Well it seems to me that he is fed up with senior players making glaring errors and not 'showing what we're about' so has decided to see what some of the fringe players have to offer which is a perfectly sensible approach. What would be gained by continuing with those who have let him down so badly? This is a free hit, we don't expect to win so why not experiment - at least we may learn something.

Plus when we get humped we can share the scar tissue around a bit 😉

Cue being overrun in midfield again then... (?)

For that to happen we'd need Scienza and Armstrong to have their brave trousers on. Suspect they'll be inside forwards closer to the wing backs than usual playing against Liverpool

Good news: No Salah.

Bad news: Isak and Chiesa will tear us a new one.

I suspect all tonight will 'show us' is that we desperately needed a decent, seasoned centre back...and a striker.

Depends how their replacements do tonight. If they show some grit, fight and determination I would expect them to keep their places at the expense of those who have been well below the required standards.

Like Robinson and Matsuki, who did well and were dropped

Fair point and I agree both deserved a start tonight.

I hope Will Still delivers his pre-match and half-time talks to the team with more enthusiasm than he has managed in his interview just now. Sounds bored to death. Hope we're not all joining him tonight.

Yeah, let’s hope he’s just trying to look and sound nonplussed by playing a ‘big’ club, rather than thinking “oh shit, here we go again”.

Its a stronger team put out by Still. But also a very strong Liverpool side. I was expecting a full U21s side, its a Prem top 6 v Championship botton 6 game.

As long as we play out best that's as best we can hope

5 shots, 37% ball, 3 corners, 270 passes, 19 saves, 125 passes back or side.

Not sure how many goals for and against

I get the idea that ITV consider Saints to be nothing more than cannon fodder for the brilliant, never better, superb Liverpool team who hardly need bother breaking sweat despite getting a freebie to the 3rd round and excused having to play any strong teams on this occasion.

Agree, they’re massively overestimating us.

I appreciate it's a throw away pre- match interview, and AA is unlikely to divulge the cutting edge tactics, however I can imagine Still's words of 'get the basics right', 'quality will come through' being accurate, and sadly uninspiring.

I really hope we aren't terrible.

We are in the gorgeous yellow and blue kit. The glorious colours of '76. We will prevail.

Unfortunately we haven't got Laurie Mac managing
