Bragg 

Whilst I'd be very happy not to lose Jander I'd still feel a little underwhelmed and feel we lack some options there.

Downes apart there’s very little muscle or aggression there. As said elsewhere we need a good DM, and/or  a bit more size/height of an enforcer there. A Schneiderlin or Wanyama.
The Columbian bloke seemed to match up but wants to stay at Real Betis.

I’m a big fan of him, but he is exactly the opposite of what we need. Hes not strong or powerful enough. He doesn’t dominate games. 

He’s not able to score free kicks anymore. If he wasn’t here before we’d never be interested. Cannot see it working well.

He's very slow, 5' 8 and will replace a player who is 6' 2. We need more speed, height, strength and power in midfield not less.

You’re absolutely right. The problem is, to get out of the Championship you’ve got to play at lower Prem level at least to get  near auto-promotion. Signing and playing JWP would be shooting ourselves in the foot for what? More possession? Someone who can score at least 80% of free kicks taken on goal? He’s never been a tackler…never be been a decisive provider of through balls or assists in general. If I remember correctly his corners were a pretty ineffective.

There was a season where he played in a more ACM role and managed to score a couple of goals, but I suspect those days have gone.

Minimal gains and a big drain on the salary budget. Not for me unless Spors really can’t find anyone better.

Of course it is a matter of opinion but he is just what we need. A high status individual in the dressing room, who is still 31, highly professional, a role model, who loves our club. When you have a manager who is just 32 you need powerful figures in the dressing room. 

The idea that he cannot score free kicks is absurd, you can still take free kicks when you are in your fifties, its the rest of your game that deteriorates. It is a gamble but my instinct says its significantly less of a gamble than bringing in somebody unproven from a European league who if they do prove themselves will just bugger off. The one thing JWP will do if he is a success is leave again!

Looking back at his time at Burnley it looks a mixed bag, some poor performances but He was one of Burnley's better players against Man City and Bournemouth, covering the most distance so fitness still there.

I would put that down to a deflated level of confidence and a lack of game time. Get his confidence up again at a club he feels at home with and the goals will start coming again particularly at this level.

Out of interest how important do you think dressing room morale is on team performance?

Wasnt sure what to make of JWP possibly returning.

Perhaps Walcott and more recently Romeu have left me scarred. But if we're replacing Charles with JWP (and Jander stays) and we're making a big profit then I'm happy with that. He's still a good player and has always been super fit.

We were close to the best team in the league from January onwards with Downes/Jander/Charles/Bragg in CM. We're replacing the player who didnt play that much (and I'm a big Charles fan) with a player with significant experience who will give everything for the club

I think Romeu and to some extent Walcott behind the scenes made a big difference around the club. I was though surprised how off the pace he was. JWP is 31 though so should have some more in the tank particularly as he has not played much recently!

Well he certainly won't improve dressing room morale if he comes here on big money and fails to contribute as much as team mates on far less.

Just thinking about the logistics of it, if jwp was to come in, couldn't we give him a reasonable signing bonus and the other give him lower wages so he isn't on something ridiculous and upset the rest of the dressing room? He's reportedly on £50k a week. Could we gove him a two year contract on £30k with a 2 million signing bonus and get him off the hammers for a few million?

JWP coming back would be good for the dressing room and bulls up the midfield, however we still need that physical presence in the centre of the pitch.

If he acts as the shithouse player he once was then no complaints from me.

I’m more concerned that we’re yet to shift on Sugawara, Brereton, Ramsdale, Downs, Bazunu etc.
