Can he play up front?

I’d imagine it’s probably against the rules to play in football boots with those little height boost heels he puts in his shoes… allegedly.

Cortese in Private Eye's Me and my Spoon...

Sure, all my spoons were bought with other people's money. But look at the quality!

Sure, staff will be fired for looking at my spoons funny. They haven't my cutlery knowledge, and can't be trusted to even clean them.

All spoon related damage to my desk or Benali's property was pre existing, and I accept no responsibility.

I have been invited to curate the spoon collections of many top European spoon clubs.

I mostly take the piss about Cortese on here, but I was struck by a post recently which said something like after Cortese's departure, staff felt they didn't need to walk on eggshells any more and things went too far the other way in becoming a free-for-all. Not saying I would have liked to work for him, but for all his faults, he had a vision of driving us to European qualification with everyone relentlessly pushing towards that, and we got there in part thanks to the rocket he put under this club.

Whether the post is completely accurate or not, a change in attitude has been obvious to most of us for quite some time. For me it was when Krueger thought it was a good idea to inform us that we were just a small club. For others, maybe it was slightly earlier when Les Reed claimed that Pellegrino would bring us exciting, attacking football, when those who knew better warned that we would most likely only see that from the opposition. Compare and contrast with Cortese ruthlessly dispensing with far better managers for the betterment of the club.

I feel like there can often be a lot of luck involved in this sport and things can change very quickly, but this club hasn't been in the business of making it for quite some time. It was glaringly obvious last season, and it's still reflected in our league position today.

Cortese was not liked by most staff and i guess there is a slight point to the rocket, however the likes of Les Reed were doing all the grafting.

Cortese wanted to get asap back to the PL so he could sell the club and make millions for doing so.

Only Kat Liebeerr hated him and the rest is history.

Ive said it many times on here, Cortese went out of his way to damage the club on the run up to his departure, the way he treated Benali was inhumane.

Fans got totally blindly by the PR from David Bick

Get him & Ankersen at it bare knuckles. Location St Marys. Ticket price £10 with a free pint of that rip-off Japanese piss they sell, or £5 on Saints TV with live fight commentary from Jo Tessem. All proceeds go towards paying up DD's contract. Winner gets to pick the next Saints manager.

His was the only era  bar maybe the keegan one I’ve really had faith in the running of the club,. One of the things I really liked was he wasn’t just happy for us to know our place and get bullied by the bigger clubs or player power he challenged everyone to raise their game or they would find out .

his appointments of employing staff and managers was immaculate too the guy never missed and as we are seeing now not anyone idiot can do that it’s not just about spending money

Yep, I don’t care who he upset, he had a huge impact on this club. Great manager appointments and transfers and a culture of success and building for the future.

It’s increasingly clear that you have to be ruthless to succeed in a tough business like football. As evidenced by the absolute cluster fuck we have seen since.

Pointless talking about the good times now really with these charlatans in charge.

He did a lot right and a lot wrong, however I will always love him for seeing the Sun take out a two page spread telling the nation how they’re now ignoring us.

I remember a Monday morning in the sun football results pullout, can't remember who we played but it said ... v some south Coast team lol

Im sure he put peoples backs up, ex players not getting complimentary tickets, etc etc but Marcus trusted hm and that is good enough for me

As a decent man himself, do you think that Marcus would have tolerated how Cortese treated people both inside and outside the club?

that was when he tried being billy big bollocks and banned the press from St Marys. They refused to mention us and referred to us as you describe. He soon got back in his box after that.

Delivered and set the tone for the best period this club has had in recent memory. What do Saints fans do? Openly mock him. Says it all about this club and why it’s in the shit it is now. Who cares if he was mad, angry, rude or whatever nonsense has been spread. He brought high standards which attracted managers and players of a calibre we could only dream of now. I’m sure Semmens is a very polite and nice and look what that got us.

Wonder if Chelsea fans talk negatively about Abramovich?

Not sure Cortese would want to return with Dragan overseeing the club.

From what I remember from the time Cortese wasn’t sacked or kicked out. But he wouldn’t stay with Katherina Liebherr and her team overseeing the club, and its finances. Why ?

I agree about our improvement under him, but shame he wasn’t prepared to remain and work with KL and her team.

Interesting he hasn’t appeared at another club in the last 12 years.

Not quite the way I recall it. He was given a great deal of autonomy under Markus and a bag full of cash, he was constantly saying things like “we will always break even, we won’t lose money like lots of other clubs”. Turned out when Kat took over that we had substantial loans and the club was losing plenty of money. And so he was told to get finances solid or get out, he did the latter.

He was a mental little man but, oh my, he had an excellent record for recruitment of managers.

Agree it’s weird he didn’t work for another club but I bet banking is way easier. Can’t remember exactly but didn’t they tighten the purse strings and therefore torpedo his plan for us. Fair enough it’s their money and there was talk of him getting a bit lose with it but we could have been Leicester. We were certainly tracking to be an outside but credible shot for the title. Will always fuck me off that Leicester pulled it off basically copying us. Ok they had the ridiculous luck with their squad staying fit and towards the end the refs and media wishing them home but I believe they admitted as much that they copied our blueprint. They just had the balls to see it through. We got les Reed and shit the bed. If you want to talk about a wannabe dictator how about that nob? Can picture him reading a paper about Cortese and saying wait to they get a load of me.

Tbh is it that rare for chairman’s or CEO’s not to appear at another club ?  He was liebherrs man and Marcus pretty much left him to run it as he wanted. Such a shame really Marcus had to die as cortese was doing everything right  kat just wanted her asset back really never really had any intention to do anything with it
