My kids who love travelling wouldn’t dream of going to US which says it all about how that country is viewed.

I was in Pacific Palisades and Malibu a couple of weeks ago. Newsom and Bass did a better job of "Fanning the flames" than Trump ever has. Trump warned them of the fire threat years ago. Sad to see the homes burnt to the ground, yet to be rebuilt and talking to those living in rented accomodation, while they wait for their homes to be rebuilt in 3-4 years time. These two morons are trying their best to turn a former paradise into a third world shithole. Go to Mexico and see what's coming for California if these two remain in power. Luckily New York and San Francisco are pulling back. They had to. Homeless drug addicts shooting up and shitting on the streets and refusing shelter so they can continue to use drugs? No wonder Trump got voted in.

Ok arrogant brainbox, why did California vote solidly Demicrat if it is such a "shithole" under Newsom??

Have you ever been? Stunning and varied scenery, amazing weather, and in my experience the majority of people are very friendly. It has it's problems like anywhere but it pisses all over this country.

Not sure you can claim 'amazing weather' for a country as big as the US.

Sure, some parts will be fine, like Florida, others will be miserable.

I’ve lived there and travelled round extensively although not the north-east. The people are friendly yes but as a society it is not a place I’d like to live anymore. It is a shame in its current state and I have American friends who feel the same. Very polarised and hate filled no thanks to Trump.

It is losing all its soft power hence my kids, a new generation, don’t view it as we did

Actually the weather in Florida is awful, unless you like oppressive heat and crushing humidity. Not to mention bugs the size of bats.

San Diego has great weather most of the year. One of the reasons I moved here donkeys years ago!

California is probably the exception. The weather is one of the reasons why I would not want to live in USA. Most of America is too cold in winter and too hot in summer.

I have been to Chicago in winter when it was so cold that standing waiting for a cab made your head hurt. I have been there in summer when it was so hot that it was impossible to touch a seat belt in a car parked in the sun.

Trump pledges to deport violent criminals, great idea -  but instead goes after hardworking car valeters, hotel cleaners and chambermaids with no idea if they are illegal workers or not - the litigation could cost millions of dollars.

This gung ho policy does nothing to help America, it is all about Trump trying to create an enemy of the state so he can look strong.

He doesn't, he looks like he's winging it.

Remember being in Colorado some years ago during the Autumn, it reached nearly 30 degrees during the day but dropped to -2 at night. Never experienced anything like that anywhere else in the world.

I work with quite a few Americans in business and They are generally decent enough but having been surrounded by them for the last two weeks here’s my assessment of your average American

most but not all are complete fucking wankers. Rude, loud, obnoxious and arrogant. For example at meal times you would generally be near a table of them With most of them hollering and shouting, randomly clapping, talking ridiculously loudly. The women dress very trashy and are even louder than the blokes

most of them are obese and greedy, some of the fat fucks here constantly stuffing their faces all hours really does amaze me

we’ve met Argentinians, Canadians, Spanish , Mexicans and other Brits  and they all been fine but most of the Americans are cunts. I assume The Caribbean islands  are their canaries which attracts the worst types. We’re is a very nice hotel which isn’t cheap so god help those doing it on a budget as I’m assuming we’ve met the best of the worst these last two weeks. Generally awful awful people but it seems that sort of behaviour is perfectly normal in their eyes

Could have been. There's been nothing to clap about, watching the team, for a while. So the guy's now not sure when and how to do it. 🙂

American exceptionalism has always been a thing but Trump’s rise has led to more of the annoying Ryder Cup crowd types I’m sure

We did a San Francisco to San Diego road trip in April with the kids, taking in Yosemite and Sequoia on the way whilst we were selling our pad North of LA. It was fantastic.

You're very lucky to live in San Diego, it is a beautiful part of the world. When I lived over there I had to be closer to the tech hubs so couldn't be that far South, but if I had to move back I would move there in a second.

I've been to America plenty of times and aside from the obesity, that isn't my experience at all. I would say a lot of Brits meet that description though.

Interesting, maybe with the US economy weaker under the tariffs they can’t afford their usual favourites such as Aruba let alone the higher end islands like St Lucia, Barbados and Antigua.

There are not many Americans in Barbados. A lot of Brits and a lot of Canadians. If you talk to someone who who has an American sounding accent you normally discover that they are Canadian.

Saw a few on the 2004 Test tour, and you normally spotted them by how sunburnt they were.

Was having a few Banks’s the day before is started with the groundsman and locals, an American got out of the sea and was the colour of a lobster. The locals were horrified, as was I, shuddered thinking about the sore skin, and a local older guy walked past and remarked ‘he may not know it now but in 10 years, he will know about it’.

I've done a couple of NCL cruises so far this year. Both were mostly full of Americans. On there own they are lovely but please don't let them gather together into a crowd.

I can't stand that awful whooping that they do and when the Cruise Director comes out and says,

"Make some noise!"

Followed by,

"Is everybody having a good time?

Then, "I can't hear you! Is everybody having a good time?"

Don't.  Just don't.

Probably the most annoying time was when we were at dinner one evening. We were on one table in a fairly quiet place whilst the table adjacent to us was large group of Americans. About 6 adults and 5 kids aged between about 3 and early teenage. The three adult women were speaking ridiculously loudly and doing that whooping thing you mentioned constantly. one of the blokes kept randomly clapping. it didn't appear to be for any reason, would just sit there and start clapping for about 10 seconds, he must have done it about 6 times in an hour. The blokes were also screaming about "how to play ball, get them when their tired, that's ball and i love it" and all that bollocks, i was genuinely surprised none of the resturant staff told them to shut the fuck up as it wasn't a shitty buffet in an an all inclusive it was a decent al la carte place.

Another time we were watching a singer in the bar and 3 American women sitting near the stage, one of them kept screaming "yeah, yeah, yeah" whenever a song she presumably liked started, it was so loud some times it was over the voice of the singer. The fact they can shout so loud is actually quite impressive, it's just a shame they do it so often in such inappropriate places.

Americans for me are largely bitter because they have fuck all history to their country, like nothing. One street in London has as much history of the entire 51 states combined. They’re like the insecure mate who shout talks at the pub just to be heard and then, pile those insecurities into all the processed shit food they crave and eat. A country that has adverts for antidepressants and people like Majorie Greene Taylor speaking in congress. They give stupidity a new meaning over there. Stunning landscapes though.

As if to prove their own stupidity.

This will play well with the anti-vax brigade and excite the conspiracy theorists, but is incredibly bad news for the rest of humanity. It is very likely that there will be another, similar pandemic in the future and the development of drugs that can deal with the flu/covid viruses is vital. Kennedy is a dangerous man. He has sacked many capable people in his administration and replaced them with anti-vaxers. His beliefs should exclude him from this office. If his decisions just affected the USA, I’d say that this is what they voted for so suck it up. Sadly it will affect much of the rest of the world. Hopefully these development programmes will be picked up in other countries and those experts in their fields move too.
