Give it to Ron Posted 11 April, 2011 Share Posted 11 April, 2011 kills me at the moment ...now we are that close to getting over the line. After the Charlton game where we looked so confident and Saturdays great result to fail now would be a disaster - we have a good squad, the crowd is excellant and we have recovered from the Pardew troubles. Where can I get a backbone, new knuckles and finger nails for the last 7 games? ;-)

Thedelldays Posted 11 April, 2011 Share Posted 11 April, 2011 we are now in a position where we can lose tomorrow and still stay 2nd......to be followed up be SHOULD WIN home game on sat...... IMO we need 12 more points.......that is taking into account Posh win every game and Hudders win all their games and lose one (say brighton or MK dons away).... even then, that would be a big ask for them both it would take a massive dip in form for us to blow this now.......12 points from 21....that is a big margin of error.....and this is now a team that has some real determination, character and will to win...plus, some wont like it...we have a manager who CLEARLY can make changes as the game goes to seal points... beatlesaint Posted 11 April, 2011 Share Posted 11 April, 2011 kills me at the moment ...now we are that close to getting over the line. I know, I just want this season to be over ASAP with us sat 2nd in the league !! I must say though delldays has summed it up for me, exactly what we need, the big margin of error....I know he is probably right but I wont relax until its confirmed. Hamilton Saint Posted 11 April, 2011 Share Posted 11 April, 2011 Relax. Enjoy the run-in. I have to say that I've felt very confident about the situation for at least two or three months now. I anticipate a win now every time we're on the pitch. (Amazing, isn't it?!) Have to say that Adkins really does inspire belief in our success. Good to be a Saint! Turkish Posted 11 April, 2011 Share Posted 11 April, 2011 Our last 4 wins have all be very different, up until about Feb we were fine if we got an early goal and went onto steam roller teams but when we had to dig in and grind out a result we frequently came up short. Sheff Wed was a case of being patient and breaking them down, MK Dons, terrific spirt to come back from two down, Charlton was comfortable and Orient we defended really well and looked so solid, despite them having more of the game in the second half they were always at arms length and never looked like scoring. That for me has been the most impressive thing about our performances of late, the team look confident and controlled. I had a bit of a rant after the Wallsall game where i doubted the bottle and fight in our side, but they have shown they have it in ubundance the last few weeks. We are there at the moment but we are on a great run, playing with confidence and control, it's great to see it.

I agree with that DD. 12 points from 21 is actually a dip in form too.....so if we continue as we have done since Christmas i'd say we'll prob get around 17-19 points. Yes jamie, on paper we have 3 home bankers, and you'd fancy us to get something from Brentford who will have nothing to play for and Plymouth who will probably be down by then, a win and a draw IMO, that'll give us 13 points. Huddersfield would need to win every game to overtake us given our better goal difference.
Tom & Gerry Posted 11 April, 2011 Share Posted 11 April, 2011 I know everything is going well and 12 points should do it but we've got to get them and I think we will but no Chamberlain, Lallana half fit, no back up in central midfield, what team will we be able to put out against Hartlepool 2 days after Brighton. I can't be calm and relaxed until we've crossed the line.

Turkish Posted 11 April, 2011 Share Posted 11 April, 2011 What team will hartlepool be able to put out against us three days after they play Tranmere? They'll have players playing twice in 3 days as well you know and we obviously have a bigger and better squad than them.

Give it to Ron Posted 11 April, 2011 Author Share Posted 11 April, 2011 Thanks guys was expecting a lot worse. You see I have been a fan for a very long time and seen many lows and a few highs but this year...I only really started to get that feeling after Charlton as we showed then we can be solid, stable and comfortable. I just hope tomorrow is not another low... This is Saints we don't do easy ;-)

I can't imagine the agony they are going through at the moment, knowing that if they don't go up their loan shark owner will probably pull the plug, and their club could well fold. Even though they've cheated left, right and centre, and are a cesspit of a club with the morals of an alley cat, in a way you do have to feel sorry for them. NOT. SaintBobby Posted 11 April, 2011 Share Posted 11 April, 2011 My hope is that we nail 2nd as a mathematical certainty at home to Hartlepool on Easter Monday. I think this is just about plausible too. I want to be there when we cross the line and (a) I can't make Plymouth away and (b) don't have the nerves to withstand a "must win/must draw" last day match v Walsall. You obviously didn't attend any of the must win/must draw games to stay games in the 90's then, or Sheffield united a few years ago.

I've been supporting Saints since 1970, and I was still a nervous wreck against Charlton, 2-0 up and going into stoppage time against a team who had barely managed a shot on goal all game. I think it's a form of Post-traumatic stress disorder - our nerves are shot, I'm afraid. I think many of us with Saints scars are like this, although not quite as nervous. I always felt that supporting Saints sets you in good stead for the up's and downs of life in general. At the moment whilst enjoying the bus trip, one eye is constantly on the road ahead looking for the nail destined for the tyres! That's what happens when you live through the longest slow motion car crash in history, from relegation from the prem until the takeover. Cascadia Saint Posted 12 April, 2011 Share Posted 12 April, 2011 I've felt confident for a while now, and I can't ******* wait to get out of this bloody division. I felt confident we would make the play offs last year though, right up until we didn't. Never mind.
Tom & Gerry Posted 12 April, 2011 Share Posted 12 April, 2011 Still think momentum is everything,1 loss and the doubts begin to creep in even though on paper we can afford to lose tonight. If it was any other team you would say they were home and hosed, but this is Saints. Just keep winning Boys.

Looking at their remaining fixtures I don't see them getting 13 points so 12 should do it for us. That means winning all our home games + Plymouth (a).
