Trump is nothing but an extremely useful idiot who may force Ukraine into concessions which benefit Russia. 3

badgerx16 Posted 22 March, 2025 Posted 22 March, 2025 Steven Witkoff, US Special Advisor to the Middle East, has said that the results of the referendums that Russia held in the occupied ares of Ukraine demonstrate that the people there want to be Russian, completely ignoring the facts around those polls where those people that hadn't fled the military occupation, or been detained by the Russians, were asked at gunpoint whether they wanted to be assimilated. It appears that yet another of Putin's key demands has already been conceded. Mind you, given the views of Trump and his cronies towards elections, is this surprising. 1

badgerx16 Posted 28 March, 2025 Posted 28 March, 2025 Given Putin's comments this morning regarding the Ukrainian Government, maybe Zelensky should suggest that there is a democratic election in Russia, under the supervision of the UN, and then peace talks could take place with Russia's new 'legitimate' leadership. 2

Israeli attacks have killed or injured at least 100 children in the last day in Gaza, and 2/3 are still being forcibly displaced. What's happening in Ukraine is awful, but pointing to the religion of the victim children as you have is poor form. 1

There hasn't been any hand wringing from the usual suspects in this thread when innocent Ukrainian children have been killed - and it's been happening for a lot longer than the Gaza conflict. All innocent children deaths are wrong, however, on this board it's clear that some think the deaths of Muslim children are far more noteworthy than others. The simple fact is that you have said very clearly on here that the tens of thousands of innocent people in Gaza deserved what they get because, in one way or another, they are associated with Hamas. You, and a few others, have not shown any kind of sympathy towards the Palestinian people, be it in Gaza or those being thrown out of their homes on the West Bank. If it was the other way round, you would be all over it like a rash. Why do you use the word “obsession”? Would you use that word in a pejorative sense to describe those who keep the memory of the Holocaust alive? What is happening right now is an obscenity. You think we should just turn a blind eye to what is happening (and I include 7th October in this and all of the events prior). People have the perfect right to live in peace without having their land stolen by the neighbours, whoever they are. Wouldn’t you agree? Both the Ukrainians and the Palestinians are currently having their human rights put under threat by more powerful neighbours. You ok with that? 1

Although that was always inevitable, the horrific approach and messaging from the US leaves no room for manoeuvre on the Ukrainian side, and creates expectation on the Russian side. It will still end in a carve up, but it's a question of when. With the apparent Russian dominance on the ground, and the inability to properly defend themselves without US intelligence and Musk's tech, I'd imagine the Ukrainians will do a deal sooner rather than later. 1
