Dusic Posted June 27 Posted June 27 (edited) Callum Mcfarlane leaving his job as U21 Head Coach to join Chelsea as U18 assistant, reuniting with Joe Shields. Has done a top job at Saints but just shows how hard it is to compete with big clubs at youth level as on the face of it he has accepted a more junior role but in a powerhouse academy with huge investment. revolution saint Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Alfie House has just said the replacement will be Key. Can't find any details on him but will try and find out more.

HarvSFC Posted June 27 Posted June 27 If only Rusk was still around! 😂 Getting annoying every time we have a bit of success/reputable backroom staff member, they get snapped up by one of the big six straight after.

Dusic Posted June 28 Posted June 28 20 minutes ago, Saint86 said: Does this mean we can look forward to Chelsea have a renewed interest in our academy players 😑 No more than before I wouldn't have thought as Joe Shields is already there and besides pretty much every u18 who is genuinely high potential gets taken by one of the big club academies already. Very hard to keep a hyped player all the way through to a pro deal now. 1
ChristopheVAFC Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Normally, Southampton's B team will come here to Valenciennes to face Valenciennes' B team. I don't have the exact date yet, but I'll do what I can to be there and give you some information. 2

disconnect Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Sounds like a good appointment - might lead to bringing in some other good youth players? Are we renaming the thread back to the u21s?
Tommy Mulgrew Posted July 11 Posted July 11 ER who T’ ECK is TONDA? 🤔 I see he has been Assistant Manager at Genoa for 4 years and before that at Barnsley for a year; before that Assistant Manager for academy or youth sides at Munich (1 year), Leipzig (2), Salszburg (1) and Cologne (3) since 2013. He has worked with several decent managers. Not bad for a 32 year-old. Calum McFarlane has gone to an EPL club, apparently. The German invasion continues.

disconnect Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Overshadowed by the Ipswich match, but the under 21s won 2-1 away to Newcastle on Sunday with goals from Dipepa and Akachukwu. From those of the older players / have been around the first team squad, the following were missing from the squad, so imagine some may be injured but others about to go out on loan? Zach Awe, Nathanael Boot, Nico Lawrence, Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh, Dom Ballard, Victor Udoh. 1

Over land and sea Posted August 18 Posted August 18 It must be the latter as Newcastle were playing 1 to 11 Line-ups 1
trousers Posted August 23 Posted August 23 (edited) Question for anyone who follows the u21s closely... Do we have anyone in the squad at the moment who is head and shoulders above everyone else and thus likely to be knocking on the door of the first team this season? In other words, do we have another Jay Robinson or Tyler Dibling in our midst? Edited August 23 by trousers

egg Posted August 29 Posted August 29 (edited) Interesting that they're playing 4231, rather than mirroring the 1st team system. Perhaps a sign of what the 1st team want to do. Edited August 29 by egg 3

Ted Bates Statue Posted September 16 Posted September 16 That's a nice looking red and white kit, seems a bit different on screen though... oh that's Woking. Okunola having a nightmare.
Tommy Mulgrew Posted September 16 Posted September 16 Lost 2:1. Played 3:4:2:1; 61% possession; Dibaga scored from a Bragg assist. 5 corners, only 8 shots and only three on target. Woking won on goals scored. We won on goals conceded, possession, corners won, fouls committed and shots off target. Shaping up well to prepare players for the first team. 😇

hypochondriac Posted October 3 Posted October 3 I think Sesay is too good for our reserves. I'd stick him on loan if we aren't minded to use him. 2

Certainly looked good pre-season and has stood out in the few games I've watched of the u21s this season much like Robinson and Dibling before him have, albeit obviously not a promise he'll go on to be quite as good as those two. You'd think we still have Aribo & Matsuki not getting in the matchday squad ahead of him so it does look unlikely he'd get much gametime unfortunately. Shame we can't at least move Aribo on, but I think you'd struggle to get a better first choice 3 central players than Charles, Jander and Downes, so always will be tough to fit Sesay in this season.
ecuk268 Posted Tuesday at 15:12 Posted Tuesday at 15:12 Playing Real Madrid U21s on 29th October 19.00. Under 18s go free and £5.00 for adults. Grandson nagging me to take him so I'll probably go.

And a nice distraction from the first team performances.

It's kids half term so I'm going to take mine along, would be interested to know if teams are allowed to field some overage players like they can in PL2, would like to see Saints give a run out to a couple.of players who need minutes, Real Madrid might bring over Vini jr and Mbappe who apparently have always wanted to play at St Mary's 1 1
