Sky Sports News say £42m

Good luck to Matty, I really hope he does well, although the signs at Wet Spam are not promising at the moment.

Hugely impressive debut season coming from Portugal as a 19/20 year-old to the Premier League and performing consistently week-in week-out is no mean feat. He gave his all every match he played in, even though an equally talented local lad that had been brought up through the academy had given up  halfway through the season and sulked for the rest of it.

Good luck Matty, I wish you nothing but the best and a sparkling career for your future clubs and country (unless you are playing against Saints or England).

If I was a West Ham fan and we’re in the state we’re currently in, I wouldn’t be happy we’re spending £42m on a midfielder from Southampton

Nah I agree. More than capable at this level imo.

Reviewing Hypo's absolute headloss at the signing, when he turns out to actually be alright will be brilliant.

I may be misremembering, but didn't Parsons state and/or indicate at the Fans' Forum that they wouldn't let Fernandes go for less than £50m...?

There may be a sell-on clause that gets it to about that number

Yeah, as is said it has all gone very, very quiet, and unless quite a lot changes he wouldn't be off. I guess quite a lot changed...

Still not heard from my mate though. Why would an agent be busy at this time of year?

Im surprised you think that Appy, WHU fans whilst in the main are entitled they do know a good footballer, and so I expect they will be pleased, although they will expect more than just him

Disappointed about Fernandes but can totally see the logic, particularly if he is pressing for a move.

A midfield of Charles, Azuz and Downes should be good enough for promotion- and is balanced.

Plus £20m in credit - which either balances the books or gives that money to assist in wingers, forward where likely to make more difference.

I've never heard of jander so did chat gpt and sounds pretty good....

Growing Profile & Interest

Jander rapidly established himself as a key performer in Nürnberg’s midfield, catching interest from Bundesliga outfits like VfB Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, Leverkusen, Freiburg, and even Premier League clubs like Wolves, Brentford, and Tottenham .

Stuttgart reportedly tabled offers in the high-eight-digit euro range, while Nürnberg values him around €7–8.5 million .

---

Style of Play

1. Technical & Intelligent Ball Player

On the Ball: Known for calm composure, precise passing, and excellent ball control at pace. Often compared stylistically to Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić for making difficult actions look effortless .

Vision & Creativity: Combines technical nimbleness and awareness to create chances from midfield. He averages 1.46 chances created per 90 and dribbles at 0.69 per 90 .

Possession Play: His short-passing accuracy and spatial awareness ease team build-up, often acting as the dependable pivot under pressure .

2. Athletic & Energetic

Pace & Agility: Possesses high speed and agility, reaching opponents easily in transition .

Versatility: Comfortable in both central and defensive midfield roles; capable as box-to-box or as a deep-lying creator .

3. Defensively Active & Press-Driven

Ball Recovery: Strong in duels, averaging over two tackles per 90, nearly 6 recoveries per 90, and winning around 58.5% of duels .

Pressing & Anticipation: Effective in high-press systems, reading the game well defensively despite occasional aggression and fouls .

“Vacuum Cleaner” Role: A workhorse in midfield, winning second balls, intercepting, and winning duels—even when going down Jander still influences play profoundly .

4. Fan Perception

Reddit fans have rallied behind him, labeling him as a “Top Spieler… bringt gute Ideen in den Spielaufbau” (top player… brings good ideas into buildup) and even comparing him to Schweinsteiger in his prime—with one predicting: “In 2 Jahren Nationalspieler” (in two years, a national team player) .

---

Performance Data & Potential

2024–25 Season Stats (2. Bundesliga): 27–32 appearances with 3 goals and 6–9 assists, depending on source .

Scout Insights: Not a deep-lying playmaker but excels in possession dominance, transitions, and dynamic pressing .

FIFA Career Mode Ratings: In EA FC25, Jander’s in-game rating ranges from 66–71, with a potential of 79—a sign of strong upside .

---

Summary Table: Strengths & Potential

Strength Area Details

Technical Ability Excellent dribbling, ball control, and passing; creative in possession

Tactical Intelligence Anticipates play, supports transitions, stays calm under pressure

Athleticism Quick, agile, dynamic work rate across midfield

Defensive Contribution Active in duels, pressing, high ball recoveries

Personality & Upside Humble, coachable, highly regarded by fans and clubs; strong potential for Bundesliga progress

---

Future Potential

At just 22, Jander is on the cusp of a major leap. Bundesliga clubs are monitoring him closely, and his contract until 2028 gives Nürnberg a strong negotiation position .

With consistent growth, he could become a key starter at top-flight level, and may well earn himself a senior national team call-up in time—especially if the current trajectory continues .

---

Bottom Line

Caspar Jander is highly promising. A technically gifted, energetic, and intelligent midfielder who blends ball progression with defensive effort. His style fits modern possession-oriented systems, and though not yet at Bundesliga-level, he’s very close. Clubs across Germany and England are paying attention—and rightly so.

If all this is accurate he sounds like a baller. We'll see.

No club can thrive with the level of player sales that we churn through.

Even if our scouting department was actually good, the level of turnover is just too high.

When you also throw in the fact our recruitment team are as useful as a chocolate teapot, you can see where things are headed over the next few years.

Laying it on a bit thick, pal.

We're a selling club. Always have been.

I'm not sure describing a signing as underwhelming can be described as a headloss. It's not the level of player I was expecting, particularly given our sales.

He’s obviously a good player, I just mean more the optics of it, especially as they did the same two years ago with Ward-Prowse.

Not calling you out and really appreciate the snippets you share.

But, "optimistic of a club record fee" to just scraping £40m is some climb down

If you look at his posts, it follows news released on X (for this snippet it's the McGough bloke Alfie quoted). There is no inside info here...soz.

Have any of you ever actually negotiated a price for anything in your life? If you ever go to the market in somewhere like Marrakech and some guy comes up to you and says, "special price, 300 Dirhams!" he's not actually expecting you to pay that.

I guess it's very similar negotiating with a street seller in Marrakech and a director of football at a Premier League club but I take your general point.

Press conference might be more interesting than the usual dross today at 1.30.

3rd player also intriguing, surely Alfie would have named Guilavogui, having played him down just yesterday. Scienza perhaps? Happy with either if another winger comes in.

I'm sad about this one, a lot more so than the Dibling one. Fernandes had a longer contract, we held a lot of the power. He also has a very good attitude, as I pointed out before the Wrexham game. His head never dropped last year like Dibling's did and there's just over a year between them and Fernandes was always available for our games so far this season, barring the cup game this week. I also didn't think a club would meet our £50m price tag, and they haven't, but like with Dibling we've gone in with a counter offer and the price has come down. £38m initial fee isn't great. I just thought that we sold Dibling to raise some funds to build Still's squad as we were struggling in the market without that income and it would help us to keep Fernandes.

But, I must also agree with others that the Fernandes we've seen this season hasn't been the same one we saw in the Premier League, or playing for the Portugal Under-21s this summer, so maybe he was holding back.

With that said, after the sales of Dibling and Fernandes, alongside Sulemana's fairly big sale, Amo-Ameyaw, Bednarek, Onuachu, Ramsdale's loan fee, Emsden-James to United, Juan and some loans out, while also expecting Smallbone, Edozie and Aribo to go before the deadline. We absolutely need another big signing alongside Azaz. Or, we're going to absolutely walk the net spend trophy.

Never heard of this Jander guy, will have to look at YouTube.

Guessing all these top European clubs weren't interested in the end then. I thought someone said it would rival the fee we got for Van Dijk a month or so ago.

Says something when our two best outfield players from last season end up at Everton & West Ham. We obviously hold them in higher regard than most of the clubs in the world.

The big boys in the Premier League generally go for the finished article.

In today's online world, where broadcast and written media blur into one, it baffles why we still have these ridiculous embargoes... Is it something the club enforce or is it at a league level?

Do you know what does make me very happy, the wage bill will be very low, certainly compared to last time in this league. Give us the headroom for more next season.

it is like the Sat 3pm blackout. Can’t reverse that otherwise no one will go to games… despite half the country watching sat 3pm games via various means.

I was thinking the same thing on my way to work. Adam Blackmoresaid in the Adam and Jo pod that we had moved on 15 players (that included Aribo and Edozie) and now Matty as well, so the wage bill must be slashed by £300k pw minimum

Of course not we buy quality players like Sulamana, Tall Paul, BBD
