve on 18 goals in four games?

Probably won't happen in a window but longer-term we need the next level of keeper, I think KD has been a great servant and Bart does a decent job when he comes in, but Smithies (Huddersfield) or Murphy (Scunny) would be better long term bets than what we have.

Let's keep the team spirit that NA has undoubtedly built and then strengthen significantly after we are promoted.

lol Oh the irony...

I dont start new threads when an old one has been locked.

Personally, I find the whole notion of trying to get everyone to say "yes, you are so right, the squad is so great and needs no strengthening at all to get promoted" like some sort of beaten-out signed confession from a police cell in a Banana Republic quite pathetic.

Anyway, to deal with the subject material (yet again)...

Puncheon is not definitely staying, and Connolly is a broken-down horse but was on the bench on Tuesday. That bench looked thin anyway, so no, I would not be happy if that is it. And seeing as NA and NC have made "subtantial bids" it seems safe to conclude that would also not be happy.

If Puncheon goes (and possibly Ox-C) and we are lacking wide options. Judging purely how squad is now think it is ok.

In 4 out the last 5 games a sub has come on and scored -which shows we have the strength in depth.

Is Connolly a broken down horse? Or maybe a quality forward who is only our 4th choice and therefore not needed? Clearly has his injury problems, would hope as he is on bench fit but who knows.

Adkins has clearly said that this squad is good enough to win this league and with no additions he fully expects to. Whether that is bullsh1t I din't know.

If we can sign a top player or two (or young prospects for the future) it clearly can only help for this season and next.

Still happy as we stand.

No, he is wrong, we need to strengthen. I read that we did on here.

Not sure that Dany is going to make the difference. He's big and tough but didn't really get an opportunity to show what he can do. Will toughen up the squad, but my feeling is that he is not the goal scorer we need. My fear is that teams have wised up to Lambert, Barnard and Oxo, and know how to crowd them out. Now even more so. So we need someone like CMS who is hot scoring atmo. His club have turned down 1.5 mill but we have only offered one million. We have to get this man as he seems to be te only one available at the right price right now. Our rivals have strengthened where they need, and so must we. Otherwise I fear a succession of frustrating draws in the weeks ahead.

What I like about N'Guessan is sounds the pacy strong impact sub we have spoken about.

Also like it that Brighton fans were keen to get him - he sounds better than Antonio did.

We have more than replaced Papa and Antonio with two better players in Guly and Ox-C.

Looking like (unless any last minute surprises) we have kept all of our quality and added some impact subs / cover.

Squad last season in the second half of season would have been good enough to take us up - this is much stronger.

I've said all along this side needs pace, its the only thing missing - its the reason we occassionally struggle to get behind defensive teams (yes I know Ox has pace but he is 17 and has quiet games about 1 in 4 - its normal)

We've now got 2 players who have pace, no idea if they can kick a football, but I only ever asked for pace!
