Dont know what the general opinion is but I think Armstrong and Archer are very similar players.

Shame we cant lose one and get a Chris Woods type centre forward to take advantage of crosses into the box unless Ross Edwards can step up.

If it allows us to bring in another striker who might perform better in our system then I'd at least consider it. Without that though I wouldn't bother.

Even Roerslav has spent nearly his entire playing career in England, so he is accustomed to the domestic game.

Long time observer of the forum, but have never actually contributed.

Fernandes and Dibling wanted out all summer, as have a few others. Unfortunately for them, the rumoured interest has not actually materialised into real interest. My major qualms with SR are not that we let either player go, or the fees we have received. It's that we have allowed it to drag on longer than it needed to, and its undoubtedly disrupted the start of the season.

Still saying "we just need to get through the first month" didn't need to be the case. Dibling in particular could have been sold earlier. I get SR want to maximise profit, but they should have taken stock in mid july and realised that, perhaps unsurprisingly, not many teams were interested in players from a side that barely got more points than Derby 07/08, and actively tried to move them, given they were highly unlikely to ever to stay.

This has a major knock on effect to the recruiting too. We cant expect new signings from a different league/country, to hit the ground running with no pre-season and under a new manager. Its absolutely no surprise mads is the one who has settled quickest. We are now in a scenario where we have group of fans saying that we have to give players time, and another saying we need immediate performances. Both are right in my opinion, and both could have happened, had we got our business done earlier. 

Finally, will add, ive worked at or alongside two clubs, one of which meant Ive spent time and interacted with a person prominent in SR (i'll be intentionally vague). The further away from the club we can move said individual, the better.

Great post and exactly right. The primary issue is that we haven't got some of these players in earlier. I accept we can't do all deals until near the end but we should have got some in to make the start easier.

Ill be honest… I don’t think getting Dibling or Fernandes out of the door would of necessarily accelerated our purchases of Fellows or Azaz tbh

Boro or WBA probably don’t operate much differently to us, attempting to hold onto our best players until alternatives are lined up

Pretty telling, atleast in Fellows case, that it was reported that we got in contact with WBA a litre while and the fact cogs are only moving now sort of highlights what was said originally around clubs securing other targets, or, waiting for other interested parties first

As for Azaz, I think its because we were given good indication from Spertsyans reps that it was moving, such is football finance… my… ‘guess’ is we enquired about Rudoni, told no, then moved to Azaz unless we enquired simultaneously

Think Fellows was a separate deal entirely 

Edit - Just to add, and Ive said it before in here, due to my dealings past and present around the club I have been able to go to a few matches in the directors box over the last 36 months (my contacts gone now unfortunately) and have potentially met the same person as mentioned above…. Didn’t win me over I have to admit

It’s not madness to sell Cameron. It’s absolutely the best time. He has gone missing so many matches and been invisible for so long in matches - then scores a beauty. I hope PSV watched that goal and thought he looks like a £15m player. I’m taking the money because since he’s been at Saints he has NOT looked that player week in week out. Once every ten or fifteen matches perhaps he scores or does a run that comes to it but, frankly, he’s not been threatening and if that goal v Norwich means we get a decent fee I’m in!

I'm not sure this is actually possible - it's just the way things work with a transfer 'window', unless a transfer is totally straightforward, it's always going to go on until just before a hard deadline. The only way to get Dibling or Fernandes sold in, say, July would have been to accept the initial bids, which would have cost us a season-changing amount of money, £15-20m less than we got.

How do we know whether that is down to the quality of service he's received rather than his own ability....?

What is more likely - that multiple professional standard footballers  ( I’m talking dozens of players from our defence and midfield through to fellow attackers) cannot find Cameron with a pass or that he is at fault? 
The most likely explanation is the one you should make your favourite.

He’s still our best finisher.  The others look like frightened rabbits in front of goal.

Yeah, fair points. His goalscoring stats have been a tad patchy during his career thus far... one or two decent spells in there though....

I posted this image in the Championship thread. From the first three league games, this suggests it's finishing that's the problem and not chance creation.....

Yeah that two goals in 38 matches from our alleged best finisher does rather stand out a bit. Lovely man - perhaps too nice - but I’m sure we can do better.
