Still seems like a good fit. I'm just weary because Juric seemed like a good fit based on the analysis we read and all that "heavy metal football" nonsense.

Then he played five at the back and almost no central midfielders.

Seems like a pointless gamble to me but have given up giving a shit anyway. Just have to hope they actually know what they are doing this time.

Who wouldn't be a gamble ??  Hiring a young progressive manager is a gamble but one worth taking in my opinion. The club need a revamp, a change of culture & a young manager can certainly go a long way to making that happen.

As y'all may find out if you hire that young progressive Russell Martin.

He is young, inexperienced and never played or managed in the Championship. He may turn out to be brilliant but it is a gamble.

Risk with any appointment.

I’m not convinced by it, but who knows ? By Christmas we might be hoping we stave off interest from West Ham after Potter fails, or we could be going on another meltdown in October wondering why Spors appointed him in the first place.

It's a nightmare !!!

Leicester continue to make ridiculous decisions. You would think that anyone with even the slightest knowledge of football would have seen what happened when Martin thought he knew better than the other 19 managers.

FWIW I hope you dodge this particular bullet.

Every time I get pissed off with another monumental gamble, I go back and listen to Julien Laurens. This appointment is too important to get wrong.

I'd rather Leicester take the bullet and hamstring themselves with MartinBall, transfer embargo and a points deduction!

I am quietly excited by this appointment, largely because it will supposedly see the end of an utterly inappropriate style of football for our club. Whether or not the Club matches this appointment with a squad of players that can actually do the business remains to be seen. As I’ve said on many occasions, you can appoint the best Manager in the World, but he/she will only be as good as the players at their disposal. Im looking forward to seeing what the summer window brings.

Welcome to Saints Will.

What ever happens, let’s just reminisce that the manager who started this season in the Premier League tried to play peak Barcelona style, with Alex McCarthy and Jack Stephens/Jan Bednarek

Likewise, I’m feeling positive about Still… what else is there to feel after such a shite season where, worse than anger, most of us have been driven to apathy??

Still seems highly regarded  by those with the most informed opinions, presents as tactically astute and, perhaps most importantly, dynamic.

Let’s hope he has the time and resources to build a renewed squad capable of playing his style and one that can quickly bring back a more positive culture after this season’s absolute car wreck.

The Sunderland manager managed L'Orient and got them relegated from ligue 1 and just took Sunderland to the Premier League.

So I see no reason Will Still who had better success in Ligue 1 can't do that with us. I'm quite excited by his appointment.

I think not managed in the Championship before has been debunked, even today.

He’s obviously has the experience and nous of being a manager/coach so is suitable. Only a question of whether he is the right fit for us and that is always the hard part. Something that Spors will no doubt have gauged when considering him and others for the job.

I’m assuming that your comment was somewhat tongue in cheek

For the most part , the ones complaining will always be the ones complaining.

How far, and on what criteria?

By the demonstrable fact that the vast majority of players that play for under 20 international teams acrcross Europe do not end up having long top flight careers in major leagues.

To you, Lens players, to you, Bollaert… It's time for me to turn the page and leave the club. It's never easy to make this kind of decision, especially when you're lucky enough to work in such a passionate environment, with such dedicated and warm people.

This season has been anything but linear. A rollercoaster season, with its storms, changes of plans, lulls, and suspended moments. We suffered, doubted, but never gave up. And together, we finally accomplished something great: finishing 8th with one point more than last season.

I have always moved forward with honesty, with integrity, without ever cheating, either myself or you. And I will continue to do so, wherever I am. Going home doesn't mean I stop living and working; I simply want to be able to do so in a more controlled environment and alongside my loved ones for now.

Lens isn't leaving me. I will return. For singing, filming, and feeling the vibe of Les Corons, this song will always resonate with me.

I would like to thank the President, Joseph, Pierre and Jean Louis, Benjamin, Hugo, the sports management, and everyone who works within the club. The entire staff, Ed and Nico, but also, of course, the group of players. And you, the supporters, are the soul of this club. Despite everything that has happened, personally or professionally, you have always been there for the team, for me, unconditionally, in misfortune or glory. Bollaert is something we never forget.

I leave with many strong memories, and the pride of having been part, even for a moment, of the Sang et Or family ❤️💛

It will be, yet again, the knee-jerk fans versus the patient fans (at least that tends to be how it works).

Interesting, perhaps the compensation discussions for them are ongoing.

Close.... I'm talking about the optimists that stay optimistic when the manager they were optimistic about has amassed a handful of points in half a season.... That kind of sycophant... ;)

(Or should that be 'psychopath'...? :) )

There may be some context I'm not aware of, but finishing 1 point higher than last season is an interesting example of "accomplishing something great"...

Impressive to better last seasons point tally with a -£76m spend which included losing GK and both main CBs. The entire spine of the team sold in January actually.

Ah, cheers, that's the context I was missing! Does indeed sound like a significant achievement then.

They sold their best players last summer and in January. So to do better without them is a good thing.

It’s him and two brothers isn’t it ?

I suppose the collective noun for three brothers at the club is a ‘Wallace of Saints’.

Note the distinctive blue legwear here, compared to the other soldiers, marking this issue out as one of Commando's "Trousers in Action" series. All had "When fence sitting ended, war began!" as the caption in the opening page.

Happily surprised these are still going. Used to buy 2 copies a week, along with Roy Of The Rovers, with my paper round earnings.

If anyone in our family is feeling poorly, they get a Commando comic. It's tradition.

Remember your Commando Comics Codex:

Established officers will get their men killed through arrogance and bloody-mindedness.

Sgts are the salt of the earth. They will bring young officers through, often getting killed as a final lesson in passing the torch.

Young officers are morally better than their older counterparts, despite the class system boosting them into positions where it takes lower ranks to keep them alive.
