I'd be looking to keep him as backup and upgrade we want someone in the mould of Scienza on the right.

Pure greed ... go find another (genuinely unknown) wing genius, we want more 😂

What I don't understand is why Fellows seems so reluctant to take a player on and get to the byline.  When he first arrived he was doing it a fair bit, and he seemed to do it all the time for West Brom but his first thought now seems to be to cut inside virtually all the time.  Seems especially strange given we've now got a couple of options in terms of a physical presence that would thrive on the crosses he could put in.

Absolutely this. I’ve been watching him closely at games and he seems frightened to take players on or lose the ball. Consequently he often checks inside and plays the easy ball. Maybe it’s his confidence but it slows our play down.

watched him last nite and unfortunately hes a bit of a damp squip.hr has two actions going down line but passing back when he cant beat the fullback and cutting inside where there are too many players in his way.He needs to rethink what he does or be replaced

Surprised the level of criticism for Fellows here, although it does seem fashionable to highlight him.

His shooting has been poor, now a confidence issue, but for me he seems to have exceptional close ball control - possibly second only to Scienza- and can deliver a decent cross. We’re a better team with him in it when he’s firing in my view.

We pissed him about a bit early season as a WB. Had he started the season with a Larin or fit Stewart he’d have had a few assist credits to his name.

He’ll come good.

Azaz could really make that position his own. As long as Tom doesn’t stray inside.. No-one wants to see fellows in the az hole..

..and god forbid if Wood decides to play a little further up the pitch.

Surprised this went unnoticed for so long.

Fellows needs to get a goal, any type of goal!

He's still plugging away and draws in players but you can see his confidence for shooting is waning.

I’m hoping he joins the unlikely heroic scorer of an important goal club soon, possibly in the SF.

A select club with Hugh Fisher, Paul Gilchrist, and Terry Curran as members.

Surely there are some more recent members than those three, but I'm struggling to think of any right now.

Perhaps Shane Long in the Anfield SF, (although a more regular scorer than the three I list).

Surely Gabbiadini? - whoops just seen ‘unlikely’, guessing a striker scoring wasn’t ‘unlikely’, although that’s up for debate with some of our recent ones!

He’s excellent at dragging the ball to the byline with a couple of step overs and then successfully completing a cross - occasionally.

Aside from that he his been very non-existent.

Bumping this.

More evident by the game.

The more worrying thing is losing the ball is stupid areas of the pitch.

Last season he was a bit prone to playing blind passes inside when under pressure.

He has looked poor for quite a long time now and also without one goal or even looking like scoring. … Fellows needs to have a loan or few months in the stiffs to develop his game more. Certainly he needs a rethink…

His finishing is pretty poor but it always has been.  We brought him in for assists and he did an OK job last season with that despite playing a fair chunk at RWB.  Thought he put a few decent crosses in today as well and if Larin (or someone better than BBD) was on the pitch then it would be a different story.  Most of the time he's playing as an inside forward though and not hugging the touchline and that's not his position.  He's a winger who gets dangerous crosses in so play him that way, none of this cutting inside bollocks, just let him concentrate on what he's good at.

Good player in there still only 23, just lacking a bit of consistency and composure right now which will come from confidence and a bit more experience. I think he’ll have a better season

Agreed. We need to persist with him. If Edozie is going woukd be good to get another winger who could operate on either side to have another option though.

it generally takes two opposition players to cover his threat and he still manages to cause problems and create chances. My take is that I'd prefer him playing for us than facing him in the opposition team.

Yeah the will still weird hybrid full back role didn’t help with us playing a dwarf Armstrong up front. Also remember a few games where he was playing well and subbed off early, like Sheffield United away he was probably our best player but came off at half time, bizarrely. I like him

I like Fellows too, will be a great player. Plenty of assists to be had and I'm sure he'll pop up with the odd goal which will boost his confidence no end.

Exactly this. Fellows is a good player. Once he gets that first goal it will give him a boost.

Think it is a bit weird how a few people are writting him off. If anything he is set up perfectly for a 'breakout season'. It's not an unusual thing at all to have a tricky transitional year, (especially coming from boyhood club) and for wingers to be better in year two.

Still only 23. First year at Saints: 0 goals, 5/6 assists in the league - But he’d already managed 14 Championship assists at 21, and last season’s 0 goals came from around 35 shots (3xG). It was freakish and very doubtful that will repeat this season.

Moe settle + more minutes + normal finishing + another year experience at the club.

He doesn't need to 'improve' so much as regain composure and get a couple of early goals. If he actually improves too, could be a monster season.

All depends how and how much he is used of course, but:

10 goal contributions is a safe bet.

12-15 goal contributions? very plausible.

I think he is up there with Scienza at taking the game to the opposition and driving forward. How I hate this passing around the twenty yards out from the back. I would though have him practicing his shooting from dawn til dusk if I was Tonda.

I would though have him practicing shooting dawn til dusk in training.

I think it is confidence. There is a footballer in there. Can take players on and finds players.

Just needs a goal, any type of goal! And we could see him start contributing more.

He kept on cutting in from the wing too early last season IMO and trying to use his left foot to cross or shoot , instead of getting to the by line and crossing with his right.

From the few bits I saw of him in pre-season, he seems to be varying his delivery more.

Last season it was lots of dinked crosses; now he seems to be cutting it back low towards the penalty spot more.

Could be good ammunition for our midfield.

Obviously some don't seem to rate him, possibly because he has wasted some good goalscoring opportunities, but a tad more composure and he'll star converting those. I like what he offers the team in terms of ball retention and willingness to dribble until the cows come home. He gives us a great out and last season it was very noticeable when he was substituted as we struggled to retain possession and get out of our own half. I've never thought he was a PL player, but at this level he is decent.  it wouldn't surprise me if we had a great season and chipped in with half a dozen goals at least.

just play as Sydenham and Pain did, get crosses in and stop coming inside, hug the wing and cross the ball easy................

Yeah, it's very easy.......especially if your centre forward is Big Ron 🙂

His confidence is clearly lacking at the moment particularly with shooting but he's a great crosser of the ball. If we get him the ball in the right places and he gets the ball in the box the Larin and Mubama are going to enjoy their seasons a lot as will we.

The trouble with him is that he also does tend to lose or give the ball away in dangerous areas. Something else he needs to work on.
